Russia and Ukraine

Russia half-assed the invasion from the get-go....a modern military blinds their enemy and gains air superiority right off the bat...Russia did neither of these and now they are in a real conundrum.

Putin has only a few options-pull out and concede (which I don't think his huge ego will allow) resort to low yield nukes or use biological/chemical weapons to defeat the Ukrainian forces...

I'm not sure which direction he will go but I hope he swallows his pride and concedes....
He has enough bombs to keep wearing them down.

Unless the Ukrainians can get the best of his ego and wear the Russians down first.

There is a lot of reports of poor Russian morale. And the Ukrainians are honing thier skills.

So it will be a slow brutal war. Putin can pour 100s of thousands of troops in if need be. He hasn't really seriously applied pressure yet. Lots of non nuclear options left.

I saw a piece about Ukraine discovering Russia has no means to stop TOW missiles. And they have been stockpiling a LOT of them at the front.

This could be in preparation for a big counter attack.

They have certainly done a good job at keeping Russia pretty miserable. It appears the majority of captured Russians have not had much to eat unless they kill and eat it on the run.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is the example of what not to do when invading a country...

We are months into this invasion and Russia has not only lost any momentum but are now fighting a war of attrition of which they are losing badly...

I truly think this has shown how wrong we’ve been on their abilities. Good God man Russia had like 100,000+ troops amassed on the border and then half heartedly invades? Go back to Desert Storm and Schwarzkopf. We had troops lined up and within a couple days thru a combination of air, armor and infantry took the whole country. Granted Iraq is different than Ukraine in ability but it still seems pathetic how Russia has done.

Putin senses weakness very well. And he is a pretty brilliant strategist. They walked right into Crimea. Not a shot was fired. He will have no problem taking Ukraine. We have shot our wad in Afghanistan. We are not in a good place to start another skirmish. He's no idiot.
Well that didnt work out the way he wanted it to..lol...not such a good strategist as once thought lol

His strategy hasn't changed. He is selling as much oil as he can pump. The Ruble is worth more now than it was before the war started. He is still popular with his people. The sanctions have hurt us and the European's economy more than his.

Biden is pouring trillions of $$ into Ukraine we don't have to spend.

I'd say Putin is doing a far better job at this so far than the U.S. is. I'm much more impressed with Ukraine than I am Russia in this. Until they run out of our $$.

NATO is dumping a bunch of money, equipment and training into fighting our proxy war...something which Putin didn't expect....his intelligence organizations probably didn't factor in western advanced weapons, intel gathering and tactical training into the mix when they planned the invasion....

I would have thought the units of Spetsnaz and Chechen fighters would have made a distinct difference on the battlefield but so far their impact seems to be minimal...

I am a bit worried that once it looks like he is at war with NATO he will look at nuclear options. I doubt it has crossed his mind to pull out, or admit being defeated. Instead draw them in and get support from his comrades. And escalate.

He has enough manpower equipment and money to grind Ukraine into dust for a decade if need be.

Meanwhile if he can get us to spend trillions, China will reward him.

I think he will be thinking long and hard before the nuclear solution has been reached...he has lots of biological, chemical nerve agents he hasn't used yet either.....hopefully he doesn't use these either...

Being who he is, retreat and compromise is not an option...something is going to heat up.

From a strategic point of view, the Russian invasion is on the ropes and is in jeopardy right now.

Had the pre-invasion prep been done properly Russia would have run over Ukraine.

Yes he does have non nuclear escalations.

I don't think he is on the ropes. He can throw another 100K troops and another 1000 tanks at Ukraine. He can gas Ukraine tomorrow if he were on the ropes.

Won’t be Putin taking it to the next level. It’ll be us in summer of 2024 with a false flag attack on nato troops to distract the American people from failure of the left to actually lead this country. An attack that kills a few dozen American/NATO troops in Poland will be the perfect reason for us to genuinely get involved. And since traditionally this country does not like to change administrations during wartime it’ll be one of their hopes of holding onto the White House.

I think the Russian invasion is in real trouble, Putin is reaching out to his allies for help..

When a country invades another and doesn't cut their supply/communication lines and gain total air superiority the invasion force will be facing an uphill struggle to succeed...

Throw in a bunch of high tech weaponry, advanced training and foreign military advisors and you have a recipe for real troubles for the invading army.

Interesting take. My take is Biden is throwing $$ at Ukraine to make the investigation in Hunter go away. Same for the Trump raid. We won't convict your boy if you don't convict mine.
