Shaving Some Weight Off the 08

Start saving the money now and than in a few months it might be eaiser :) I have had these brand rims on 2 of my bikes, one was a 03 zzr1200 and one on my 05 Busa. Different styles but same company. Did some drag racing with both (zzr1200 not a drag bike for sure) easy to wheelie came down so hard one time (rookie) that a busted a fork seal and it start to leak. No wheel damage. Ran them for 3 years. Than got the 05 Busa and did not do the wheelie thing....well a couple of times the front end came up :) and 3 years with those rims they were perfect. In fact the wheel weights were about and 1inch long because of how well they were balanced. The Shop said they never seen wheels that balanced up so nice. 150mph plus and smooth as silk no shake or shimmy.
I am sure there is wheels better, lighter, etc but for the money this is the route I will go. Once I see how much I get back on the taxes :)

Some pictures of them on my 2 different bikes. Like the rules say...must have pictures.

Is it Carrozzeria wheels in the second pix?

are you keeping a real time total on weight loss? curious just how much you shave.. I have an easy 45lbs to shave off my bike (well off me)
I agree with you Mr Bogus. It is a hell of a lot better to loose excess body fat for many reasons than to try and pare weight off the Hayabusa. My formula is loose excess weight and then add power!

All wheels in the pictures are Carrozzeria. The small picture of rims on the right are for the 2008 Busa. I realize allot of money for just a few pounds but the cool factor is worth a lot plus I love custom rims :) just the wallet hates custom rims.

Any updates on the stock rear sets weights and savings? I'm mostly interested in the passenger supports/ pegs. ** THANKS in advance **

Don - beautiful 08 you have there! Any plans for Winter Mods?

The machine shop did not weight each piece just the total of all 4. Here is a camera phone picture (not great quality) and the parts are not finished yet these were ruff pictures but you get the idea of where it is going. I am in Cleveland till Sunday so hopefully Monday when I get back I will have some real pictures and weight reduction numbers hopefully.

The blue bike in the photo is my old 05 Busa, I have not posted pictures of my 08 yet because it is in pieces.

Thank You! It looks like they removed a bunch of meat from the rears...

Are you gonna tell us the idea for the new finish? It looks like it will not be chrome. Nice details on the silver and blue.

I'm wrestling with my choosen finish for my pass pegs and how much material I will be removing from them. (I'm adding some chrome so something else must go to compensate.)

WHAT are folk using for Bar Ends? I have delran ends on my 99 and looked at IntuRace.com today to see if they have them for the 08. They are not in their 08 catalog at this time. I'll call before Spring - depending on what others are using if light. I may be able to steal em off my old bird too. Thanks again vmaxbaby.

Hey Bruce,

Scott the machinest is taking as much as he can and still leave the strength structure alone. The picture I posted from his camera phone was a first run on his machine. I will post better pictures next week when I go to see him. I had 2 reasons for cutting the excess off. One of course because of the weight when I had all 4 pieces in my hand I thought to myself WOW could they be any heavier. Especially when you see how light the GSXR1000 pieces are :(. 2nd reason is just to make the bike more custom having them cut up a little. I will be sending them off to the Chrome shop putting chrome on. Chroming these parts will not weight that much. In fact I will have the difference before and after I get them back. Taking the factory exhaust off was the big weight reduction :) I have a Yoshimura Full Exhaust system that I am putting on with the bling tip so thinking the chrome pegs will be a nice touch. I bought a set of bar ends from a friend that are Chromed and half the weight of the factory ones and also bought polished rear spools. Have not come to terms with frame sliders, I hate to cut the fairing :(

I have every fairing off the bike right now and the shop it is at they are working on replacing some metal parts with aluminum parts. If the factory engineers won't have over engineered this bike with so much weight it would have been allot nicer and cheaper for me :) Could you imagine a Gen II busa that weighted 495lbs from the factory with fluids. The weight to HP ratio would be so much better than it is now that they could leave the engine alone for years before anyone would come close to it. I guess I want my cake and eat it to

The Gen I bikes had rear subframes made of aluminum (99 - ?) or steel (later years), and I remember that the aluminum ones were much lighter but prone to cracking. I removed my rear '08 subframe yesterday and the two major pieces and hardware weighed over 15 lbs! The engineers designed this thing for seriously large "hoochie mamma" passengers. I weigh 170 lbs and will never put a passenger on back, so I started to undo some of this over-engineering. Plus I have a stretched one piece tail section, so I needed to make some changes anyway. I've taken 6 lbs off the rear subframe assembly already, and I'm still going. Will post pictures very soon. Hope is to get my 08 under 490 lbs with 1/2 tank of gas in her.

Lets see your pic with the red lines drawn where you are going to trim.

(I need about 40 off myself.)

draco - let us know what is coming off please.

I'm buying a digital scale as something I have been wanting for a while with an old wheel fettish I have. I NEED to weigh a mich 190/55 vs a 190/50 to sort this weight diff for myself once and for all too.

And I have a new set of pipe brackets /pass pegs now headed my way to start some 'minimalistic' carving on. I guess winter can be a little fun when not riding - but it's sure costly.
