Stock Busa goes 196MPH

SuperBike mag tested three bikes to see how they go one and two up. The Busa went 196 Solo (fastest stock speed ever for the mag) and 177 two up (Current British two up record on a stock bike is 171) The pictures of the pillion's dragging their knee on the track made me laugh!

Yes - the 00' Busa is undefeated in 10 top speed head to head tests this years vs. the ZX-12 and this 196 mph run was the highest speed of the year.

The same mag only got 186 out of a Busa last time in the head to head against the 12 (188) but there was a headwind - even so I'd expect the Busa to comfortably beat the 12 into the wind. They ran the original Busa without the rear hump - could be significant.

The 196MPH run was with a slight tail wind (2 mile strip)

DangerMouse - When Superbike performed the last test [June 2000] the Busa was a used customer demo model [1999 red/black] with 4000 miles on it. Sept 2000 test at 196 mph was a new 00' blue/silver.

I noticed that the Superbike Test was without the speed hump which seems to reduce top speed about 5mph so who knows she could have hit 200mph like Bike mag.

Hey Yanky boys.

You might be a bunch of jammie so and so's but i can tell you UK2000 busas are(as are zx12r) restricted to 186. Just keep feeding us your times and remember, The population of the UK are just the unlucky few who couldnt make it across to your golden sands. Pity us for we are weak! I am envious. Strange how Japan makes the best bikes in the world tho'...(and you lot make the worst)

Oh behave its just like the alamo all over again. You all know i was talking about the Indian, you little teases!

Dont you just hate it when you get drunk and start pressing random buttons?

Mr Lucky you are talking bollocks.

Manufacturers hastily put together propositions to volentarily restrict bikes from 2001 onwards (after the Dutch Government got hot under the collar about the (alledged) speed of the new ZX12 and proposed legislation.)

Busa's and ZX12s were already rolling off the prodution line - how long do you think it takes to develop this software?

Speak to any shop that runs a dyno and ask them to supply any evidence that a Busa or ZX12 is restricted - you'll get none.

Please don't tell me you actually believe the **** MCN post.

Before the ZX12 arrived I confidently predicted the Busa would be faster, MCN just added a few MPH to the Busa's speed *expecting* the ZX12 to be faster.
Why do you think the 12 was delayed by almost a year? The Busa had it whipped before the 12 left the drawing board.

If the ZX12 was being produced under the knowledge that speed restrictions were about to be brought in then Kawasaki wouldn't have bothered - why go to all the extreames of comprmising the structual ridgeidity (weird frame) and Centre of Gravity (under seat tank upping seat height) if top speed wasn't your ultimate goal - after all a conventional motorcycle could easily make 186 MPH without resorting to the tricks Kawasaki employed. (a larger engined ZX9 will easily make 186MPH)

Kawasaki ****ed up and MCN tried to cover their arses for all the hype they'd fed us - live with it.

I cant live with it d>mouse I just cant. Its true what you say I just cant cope, I believe everything I read. Is there no hope for me? am i destined to be a sun reader for ever? Well anyhoo thanks for putting me straight. Guess you cant believe everything mcn print. What do you think is a safe average for top end of a standard 'busa D>mouse. Ive seen so much in press i dont now whats what re top end? what do you think. I suppose when you see so much variation on top end it is hard to peg it.

And please dont tell me im talking bollocks...I know that already :)

Lucky, most stock Busa's do low 190s, ZX12s high 180s. There's not much in it but the Busa gets the cigar.

Conditions are more to do with the varying top speed of each bikes rather than the differences in the bikes themselves.

I remember a car mag getting crap Figures out of a 355 (after a bottom of the range TVR whupped it) Ferrari complained that "they are on the wrong kind of tarmac!" sniff sbiff, horse? sniff sniff Bull?

The Sun's got it's good points (two to be precise!) :)
