Shifter problems

I've got an air shifter set-up on my 07 that is mounted similar to the Lee's Performance--http://http://www.schnitzracingstore.com/catalogs/catalog.asp?prodid=2352369&showprevnext=1-- only that I made it myself. I'm using the ECU for a kill, with a kill time set @ 80ms on all 5 shifts. Starting at 145psi of air, it seems like my kill time is too short on the 1-2 shift. It will knock into neutral and not make 2nd gear. However, with less than 120 psi the bike will shift 2-3-4-5 no problem. I'm not sure yet if my overflow bottle is pressing against the ram in some funky fashion or not, but I made the same brackets for a friends 04 and with slightly less air pressure and the same kill time he has no problems. I think if my overflow is pushing against the ram, i should be able to heat it up with a heat gun and sort of "remold" it, no?

Here's a pic of my set-up, with the bottle out of the way...

how long is the stroke on the piston? It could be that it's just not pushing the shifter far enough. As an example if you were foot shifting from 1-2 you have to give it some good travel on the shift lever or it'll hop into neutral. You don't have to move the lever as far for the 2-6 shifts.

Mine is setup in a similar position as yours. I set it so there's more piston travel for the up shifts than the down shifts. In other words if your total piston travel is say 2.5 inches I would have mine set at say 35% out or .875 inches piston rod extension.

You may have to play around with this to get the piston not to stop you from manualy downshifting but still retain as much travel as possible for the upshifts.

The bottle may hit a little but since it's not hard mounted at the bottom it probably gets pushed out of the way. Move you shift lever up n down and see how/where it's hitting the bottle. You also could probably switch to the Gen 2 overflow tank (I'm thinking about doing this myself).

I haven't checked the throw in first gear, but when I was setting it up on the lift with the rear tire in the air it would rock the 1-2 shift no problem... I'm pretty sure it's the bottle binding up, but I'll definetly check the throw, since now that you mention it I did shorten the other bracket I made for the '04.

it may be that you're right at the cusp of 2nd vs neutral during that first hit. With the tire in the air you don't have the same kind of loads on the gears so it may be that the shifter has no problem jumping right to second with no load but under hard load it's just a tad short of a full shift.

You porbably just need to play around with it a bit more.

Now that you say that Commuta the throw issue has to be it. When bangin 2nd I can hear the dogs snick but not connecting. I was thinking kill time based on load and didn't consider throw based on load also. Thanks!!

Got it worked out over the weekend. Ended up just breaking loose the clevis locknut and backing the cylinder rod out of the clevis about half a turn. It's WAY too much of a P.I.T.A. to pull the left side fairing to rework my bracket. Judging from the way the trans sounded when I was hittin 1-2 I figured it would only be a few thousandths I was off, and I was right!
