Suzuki Corporate and the 08 RECALL

IMO, this is simply not the huge screaming deal the angst in this thread suggests.

The fix is pretty damn simple: you just loosen your $hit so it's not so tight!

Remove the lower dash piece, and loosen the re-usable zip-tie that was tighten to 103 ft-lbs on the assembly line. Then ride and be at peace with yourself until you get the word to visit your dealer.

Here is the zip-tie in question... red arrow points to zip-tie adjustment tab:

I agree with that sentiment, but (always one of those...) I haven't seen anything in writing from Suzuki on official paper eluding to what exactly the problem truly is Or what the symptoms are...
So, based on that I can't just wash this off my mind as an oh well... keep riding and lets just see what happens. On the other hand I'm not parking the bike either! Just being a lot more in tune to my bike than normal!

I figured if a guy can not put 2 and 2 together about a "tight harness" to the ignition switch, then he is not going to be able to rectify the problem himself anyway... (they happen to be the same people that freak out at this stuff as they have little or no understanding of what is going on) It is more fear from lack of knowledge I figure... Guess they do not want to hear about stretched brake lines from bar risers...

If this was a serious safety issue, there would have been bells and whistles going off...

UM respectively, where have you been? they put a nation wide HOLD on all SALES or removing them from show room floors and will not return the m to the owners from service bays, so must be pretty serious NO?

I have a few contacts in Suzuki USA.... while it's not on "offical Suzuki paper", this passage from the first post in this thread is pretty accurate:

<div class="iF-Passage"><div class="QUOTEHEAD">Quote:
<div class="QUOTE clearfix"><span class="quoteBegin"> </span>
Dear Suzuki Dealer

I regret to inform you that Suzuki has determined that a problem affecting motor vehicle
safety exists on certain 2008 GSX1300RK8 model motorcycles. The ignition switch lead
wire may be improperly routed resulting in loss of electrical power and stalling of the
engine. As a result, the affected units cannot be sold at retail until corrective action is
completed.
Note the use of the bolded term "improperly routed". What is likely meant here is "we tightened the ignition wire harness so damn tight that wire strands are breaking".

What I still have not read - either here or at BusaNation.com - is where any real living K8 owner has actually experienced this "loss of electrical power and stalling of the engine" that the TBS is supposed to fix. Did I simply miss it?

Did a K8 owner come forth and indicated they lost their engine or electrical power?

If they have, I'd like to see a link to it....

Yep, I agree... Seems odd not to have at least one post on here from any member experiencing this!

More than likely it was something they caught, said oh crap, then decided to fix. Not a major issue at the moment, and they caught it fast enough not to warrant a panic. I would imagine they are still doing test and this popped up. Decided to put a hold on just to get an idea of how big of an issue it was. As they released a list I believe that stated what VIN were affected, then they probably have a good grasp on it. If it was something really bad, it would have brought a grinding halt to things, big companies do what will cost them less in the end.

Anyone ever see fight club? It's not really that far off when he explains how the big car companies work.

was my thought as well...

you want something to get your skirt in a knot about...

look at the ZX14 with the rear suspension breaking and falling apart... too around 5 months from the notice to action on something that "HAS" been documented.. Suzuki is just making sure they do not really have an issue other than some guy working the assy line was unusually stressed one day or they had a new guy on the line routing the wires a bit too tight...

I applaud Suzuki for taking a pro-active and public stance on this, just a shame it gets all blown out of proportion...

I bet you can go buy the ZX14 with the azzend falling out

WOW,
Now I'm glad I "ONLY" have an "old" 2004 that is running fine...........

Really, I hope that everyone with a new one gets their "fix" real quick.

It sucks to have your baby sit, waiting for a repair.

This thread has generated more anxiety than a discussion about politics or religion.

Kinda crazy.

Everyone needs to take a little blue football-shaped pill and have a beer...

Ok, bogie...that's the wierdest looking football I've ever seen!

Actually, that might diffuse the static over the topic, as well...youse guys would be momentarily (up to 36 hours, I hear) distracted.

Well lucky me. i was one of the many VIN #s that was captured with the recall. i just got off my bike from talking with the dealership from where i bought both my bikes and i've already got a appointment on the 18th to bring it in and have it looked at. Right now Suzuki hasn't released any information for the fix. My salesman said with the no sale on the busa hurts his pockets bcuz he sells about 8 a month. Anyway i will post with results when its done.

My V.I.N falls into the bikes affected.

Not to worry

We will find out details Monday , No big deal

I don't think this thread is trying to put the fear of God into anyone or "Chicken Little". It actually has been very effective in getting the information out and educating the consumers. It was kind of nice to know ahead of the dealership calling me what my fate was going to be and to actually see the letter from Suzuki.

Now as with any thread, people will share their beliefs but in the end it's the individual's choice on what path they choose to take.

Oh, wait... Expect for us unlucky shmucks that can't even pick up their bikes although they have been paid for!!!

You must be VERY relieved, Harv.

Oh yeah, I'm relieved. Last night at Hooters did a lot of relieving for me.

Only problem, after putting on my new Factory Pro velocity stacks, my bike runs like shid. I got to put it back to original, and try it that way again.

If that fixes it, it is power commander time.
