The issues of the world......

I wish Obama had more of a "my way or the highway" Trump attitude, but he doesn't. The watered down Health Care Act, while better than what we had before, was a shell of what he originally proposed. It would have been an option as well, and I believe people would have jumped on as they realized the costs and benefits.

When you have two huge corporate blocks -Insurance & Pharma- feeding at the public trough, their only interest being increased profits, you are never going to turn back the clock. These are the people that fund the political campaigns, these are the people who provide lavish retirements for politicians upon their exit from public life. What politician will throw all that away just so some downtrodden person living in poverty can afford a medicine?
In March 2023, Obama traveled to Australia as a part of his speaking tour of the country. During the trip, Obama met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and visited Melbourne for the first time. Obama was reportedly paid more than $1 million for two speeches.
They weren't held at the Sydney cricket ground either, so what small group pays 500k for a single speech?
It's easy now for the interlocking corporate structure to repay it's servants.

Monsanto is a publicly-traded global provider of agricultural products headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. On September 14, 2016, Bayer and Monsanto signed a definitive agreement under which Bayer proposed to acquire Monsanto for $128 USD per share. The offer price valued Monsanto at $66 billion USD.
Bayer is one of the world's biggest Pharmaceutical corporations. Ranked 7th in the world by revenue. These huge Corporations hold the keys of power. Monsanto was an embarrassment facing untold legal actions in the US over the effects of Roundup. Sell it offshore and half the problems are solved. Whatever one thinks of the affordable care act there is only one winner at the end of the day. Pharma.

It is the Holocaust Remembrance Day today and I was just watching a documentary on the Nuremberg trials where they showed concentration footage to the German prisoners on trial.....

This should be shown in history classes in schools so it is never forgotten or diminished.....

There was a poll done amongst younger school aged people recently and the vast majority of them thought the holocaust was exaggerated.....11 million people were killed by the nazi regime in concentration camps........6 million of these were Jewish people.....at the time Canada only had a population of 10-11 million.......

This event in human history should never be forgotten.......

There probably isn't many left, but for a time they had living survivors that you could actually sit and talk with at various places. Like museums or memorials. That was very powerful. You actually get to see a tattoo that you hear about.

I think the documentary said there are less than 2600 living in Canada now....

I think some of these people should be guest speakers at school assemblies across the nation today....

This morning I asked the neighbor kids (3 aged 13 and one 10 almost 11) whose bus stop is right beside my driveway if they knew the significance of today and none of them did nor did they even know what the Holocaust was.......

.....a sad state of education.....

My dad was a WWII Vet. He made it to 94. Joined up at age 19. He died about 10 years ago. Most of these survivors would have been young children at the time. Like say 5-12 years old. So they are in their 90s by now. So yeah every year we gotta lose quite a few.

The ones I spoke with were at the WW II museum. Both tiny women. I think one was 6 and the other 9. As they die, we lose a bit of history with each passing.

They were so grateful hearing me share about my dad being there to defeat the Germans. The way they gushed over him saving them, you would have thought he was the one that came into camp to release them. Even though I said he was a pilot, they didn't care. Every American was a hero to them.

This documentary I'm watching now is very eye opening....

They interviewed 5 female survivors in the '70s and they are very graphic in their conversation with the interviewer.

These people went through hell.....one speaks of her entire family being rounded up, she was a newly wed and was staying at her parent's house when the Germans came and took them all out and herded them to the rail yard where they were loaded on cattle cars and taken to Bergen-Belson in Belgium......her youngest sister of 5 was immediately killed when they arrived along with any infants or toddlers. The men and women were separated and sent to different parts of the camp...

Her parents who were older, were killed and the younger people had to go dig a mass grave to put their bodies in....she said it was surreal to see her parents getting thrown into the grave like trash......

I think schools should be showing one of these interviews to educate students and so this is never forgotten...

I have seen with my own eyes the result of ethnic cleansing during the war in the Balkans and that vision has never left me.

I was at "Walmartia" today and there sure were a lot of those people filling pick up orders....

Some of the aisles were impassable.......

One guy who was a vet judging by what he was wearing was pretty grumpy about it too...

He said something to the affect of him not even being able to get his items because some SOB was too lazy to go buy their own groceries.....one of the young workers filling an order took offense and it looked like he was going to square up against the vet.....that is until one of his other co-workers came over to drag him back.

I think the old guy would have eaten that guy alive so he had better thank his co-worker......I looked at the vet and said that fellow was about to get a beat down wasn't he....and he winked and smiled......then said he was hoping the guy wouldn't have listened to his co-worker.....

I've seen a lot of attitude coming out of the worker a few times.....he almost seems angry he has to work or something....

Those people pulling orders must be under a lot of pressure time wise. There's been several times when I've almost been run over by the big carts they use. It's shocking how many people park and wait for their orders. Kind of a drive thru grocery store I guess. Tells you a little about modern society.

This must be the only game in town I assume? I have no such experience. Just down the road is a small general store but for major shopping I drive eight miles away where there are three grocery stores and a CVS. No waiting in line except at the checkout. One day a Yosemite tour bus full of Chinese folks stopped and flooded the store so there were lines that day. Of course 40 miles away in another county there’s a city of a half million. It has all the stores and outlets but I’ve yet to visit a Walmart or a Costco.

We have 4 grocery stores here.......and the Walmart is a "superstore" so I sometimes go there so I can get all the stuff on my list...

Normally I get there at 0700 and out of there shortly after....but today I had to go later so I could turn in a prescription for one of the elderly ladies we take care of and the pharmacy opens at 0800.....

I generally go to one of the other grocery stores......it opens at 0800 and I get in and out of there pretty quickly.....I use the self checkout so I'm even faster....

The closest Costco is 2 hrs away and the last time I drove by it the parking lot was completely full so I kept driving....

Not at all. I only go there for certain items. Most of my groceries come from Aldi’s or Harter House. Walmart is always super busy and crowded like Bee describes. A lot of people here use Door Dash for groceries. They don’t even have to leave the house lol. Heck, being retired, I’m glad to get occasionally.

Walking this guy makes the world issues disappear, he’s a good critter and what’s better is I can walk him anytime I want without all the stuff that goes into owning a dog

I was out doing a few errands this morning when I saw a great big, lifted F250 sitting in the parking lot which had no steps.....I thought to myself that I wonder who owns that thing and how they get in and out of it....

Along comes this young short guy who has to reach up over his head to open the door.....I watched him basically do a pull up to get himself into that thing.....he must be single as I certainly can't see a shorter stature lady trying to get into it.....

I just don't get the attraction to something like that...

It reminded me of a young soldier who had a Tacoma with all the bells and whistles-a great big lift kit with everything out of the Skyjacker" catalogue, the truck never saw dirt and he hated driving it in the winter.....he went to the airport to pick up his mother and she couldn't get in it so she had to take a taxi to his house.....

Then he and his wife had a baby and it was so much work to get her and the baby in and out of the truck they bought another car and kept the truck as a toy....but he seemed to be driving it less and less.......

Here there is a trend called squatting. They lift the front end and lower the rear end. Like to the ground lowered.

So you get a pick up pointing skyward at about a 35 ° angle. And a back bed pointing down. Headlights pointing to the sky and bed that is useless for hauling anything.

Makes no sense to me. But it's the latest car statement trend.

A very foolish trend......I've read that squatted trucks are illegal in Florida (I don't know about anywhere else) and they will ticket and tow any they come across....

Thankfully it's not a trend here although if it were, headlights have to be properly aimed or that is a big ticket in itself...
