Shinko tires for the Busa

The 003's were made for road racing so they handle great. Some dragracers found that they hooked up great and it kinda went crazy from there. I've found that the U-softs wear better than the standard 003 versions.
The 003 was a copy of somebody else's (Yosh I think) dimpled drag tire, never intended for road racing. The profile is almost flat, not rounded. The best one to get is a u-soft 190-50, it measures out at around 198 mm. Sits good and flat on a 6" wheel. The downside of the tire is that it's a lot heavier than a mickey, up side is it wears better on the street, and it's cheaper. I have never ran any shinko's besides the 003, but a lot of guys I ride with have complained about them not being stable at speed. Regular 003 is a harder compound, requires more heat to get sticky, and lasts longer than the u-soft.

Keep in mind the best insurance you can buy is where the rubber meets the road!

Thats what came on my busa and I thought they might be a cheaper tire... but they actually stick very well!!

I've got 003 ultra soft on now, I've run my best time with it (6.26/112mph) but I'm still coming un glued out of the hole. this bike is drag only so next tire will be a MT 3221 slick. If it hooks, look out ZX !

That's not what I read.

I just mounted the 009's. I have only put about 100 miles, so still to early to tell. Plan on keep everyone updated because you can't beat the price.

I was right. The 003 shinkos are an old Yokohama road race tire design.

I have ran my busa on the ultra soft as fast as it could go for 2-3 miles on a rear that wasnt even balanced...no shake or anything otherwise to make the trip scary....
:beerchug:

Same here. Have a little less than 100 miles on it. I think it's about broken in now... but I'd have to say it's night and day between my worn out BT56 w/1.5" flat spot down the middle.

Shinko bought the yokohama molds and manufactuiring tech when yoko got out of motorcycles....they are good tires, just an older design. some people would rather spend big $$ for tires that way better than thier riding abilities.....or would be embarrassed to have "cheap" tires....

i however care more about what works, i do not ride fast enough to need the latest gp tech tires...so why spend the money for something i can't use.

ps: high speed stability is compromised because of the low tire pressure used by drag racers.....i have had mine up to 145mph.

I am wicked excited to have found this topic...

I have been running the advaced 005 ever since my stock tires went bad... they are decent tires and they come at the right price.

I was looking into the 009 raven, but my problem is there are alot of twisties where I ride. Has anyone heard anything about the 009 ravens as far as handling?

i just bought the 05 hopefully they work as well as my 03 ultra softs.... but last a little longer...

They should definately last longer then the 003's, however i blew through the first set i had in about 3000 miles ( only in the rear). i just replaced the front at 9000 miles and the rear will be ready to go in about 1200 (guessing)...

The reviews that i have been reading about the ravens is that they last longer! however like i said... I ride in the twisties all day so a good handlling tire is important to me...

I run out at the 1/4 mile and they are great. I've burn't thru 4 rears and just putting on the 003 for the front. I'm hoping they corner better than the stocker. I've washed out the front end a few time with the stock Battleaxe in the twisties. And they arn't even all that bad in the rain with no thread for the run off.

ya know it just bugs me to think about taking a tire like that from 175 mph, slamming on the brakes and pitching in to a corner at 130 mph with my butt slung over the side of the bike and the pavement staring at me, wondering, Maybe I should have spent the other $30 the guy next to me did..

Got enough "nerve" issues doing this in the first place, I think I gotta stick with the Stones at $240 and not have nightmares about my second track day going terrible bad...

I suppose if all I did was the low/slow gig, or just straight line acceleration, I would think about cheaper tires but like Tuf said... best insurance you can buy is where the rubber meets the road.. (and he can sort of ride)
