Seat Ideas

So Ive been kicking the idea around for better seating. Im not looking to lower the seatin the front like the brocks does. I am however sliding rearward on hard acceleration alot. I would love better comfor too. I look back at my old GSXR 1000 and notice the seat is slanted more than horizontal. I love the busa but damn I miss some of the goodness of my old liter bike.

May could hit up New Image (aka Lee) and see what he could come up with. Mine is chopped with the butt part left to hold you in the seat, but know you don't want lower front. Anything is possible and get a custom looking seat in the process

Seats are 100% a personal preference.
I tried 6 on my gen2.
I hate cut seats, as you can't move around at all, and you're just stuck in one spot, with your knees bent more.
I even use leather conditioner or armor-all on seats, as I like to be able to move or slide easily, and not to be stuck to it, needless to say I hate gripper seat covers too.
Under hard acceleration, I keep just enough grip on the bars, and the rest on the pegs, I have no problem with sliding backwards.
Otherwise I ride like a wet noodle, lol, give it just enough input to make the bike go where I want it to, but let it do what it wants getting there.
To each their own.
The best way to try seats is to see if someone with a different seat is within riding distance, meet, and swap seats for a ride.
I actually did that, bought 5 different gen2 seats, then met @mr8ball for a ride, tried his cut seat, loved it for about 2 minutes...and couldn't wait to give it back at the bottom of the mountain, lol.
Good luck.

I did not know this. Is the angle off to the sides too extreme?

No, you just can't slide back and forth, and being lower, your knees and hips are bent more.
As said though, personal preference.
It's cool to try the different seats if you can, if there's org members with them within riding distance.

Right, I am trying to understand the geometry and what trait of the cut seat prevents one from sliding...?

I very much like to move forward and aft on the VFR depending on braking. However, I am unsure if this whale of a busa cares where I move in this regard. :D

This was a quick sketch on how the cut seat prevents sliding. My body is pressed between the tank and the raised part of the seat. If i had a stock seat, i would be able to move further back and touch the hump .

Not sure if they are available for Gen 3 yet, but zero gravity had seats with some better grip than stock seats.

Thank you! I was thinking of the entire seat shaved without that raised back, and could not understand why that would be any different for moving around, which it would not be.

Id welcome this without cutting. Im ok with the seat now just need to not slide back as much under acceleration. Busa seat is way larger than a liter bike seat. Id be good if I could somehow angle it up in the back some to give it some rake as well. I am 235 lbs and I move easy when pinning the throttle wide open. My 1000 wasnt as bad due to the ergonomics of seating position. See photo for reference.

All you need to do is pull the cover staples with needle nose.
Use a marker on your stock seat foam, a cut the foam with an electric kitchen knife.
Staple the cover back on and done.

Id rather add than subtract or somehow reposition the seat higher in the rear. I rather miss the foward angle of attack

Just a few seats from good ole Ebay. They seem to have more colors combo than these three just not the silver and red i'm looking for but i emailed them.

You could still reach out to Lee at New Image Seats to see what he could do for you to reshape the seat the way you want. Im at 260 lbs and my seat definitely helps keeping me in place on spirited rides.

You can buy blocks of seat foam and larger cover material if needed.
You can spray glue on layers in shapes and curves, and the cover will hold it in place as well.
I have this block of Medium firmness, open-cell seat foam, it works very well for most seat applications, and cuts and shapes easily with an electric knife.
What you're asking for is not difficult to accomplish.
You know what fits You best, so it's worth the effort to customize them.
I highly recommend cutting a Saddlemam style groove up the center of any seat, it makes them dramatically more comfortable. And, you can put the foam you cut out back if you don't like it.
I'de see what I could get a used gen3 seat for and try it.

I like how you think, I like to try to do stuff myself, and in my mind I can see myself doing something like that, but at the end of the project, I can see a meme of my product with 2 pictures...

1st picture my expectation...
2nd picture my final product (all chopped off, glue running, cover un even, etc...)

Heres what I did. Not Perfect, but better than it started.

We have so much in common it is uncanny. Brothers from other mothers.

Just recently after making a vain attempt, vaporizing too much solder, and getting zero adhesion, I handed a project over to a...what are they called? Professional.
Yes, by the time I finish my project and send them to the professionals I end up spending more time and money, but somehow I have to give it a try, I have a DIY mentality but not Hands-On skills so much, I guess I will need more practicing, let's see what other project I will screw up next  :D
