Just wondering what you all thought about all this rukus about no prayers in school or no posting The Ten Commandments in federal buildings, etc...?

Been researching some and there is no such statement in the constitution about having to have seperation of church and state. In fact all the constitution says, (in the 1st amendment), about it is that the government can not dictate the establishing of a religion or the way people choose to worship in a religion.

You cant exactly have people believing in a higher being if you want a 'Big Brother' type government.

I'll be honest I am not nearly as concerned about the absebce of prayers as I am with the absence of the pledge of allegiance.

Its no myth.

Like everything in the constitution, it has to be interpeted.

Such as we have the right to bear arms. But not in schools, banks, concealed, etc..

Here's a quote from the website below that explains where the words separation of church and state come from, Thomas Jefferson;
"Jefferson's letter from which the phrase "separation of church and state" was taken affirmed first amendment rights. Jefferson wrote:

I contemplate with solemn reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State. (1)"

The website.

and another good saying ...

Broke my own rules about discussing religion. Self Edit.

.....endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Its not about churches or religions...its about the source of our inalienable rights. If you remove the creator than just who gets to "dispense" these rights?

Until churches start paying taxes they can stay the heck out of anything to do with the government and what goes on outside of their building.
By Church I am assuming you mean the members, because a Church is its congregation not an institution

. Therefore from you statement, you mean members of a Church should stay the heck out of anything ! INTERESTING

A church that is collecting money from its members is creating income.  If I am given an inheritance of money that someone else has already paid taxes on I am still taxed.  The government has no say in what goes on in a church.  A church or its teachings has no say in what goes on in the populations government.  Look at what the Taliban has done in Afganistan or even what the Catholic church did in Europe in the past to see why this should not happen.

I'm not trying to start an argument, or condemn anyone's views.  I respect all views on religion.  I was raised in a religious household, but have no room for organized religion in my life.

yep. keep government out of religion, NOT the other way around. Religion gets into people. Government does not get in to people. But PEOPLE get into government and will always bring thier religion with them. God is like air. You can waste time from your life trying to get religion out of government, but it won't happen. Go play frisbee instead and enjoy life

As voters, you are all welcome to change the laws about churches paying taxes or whatever. Good luck with that plank.
