Hayabusa used to wear the crown. Held it for many, many years. But now, the crown has been passed down to other faster, lighter, newer bikes as is properly done in a kingdom... giving way to new breeds, new ways, and such.

So, who is wearing the crown today? I know the crown gets passed around with each new release year.... first the Ninja 1400, then the GIX1000, then Honda... who has it today?

Lets not count the over seas one offs like Harley Agusta's 314 and such since you can not run down the street and buy one

Does one bike hold the crown or is it split for strip time and top speed?

The 09 vmax is claiming the crown right now for "quickest"

fastest is just a moot point.. trying to find the article but they say 210hp out of the box with a full touring model available..

fast isnt always pretty though, something the Busa has over all of them and how many people will actually even sniff the top end speed

there are just to many crowns... highest factory hp, most usable torque, lowest lap times, fastest speed/top speed, quickest in the 1/4 mile, etc

you can buy a street-legal MotoGP Ducati Desmosedici RR replica nowadays for only $80,000. The Desmo comes with a race ECU and supposedly puts down over 200rwhp. I don't know if it's top speed restricted to 300 km/h. Even if it is, it's gotta be one of the fastest in stock/factory trim.

The MV Agustas aren't too shabby either.

+1
various bikes from all different manufacturers own the above titles, almost making it a moot point.

Read an article about the 'Max a month or so ago. They couldn't even break into the high 9s for the quarter and top speed is something less than 160MPH. So, I would think the Gen II busa is still the king, as of right now. But, who knows what will happen when testors finally get their hands on the new 09 GSXR1000 in March!?

I'll go out on a limb and say the 09 GSXR1000 or Yamaha R1. Both are substantially revised and the Suzuki in particular lost a lot of weight!

+1 on the Vmax, they couldn't get it into the 9's and top speed is way down compared to ALL of the sport bikes :moon:

Well if we're talking crowns then its only appropriate to give it to a king... the BKing:whistle:

But to seriously answer your question, I'd say the 09 GSXR 1000, if its like its predecessors from 03-08 will still remain on top of many of the categories above.

VMAX CAN'T possibly have TOP SPEED on it's side. I feel the basic speed crown is quickest and highest top speed - the two big ones the Busa owned. My money is on the liters also. With them being way lighter than the Bus or ZX, they have to be quicker, and if they can sniff 186mph... well there ya go. I thought it might be the GSXR1K also, but have not really kept up. Isn't the ZX10 always right there also?

Well if these new bikes are restricted to 186mph and the original BUSA had a true top speed of 192+mph would'nt that still make it the fastest from factory? Not the quickest but fastest on top end, this is assuming we are talking about factory produced bikes. Now I have heard the $80,000 Ducati and the Mv Agusta have gone 195mph factory. Of course this is before TRE or other mods, I might be misinformed.

For out and out top speed the gen 2 busa I beleve will still get the job done, but the 14 is just a tick behind, I mean they will both run to 186+ but the busa does it faster the gixr and the 08 cbr are really strong, but with the 1000s the ZX-10 kicks ass in fact from what I understand if the new busa even sneezes the ZX will get by him:whistle:

V Max is limited at 138 mph, the low 10's were the best they could do with a pro rider. It's a gas hog, 107 miles to a tank of gas and weighs 100 pounds more than a B King. It will go faster in 4th than in 5th.

yep i saw the same article and the max isn`t even faster than the b-king in the 1/4 and i think the top speed was limited to 138mph or something in that area .. i know the zx-10 is fast but who knows?? i like my busa.

Not sure that it matters. A rider like Mladin could probably ride a wooden bicycle and still whip up on the average rider, regardless of what their riding.

matters to me. speed is strait line. and the rush of that strait line is awesome. Mladin turning is very different, and there is not a bike that "turns faster", just a skilled rider that does. I take my Busa to many race tracks and that is a blast, but what I bought into is pinning the throttle, kicking thru gears and going faster than just about anything else available for less than $15k. I doubt buying a new/faster bike is REALLY noticeably faster [seriously doubt it], but I'm just wondering what has finally stolen it's speed crown. maybe nothing with the new model. and the liters are still very promising
