(Wag @ Mar. 25 2007,05:53) Most of you know my feelings about religion in general. There was a time years ago when I was very angry about what I felt were deceptions in religions and there was a time when that was specifically directed toward Christianity.
One of the things which still bugs me more than anything else is the propensity of religious proponents to claim that their way is the only way to god. You see this in many cults around the world. It's an especially prevalent mantra in most Muslim and Christian religions.
"If you don't adhere to THIS religion, you will not go to heaven." It is frequently also interpreted to mean, by extension, " . . . you're an evil person."
It's this teaching alone which makes it impossible to believe that god is fair, loving, kind or just. For that matter, Islam teaches of a god which is exactly the opposite of loving or kind and Christianity teaches of a god which has a history of violence and bigotry. Most Christian professors will not address that concept, preferring to avoid it altogether.
Oprah is no hero of mine, to be sure. But she does raise a valid question: What happens to all the people who live their lives without hearing about Jesus? Or Mohammed? Or whatever other religion under discussion? Will those people be able to go to God and say, "I never heard about this. What are you talking about?"
According to most Christian sects, that person will be sent straight to hell with no possibility of a do-over. So far, nobody has ever been able to explain how that's actually fair, just or loving.
While the above may sound like an attack on Christianity, Islam, and religion in general (okay, maybe it is a little), I do maintain an open mind and am more than willing to listen to any explanations or teachings of which I may be unaware which are suitable justifications and will clear up any of my misconceptions.

Lou.. my friend.. and you know you are my friend
I have pondered that question myself.
The answer I have is one that is based on "faith" lol... (what else would it be based on?
)
The bible teaches that ALL will have the opportunity to know Jesus and they will have the opportunity to accept him or reject him.
With that in mind I would like to point out that God can pretty much do what he wants to do.
No one knows what a person experiences in their mind just before they die. No one..
The mind is an awesome thing, and we all know that in our mind we can experience dreams that seem to transcend hours and days while in real "time" it actually has only been a few minutes.
We also all have experienced a dream where an external experience (such as a dog barking, gun shot, car backfiring) has caused us to have an entire dream about an event but the dream itself might last only a few seconds.
My point? we do not know that if within a persons mind, just before death that person is witnessed to and given the chance to accept or reject Jesus just before they die.
they can be in a coma, or live in the far reaches of the planet. Doesn't matter if they are wealthy beyond belief or live in the highest parts of the Appalachian mountains in a cave and do not speak known spoken words.
How is that fair that someone might live all their life submitting to God while someone else could have lived a totally sinful life and be given a chance just seconds before they die and both end in the same place? lol.. from a human prospective it isnt fair lol..
But God is more about mercy and forgiveness than anything else. There is even a parable in the bible that address's this specific topic letting us know that someone could accept the offer that God provides us at the very last moment and would receive the same wages of someone who has served all their life.

But, with that in mind. that is just something I personally believe in. doesn't mean it is true, nor does it mean that if that is the case all can wait until the last minute and accept Christ then.. because I am only human.. what if I am wrong?
So the bottom line is I have faith that God has that whole thing covered as far as insuring ALL have a chance to accept him or reject him.
God actually provides us an example for this of how someone who never heard about Jesus was and could be witnessed to after death..
All of the people that always bring up the question "what if someone never heard of God or Jesus?" already know about God and Jesus and have made a decision.
Personally, I always hear that there are people in the world that have never heard of God or Jesus but I have never met one.
