Shinko tires for the Busa

ya know it just bugs me to think about taking a tire like that from 175 mph, slamming on the brakes and pitching in to a corner at 130 mph with my butt slung over the side of the bike and the pavement staring at me, wondering, Maybe I should have spent the other $30 the guy next to me did..

Got enough "nerve" issues doing this in the first place, I think I gotta stick with the Stones at $240 and not have nightmares about my second track day going terrible bad...

I suppose if all I did was the low/slow gig, or just straight line acceleration, I would think about cheaper tires but like Tuf said... best insurance you can buy is where the rubber meets the road.. (and he can sort of ride)

yeah, i can understand that....but these were the tires guys were racing on at one time....

maybe its different to me..because i started racing in the early 90's..

Thats why there are different types of tires. I for one will never see the top end of this machine and never hit a turn at 130 mph. I like the twistys like everyone else but I'm nowhere near the limits of my last set which were the Conti roadattacks. I need a tire that gets some mileage because 90% of my riding is to and from work. For someone who does track days this tire is probably not for them. I went out and pushed them alittle this weekend with no problems but my pushing them is like a casual ride for some.

I have the ultra softs and they are great unless you ride in the rain .

Thinking I will mount up my fast tires on my spare rims and put the long mileage rubber on my good wheels.. Kind of waiting to see what kind of abuse the street does to the BT002RS

+ 1,000,000. They are USELESS in the wet. U-softs are a great drag tire, cheaper and longer lasting than the M/T, although they are heavier. I have never heard anything good about any other tire shinko makes from the group of guys I ride with. Just my .02

Tire threads are not really about tires......

yea I can see that, more about riding styles and usage.. is kind of funny when someone goes "The greatest tire ever" and the thing is junk for anything other than a single purpose.. Most any tire is a compromise..

I am having fun learning about the "road course" tuning on these bikes right now.. at best, the busa is a capable machine but far from ideal..

Then a guy stretches the thing or lowers it and thinks he is really "carving" up the road on his shinko drag tire.. Then there is the guy with the ultra hard touring tire trying to go drag racing.. (at least that is exciting to watch while he skates across the track)

What I most like is that you can do either with the bike with little more than a tire change and a couple tweaks on the chassi..

btw

softer tires = better grip shorter wear life
harder tire = less grip better wear life

even the two compound tires aren't good drag strip tires...

except for this side wall DROP... can't really turn with that kind of drop...

Took the words right out of my mouth!! I purchased a set of the Shinko Ravens rear 200/50-17 and I learned first hand what those flat cornered edges can do to a man..

Three months ago I was riding around with my wife on the back of our ZX7R it was a sunny florida day very dry and hot. The light had turned green and we proceeded to turn left at about 20mph when the bike suddenly low sided on the leftside in the middle of the turn. Three months of healing from the cuts to the bone on my knee and the quarter size meat chunk to the bone from the shift lever I know realize that when I was making the turn I hit the side wall of the tire where it just drops off and nothing is left the bike had no more traction and we went down.

Save your self the trouble get a better made tire like the Bore for an extra $20.00

Now I'm on 009. 190 rear. Much better grip than bt21. I know I'm comparing apple and orange. Bt 21 lasts 6000 miles and some, if shinko 009 last 3000 or more, I'm sold. We shall see and I'll report back when time comes.

I'm very happy with my non-OEM BT-016 120/70/17 front, 150/60/17 rear on my Husqvarna 510smr. I'm running Pirelli Supercorsa Pro race SC1 front, SC2 rear, with a 190/55 out back on my Hayabusa. Cuts in real quick which is nice but the tires cool too fast. It's not a good street tire at all cause they never get hot enough. I'll be putting a set of 16's on it when the corsas are done.

The 16's are incredible street tires and are only a few bucks more than the Shinkos so I don't see the point in getting what I consider an inferior tire.
