Should guns be banned?

It is one of those things that makes a bad person wonder:

Do I rob/rape/assault the person who:

a - does not have a gun
b - might have a gun
c - defintely has a gun

I believe it is because 20 something white kids are spoiled brats who feel entitled and when the reality of life smacks them in the face they don't know how to handle it and snap. Middle aged black folks in this country for the majority of them are already used to hardship and overcoming or dealing with it. These white kids doing this have no idea or ability to deal with reality so they detach from it and commit these things. Yes you're right no black man I know of has shot thirty people.
Again I say the dr patient privilege of confidentiality should not apply to gun sales. A history of mental instability should be known to law enforcement when applications are made for weapons purchases.

When I was growing up I never saw previews to R rated movies. They just weren't shown until a time when the kids were supposed to be asleep. Now you can wake up 6am Sunday morning and watch csi reruns with them looking over cut up bodies or you have 'walking dead' marathons with zombies eating guts right out of bodies? You have kids that have easy access to Call of Duty and play it for hours upon hours. Total desensitization to violence is what has happened. Lets change that before we ban guns.
 
Not a white elephant at all Arch , I alluded to it earlier. To be more definitive, they are white and middle/upper middle class, the spawn of working mothers and broken families. I noticed that too.

Who said never let a crisis go to waste????? Watch these bastards in DC try to make political points on this, its already started with the Obama new conference, him doing the Clinton tear, lip biting, choke up schtick. I hope these people reflect o what they are trying to do and don't over reach on their zeal to further limit our rights and trample the Constitution.. I have guns as it is my right to have them, and for all the reasons our founders intended when they put the 2nd amendment in place.


And another thing, does any one else find it sad where all our schools have lock down procedures, I hate that prison term being used in schools, sad commentary on our country.

However, I've seen enough negligent discharges to know that there is a lot of improper firearm handling all over. I was almost shot by a marine clearing his weapon, and another who didn't know not to use 550 cord as a replacement part on his SAW :banghead: Crimes have been stopped by legally armed citizens, the stories usually don't make it past local papers though (liberal media doesn't like actual good endings, no ratings in that). As for being assaulted as part of a large crowd: aside from protecting those not in a capacity to defend themselves, I would otherwise only defend friends and family. Anyone else (again, able bodied, sound mind etc.) has the same ability and choice to train and carry a weapon for defense; I'm not there to save them, they have to do it themself. I typed this in spurts between tasks I'm doing at the moment, hope it makes sense :laugh:
 
I'll be honest, I don't know what the right thing to do is. I hear that countries without guns don't have the voilence we have. Then I think so do we disarm unilaterally and let the criminals take advantage of the 10-40 minutes it takes the cops to get to the scene? I see 20 little kids get killed and think nothing is worth that but then i think about the crazy people out there (many are politicians) who would love to disarm the population. I think the race issue relative to guns has a lot to do with what side of gun control people come down on too. Too many Black youths get killed by guns, very few of them are killed by white people. Very few white people are killed by black people. Blacks see gun control as necessary to save a generation of young people. Whites see gun control (or a lack of it) as necessary to protect themselves from a society gone increasing mad. How do you allow people to have guns and weed out the unstable people (maybe they aren't unstable when they buy the gun)? What is too crazy to have a gun? A perfectly sane person on drugs or alcohol is far more dangerous that many people with mental health issues. Certainly there is no way to judge who is dangerous on an entire population. That would take years and cost a fortune.

I think this is a very very tough riddle.
 
I see a race aspect to gun control too Arch but its one of city politicians disarming the good black people of our cities because they don't trust them with the freedoms most of the rest of the country has. On the mental heath issue, who do you get to judge who is mentally fit, our politicians? Our doctors?, remember the Joker was being treated by mental health pros, what happened there, did they trigger his rampage? Is it the video games these spawn grow up playing? I really think this has a lot to do with the break down of the traditional family unit (I am not a bible thumper but am a believer). I really think the families of these whakkos need to be publicly shamed, they should have intervened, I truly think this is the only way to address the future mass murder perpetrators. Definitely have a conundrum on our hands here.
 
This would be a tough position to be in, as far as deciding who would be in charge of deciding who is or is not mentally fit as far as weapons.

I can't imagine there would be many people signing up to make that decision.

"Sir, you're not stable enough to own a gun. Now go back out into the world, and please don't kill me in the parking lot after work."

So it seems the mother was a 'prepper' and owned the guns because she wanted to be able to defend her family if things got bad.

But there are some people who think they are being good parents and still this stuff happens. Do you remember how much stuff you hid from your parents? I was a pretty good kid but there are some things that would have shocked my parents and they were very attentive to my sister and I. I see your point and I agree but I'm not ready to throw all parents under the bus in all these cases. I believe there are people who walk into this world rotten to the core.
 
I'm not trying to be funy about a bad thing like this but this dude is the guy I would pick out of a line up to do something like this..........

Ditto on this Arch,

I am glad my kids are grown, but I worry about my grandson. Parenting today takes a different mind set, IMO. If you take your child to the proverbial "woodpile", the parent is in trouble. If you don't your in trouble. And when they get 17-18 years of age you are really limited as to what you can do. I was blessed and lucky with my kids. But I chose the "woodpile" when it was necessary, and I also taught them how to say a prayer. And to this day, I can tell them they are living proof that prayers do work.
 
I just really wish people would stop trying to avert the issue by citing random instances about bombs and what they seen on last weeks episode of Myth Busters. Despite what you seen on TV it is not that simple nor easy to execute. How many of you have made bombs?? How many can attest to how simple it is to plot gather materials then build 1 all while you are in a psychotic rage? How easy is it for somebody to flip out and go to your closet and grab a gun point and shoot?
