So I got 86’ed from a barber shop this weekend

The way the NAACP tells it, it's all one sided and they are the sole poor victims of racism (and should be compensated). But it works both ways. I'd write a letter to the editor of the local paper with my story, and publicly embarrass the man. But I wouldn't go hire a lawyer, sue, and stage a huge protest like the NAACP would do if the position were reversed (I can hear Al Sharpton whining now).

I always thought Houston was the armpit of Texas. I grew up in a town between Dallas and Ft. Worth and the tension between the white and black community is dumbfounding. I don't get it nor do I understand why it is that way. It's been a long time since I've lived there but I can see things haven't changed much.....sorry.

I was worried that when I moved to Alabama it would be worse but to my surprise and relief it wasn't. The people here blend much better, in my area at least, which makes for a great community.

welcome to the world of reverse descrimination.. dont pay to be white these days.....get used to it . its only going to get worse

Well first, let me say cutting all hair isn't the same.. But none the less, that barber was a piece of ****. Sorry you had this experience.

For those that thing racism is dead live very blindly. Period. Anyone that don't think blacks are just as racist towards the white as whites are to black are equally blind. It's not all ignorance, because a lot of it is just stupidity. You can fix ignorance. Being that it's a learned behavior, you'll never kill it off no matter how many funerals there are. And for the INGNORANCE of thinking just because Obama is in office that blacks are showing their arses are just as hateful as the racist they speak on.

I hate to say it does show it's ugly head here in Houston and surrounding area bro. For the most part you won't see it's ugly face in just day to day operation. In that said and done, make sure you learn the areas because as you learn the area, you'll see areas not best 'suited' for your presence and then places it won't matter. Hit me up and we'll do some ridding soon.

Very uncool and unfortunate you had to deal with that situation. It just goes to show that anyone can be a jack@$$ and ignorance has no limits or boundaries. A true example of how a biased person having power or authority (regardless of implied importance) in a situation can negatively affect an outcome.

Im looking forward to doing some riding.

This topic has so far been respectful, I just wanted to pop in and say that I hope that should this thread continue, it maintains the respect we all seek to achieve.

Believe or not, there was (and still is depending upon how reluctant you are believing that discrimination does still exist) a purpose for the existence of the NAACP. As is the case with many things in our society, a few bad apples have spoiled the bunch, thus allowing those who've never had the need for it or experienced discrimination in the slightest to mock it and question it's need and application. I'll agree with you in that Sharpton and Jackson have sullied the reputation of the NAACP, no doubt, and I highly doubt that in your mind, there's anything that can be done to salvage or grasp the fact that such and organization is necessary. But to say that discrimation doesn't occur to minorities, simply because they're minorities is being very naive. And I'm not talking about on a haircut-scale either, but rather life-impacting things, like employment. I can easily count 4 times (since 2000) when I've been turned away from a job that I've been overly qualified for and had more experience than the next candidate but flat out told I wasn't getting the job because it would make some "uncomfortable".
I understand what you're going for, but your mocking only seems to show your lack of experience with discriminatory situations. Once again, I too detest some of the actions of those you've referenced...just for the record.

I almost didn't post anything about it for fear of it going very badly, but Im glad to see that this is a topic we can openly discuss without the name calling.

Almighty God loves a white man and a black man in exactly the same amounts, he created both.

When you come across this sort of thing ya just got to do as the good book tells you, love them and forgive them.

Nobody said it was gonna be easy.

Best regards Stretch.

I was pretty pissed off on Saturday but Im good now. I hold no ill regard towards the man, I feel sorry that he feels that type of attitude is necessary. You are either raised to hate or someone has pushed you into it, Im not sure which is true for him but he definitely has some hate in him. Oh well, to each his own. This was small scale and I have been subject to much worse when I life in Washington DC. It just rubbed me the wrong way because it had been a while since I had to deal with it. I’ve done my share of name calling so I’m not the person to judge him.

Me thinks you would not have liked the haircut.

Also check the laws, some times it is only discrimination or a hate crime if the "victim " is a minority in that area. Not that I am racist but sometimes the court system gets a little lopsided from time to time. Then cooler less sensational heads prevail and the views swing the other way or at least toward the middle.

As long as the elderly people keep it going it will never stop. Kids are not born that way they are taught to be that way and by seeing and hearing things like this it will never change. Congrats to you for being the better man. I am glad the two ladies walked out with their kids also. If that happens enough maybe he will close up shop. I hate to see anyone loose their job but in this case I will put the blame on him. Idiot! I like the idea someone else said, Call and complain  even if he is the owner he will get the message.
