Spark Plug threads broke off clean.

I don't know what spark plugs are made of but you might need to run a small magnet down in the cylinder afterwards to extract any trash from the extraction.

Put some grease on the screw extractor to catch the metals chips and keep them from falling into the cylinder.

Thank you sir, i was gonna suggest getting Lurch or Yamahor to turn the bike upside down and shake it out as an alternative

If someone had NOT put Loctite on the plugs...you can sometimes use a slotted screw driver and wedge it into the broken piece and just unscrew it.

Sorry that this happened Russ...sometimes things just break...and sometimes WE just fugg things up.

Believe me...I have been wrenching for 35+ years for a living and on my own stuff. I have broken plenty of things, or had to repair some weird chit...this one is no big deal. Just that its your's so don't sweat the small chit!

Yeahh see the chips is what im worried about.... Thats almost why I would rather just take it to a shop... I guess I can try to by some extractors next weekend when i get back from... and do the grease thing mentioned above... On another thread PB blaster was mentioned. Should I use some of that? Its petroleum based so it shouldnt hurt anything if it gets in the cylinder right? Im asking because I dont know and just need input...

And worse case scenario the extractor breaks off in the threads and I have to take it into a shop anyway....

And it was just a dab of loctite but I guess that was wrong and no more of that  This was the first time i had ever done that

I didn`t post much for last couple of years but I have to tell you this..

It`s 15 seconds DIY job.

All you need is triangular file, just like this one.

drive it slightly into broken tube and unscrew. I did that a few times for very strong friends of mine.

File is long enough and bites into mild steel nicely without any shavings to drop inside of the cylinder.

This is the best and cheapest advice that I have seen posted. Especially since this is probably do at the shop. This is how I have done on all the vehicles that this has happened to. ALWAYS put anti seize on the plug threads, especially when going into an aluminum head.

Why is there blue loc-tite on the sparkplug threads??I have these nice extractors that are almost square and they work awesome. You tap the extractor in and turn. as it turns it locks into the threaded piece and it should turn out fairly easy. These arent tapered threads like a pipe thread so it should be easy.

Hey Vic,

Welcome back!

He put some Loctite on the plug threads...so it might be stuck.

I think he needs to use a easy out, but you are right it is a simple job...kinda scary too for someone that has never done it though.

It could be scary, I agree..

He got nothing to lose ( except that broken tube). this technique will not make it worse, it`s works or it doesn`t. If not he can tow it to the shop and maybe his mechanic will be careful not to drop any steel shavings inside.

Oh and in the past repairing stripped spark plug threads i`ve lucked out by having that piston in the cylinder being worked on up intake valve closed exhaust valve open and blow any chips out the exhaust port with air.

a vacuum works really good at getting the little shavings out as well. a drop of loctite shouldnt be too big a deal russ.....i wouldnt use it again though. like others stated little antisieze and call her good.

That sucks man.. hope you get it out.. but like some of the other guys have said.. LocTite on your sparkplugs is about the worst idea ever.. antiseze is what you needed..

If i where closer, i could help. but sorry!

Why and where, did you come up with the idea for lock tight on the plugs?

Blue Loctite? I still don't get that one. I use never seize lube on all my plugs. I WANT them to come out.

Russ I can't believe your in the military and supposed to be protecting us :poke:

Hope it works out.

Hey I never said I knew everything. In my mind I was thinking yeah you put loctite on alot of bolts so spark plugs wouldve seemed ok to put it on. I mean if you honestly dont know better it seems like a good thing to do

The loctite is not relative to my problem at all just so everyone knows

I had a dream last night I took it to a shop and the guy had it pulled out in about 30 second
