Skin Color under the Helmet

Let's not mistake these two words "prejudice" & "racist". They are very different.

Prejudice means to pre-judge, based on a variety of visual or auditory attributes. I'm guilty of "prejudice" towards any people, but it's hard not looking at someone and kind of predicting their personality.

Racism is outright hate/dislike for someone specifically because of the color of their skin or culture. It doesn't matter to a racist whether I'm an educated African American male treating their mother who recently had a stroke. All that matters is I'm black, while my white counterpart may have cheated through school and doesn't know the patient's anatomy from his own LOL. My point is some patients are completely uncomfortable with my touching them because of my heritage. Others prejudge me (believe me I can tell), but after a brief conversation I usually get them laughing and they're puddy in my hands then

Anyway just wanted to clarify. I see where this thread is headed.

Last time I checked, white is still a color.

True brother, but had it not been for racism there would have been no need for the NAACP. The "colored" comes from the term used then to describe black americans.

racism is also treating races differently. Maybe not was extreme as hate but differently.

I sincerely hear your explanation. This isn't the 50's or 1800's anymore. I personally owe another race nothing for my great grandfather's actions. Last I checked most statues of liabilities die after 10 years or less.

yeah man and so is the KKK. Still doesn't make it right and I have a real problem with my tax money being used and/or spent on allowing such rallies etc to occur. And we won't even begin to discuss hidden or political donations to the NAACP. We are a nation as a whole. My nation's cash should ONLY be spent on orginations that equally allow all citizens.

And you think all other organizations "equally allow all citizens"

In that same since YES I SEE RACISM EVERY DAY when lil ole ladies grap their purses or lock their doors when I walk by LOL (not actually funny that's sarcasm).  YES RACISM exists when I have to prove myself day in and day out that I earned my right in a profession where black males make up <1%.  YES  I SEE RACISM everyday when I get a second look because I'm riding through a predominately white neighborhood.

Do I let it get to me, sometimes but I get over it quickly because it's their ignorance that will cause them to miss opportunities to meet some awesome men & women of color.  

I'm concerned for them though, because when Christ returns he won't have a colored line and a white line.

I know, we won't give ya our jobs but hey TAKE OUR WOMEN. Something just ain't adding up when I go to a club and see 20 white girls, 18 of which are with black guys.

My only comment is that this shouldnt be a surprise to anyone unless you have been living in a cave. Although things have gotten a lot better in some instances, there are others that are even worse. just one mans opinion

I'm not touching the racists part of this thread, that said;

1)"Some buisnesses close"  I lived in Daytona, and witnessed how BCR(Black College Reunion) is more destructive to hotels than spring break(the next worse), Rolex race week, Daytona 500 week, Turkey rod run, Pepsi 400 race week, bike week, Biketoberfest, and a couple other special events.  Its about hotels/restrauants making a profit.  If the owner of a hotel wants to close it so it doesn't get damaged(as they have in the past), its his/her right!  They're not closing it because of race, they're closing it because of money.  If they closed it to only blacks, then they would be racist.  Since they're closing it completely(to everyone), they're closing it to all.  Of course there are always a few racist hotel/restraunt owners, you can't get around that(human nature).

2)"more police"  If events have gotten out of hand in the past and the police do not prepare for it the next year, who do you think is going to get the blame??  If the police let people hurt themselves or others, the police department gets sued.  If the police department tightens up on an event know to cause harm to people or property, then they're racists.  Not really fair is it??  Of course there are always a few in the police departent that are racists, you can't get around that(human nature).

3. The press.  News articles are almost always sensationalized.  The press pushes the public's buttons to make money.  Notice the only waitress that was quoted, had a very provactive statement that I'm POSITIVE does not reflect what other people think.  I'm sure there are people who could care less about Black Bike week that live there.  And granted sometimes the press reports objectively.

Just don't be so quick to assume its only racism.  Sometimes there are reasonable factors.  Money, liability, and the sensationalizing press all very reasonable to me.

They trashed the place worse than the morons of spring breakers(mtv types). Nothing but want and destruction why bother opening up, save whats left of your business and all. Anyone here in the same boat would not open either. Why would you want to open up to a bunch of detructive people, Thats why daytona gave up on promoting spring break. Not worth it and do not blame them either. these are college people Hmmmmm wonder if people acted like that in their parents home business ect... they probably would not care either thats probably how they act all the time. And the ones who are really down to relax and unwind get labeled. It;s the bad apple syndrom.

Have you spoken with every business owner as to why they're work schedule fluctates b/t weekends in late May? Did they sustain heavy damage during "Black Bike Week" maybe likewise I can't ask them do you close because a predominate number of biker in attendance during Memorial Day Weekend will be of color and you don't want to serve them?

Since neither of us can ask this question to every restaraunt owner we'll never truely know. We'll just be left with our own opinions and presumptions which ultimately is lack of communication with ultimately leads to alot of what we're seeing now.

Who said you owe anyone anything. This country owe me and every citizen the same rights and respect, but do we get it (&*% NO!!! I don't want anything handed to me though, I'll do what I've always done work towards it and TAKE it and prove society WRONG!!!!

Really??, then explain special minority scholarships and grants provided by the government. Or how about specialized minority based student loans? I bet a KKK scholarship for white students wouldn't be allowed in a state funded school because that would be "racist" and "discriminatory" and there is absolutly no difference. How about we just do away with Affirmative action, race percentages and federal and state funded special interest groups and see how life goes on.

You really think that? You think being white and dressing in biker gear is the same as being black dressed in jeans (that don't ride up my rear end) and boots.

Our history has never pointed to harley riders being beaten, killed and discriminated against.

You're exactly right, but I hate using "black" or "white" because I'm brown playa (caramel brown to be exact LOL).

I know what you mean I just hate labeling by color. There are many shades of all colors.

The only reason there is anything set aside for minorities is because majorities (historically speaking right) would allow minorities ANYTHING. Duh, don't play dumb you know the history of this country and why there are the organizations that exist today.

Yes some minorities piggy back and play the race card. I hate that, I feel like if you earned it you should be entitled to it. If you're the best for the job, you should get it. Again the only reason quotas were developed was because some companies wouldn't hire any minorities. Again it came about to protect, otherwise many current opportunities would not exist!
