Spark Plug threads broke off clean.

Jeez I wonder if i have gotten flamed enough for the loctite

I have decided I am going to get a set of Irwin cobalt extractors and try it myself. Worse case scenario it doesnt work then i take it to a shop to get bent over....

Easy out will do it !

Russell...just get a screw extractor (easy out) and remove the broken piece.

And DO NOT EVER USE Loctite on SPARK PLUGS!!!

Just a dab of anti seize on the threads is all you should ever use.

Ok if I use an extractor I am going to need an extension to go down into the plug socket... I dont see any extensions for them? And the extractors all have square ends

Russ I can't believe you used Loctite!

Uranidiot!

Just one more for you if there weren't already enough

Look at the bright side. At least you didnt use red Loctite :)

I had this happen to me with my Ford Expedition, took 2 weeks in the shop for them to get the plugs out.

The dreaded 5.4L spark plug problem... Ford makes a kit to fix these now, and its like a 5 minute job..

Now, Russell, what the heck? :banghead::banghead:

This is why I don't wrench on my own stuff. :rulez:

I didnt even see that one on the irwin site! that will make it very easy to use extenders  Thanks!

Dude i swear I did not overtighten it. I know I could be just an idiot trying to cover my own mistake by lying but I am seriously not lol. I had my torque wrench set on 5 (five, cinco) foot lbs and it broke the thing. And these Ngk iridiums are only a year old. replaced them last april. I about cried when it broke off when I pulled plug and found the threads broke off in the head. As for the loctite yeah apparrantly I am a retard for that. In my lack of knowledge it made sense that it would be okay to use a dab on them. Guess I need to get the opposite! However the loctite is not relevant to the problem at hand. Just something Im getting flamed for

Check out a hardware store of sears...eye an extractor up with the plug diameter...where it will bite into some metal. The vacuum is a great idea to get the chips that the grease does not collect. Getting to it is a pain...most of the easy outs have a square end...meant to be help by a tap handle...but you can fit it into a 1/4" drive socket...just find the one that fits and use an extension to get down into the hole. Which cyl is it...not that it really matters but is it on the outside?

Good luck getting it back on the road!

Too bad your not closer, i have a better kit than that one!

Its #4 so on the outside :-(. Vaccum? I dont think I can get a skinny enough vaccuum in there? I'll see i the thread material can be grabbed by a magnet so I can get a super strong magnet down in there and grab any stuff that may fall... This is scaring the crap out of me

Yeah :-(

Hey I never said I knew everything. In my mind I was thinking yeah you put loctite on alot of bolts so spark plugs wouldve seemed ok to put it on. I mean if you honestly dont know better it seems like a good thing to do

The loctite is not relative to my problem at all just so everyone knows

I had a dream last night I took it to a shop and the guy had it pulled out in about 30 second

Talk abut a wet dream:rofl:

Seriously, I think it will work out for you, and I hope it does:thumbsup:

+1 on the grease. Use something heavy and nice and sticky. Before anyone came out with a kit for the fords, I had welded socket extensions onto an extractor and thread chaser and it worked pretty well. If you can manage to get a touch of heat on it (not sure if this is possible) the locktite will free right up if it's a problem

Yeah :-(

A shop vac with a long straw, or a piece of tubing taped to the nozzle works for getting into the cylinder after you get the stuck part of the plug out.

Ok enough with the vacuum, there shouldn't be any chips that will fall in, you are not drilling a hole!
Man some times these threads go on and on, like a bunch of olde lady's!

I bought that set you recommended. Hopefully itl be here beginning of next week... I bought the 1/8 to 9/16 set. I didnt figure i would ever need up to a 7/8 inch extractor...
