The issues of the world......

One fear we all have is unless there is an election called and the liberal party is thrown out, who knows what we will get in his place...his entire caucus sucks.....and there's nobody in there who anyone would want for a prime minister....
Come on Bee. Do you really think that there is "nobody" that "anyone" would want for a prime minister? That would be like saying that "nobody" wanted Harris to be president of the USA because we elected the orange pathological liar. If those people are "in there", it must be someone wanted them in politics.

lol, that coming from a guy who lives in a freezing climate? You know how useless those things are up there, takes half the battery capacity just to keep the cabin and the battery warm. I'll tell you one thing though, speaking of government control, those EV are fully controllable and full of cameras and sensors so when the government decides it's time it'll tap into all that data and you won't be able to wave out the window without getting a fine. You might as well be driving with a traffic cop beside you with his ticket book open.
If heating the EV's heaters are taking too much power, they will probably do something like use heat pumps to heat the cabins instead of just using heat coils. And I'm looking forward to all vehicles being driven by computers. Computers are much better at doing most everything than humans are. The don't shave or put makeup on while they are driving. They don't sight see and run into others because they were distracted. And your last sentence makes zero sense at all. Read it again. It's a self driving car.

Hell, I'm not saying I would like it or probably even be alive if and when it happens....

Lots of ICE vehicles are in the same boat, they have cameras, sensors and can be controlled....each day my wife's car gets a download from the "mothership" and a friend of mine has a BMW that he has to pay a monthly fee for heated seats....

Sadly this "utopia" of self driving cars is coming at some point.....
Does BMW charge a monthly fee for heated seats?
No, BMW no longer charges a monthly fee for heated seats:

  • Reason
BMW stopped the subscription service in 2023 after receiving backlash from customers and low uptake. The company said that customers didn't respond well to paying for features they expected to be standard.

Man the U.S. is turning into Canada more every year!
How many Canadians file personal bankruptcy over medical bills every year? Why would they? They have national health care.

Now, how many Americans file for personal bankruptcy every year over medical bills? According to Google, "If the results are projected nationwide, 326441 bankruptcies last year were related to an illness or injury to the filer or a family member, and 267575 other filers had substantial medical bills though they also listed other reasons—or gave no reason—for their bankruptcies."

I have a relative who is a bankruptcy attorney and he says that a lot of his cases are due to medical bills.

News flash. The USA isn't the best and greatest at every single thing in the world, no matter what some talking heads would like us to believe. We can learn from other countries, and Canada is one of them.

Yes but yours resigned also. I guess our 3rd in line isn't voted on here either.
Google "Gerald Ford". When our president and vice president resigned and he was speaker of the house, he automatically became president. I'm pretty sure that Canada has a similar chain of command.

Canadians immigrate to American in double the amounts of Americans immigrating to Canada.

So there's that.

Have you ever considered that the weather may have something to do with that? There are a lot of baby boomers getting to the age that they don't want to live where it gets cold. That and a lot of other things. Guns for one. I sure can't imagine many of them coming to the USA for healthcare, unless they are uber rich.

Have you ever considered its their poorly run country that causes it?

Yeah well, consumers will be consumers, personally I'd never consider such an arrangement. It'd be like buying a pair of shoes and having to repay for them every week. It's what the corporations want though and you see it everywhere. Modern healthcareTm is a classic example, get them on the hook for regular pills and regular visits.

A lot of western politicians retired before their terms ended in the last couple of years, the ones responsible for pushing through the unpopular covid measures. Never seen so many stooges bailing out. Reminded me of the mass retirement of long term central bank governors in the lead up to the GFC.

That shows how long it has been since I talked to that fellow.....

Good to hear that BMW woke the hell up.....but it goes to show you that this sort of subscription is possible.

I'll tell you something about Canadian national healthcare.....it might not cost us in the pocket book but it costs us in our overall health.....wait times at some ERs is 12 hrs or more and people have actually died in the waiting rooms...

Our healthcare system is broken right now.....

Lots and lots of people have died awaiting tests or diagnoses.......

I do see that the US healthcare system isn't a model to follow either...

I guess that's why BMW dropped the plan.....

However, almost every car comes with a 6 month subscription to Sirius XM just go get you hooked and then the monthly payments start...I cancelled mine in both vehicles but they are tenacious and constantly send us emails and hard copy re-subscription notices that we ignore.

I also got rid of my on-board navigation because it came with an update fee same as the old Garmin standalone units did...at least I had the option with those, the on-board navigation would shut down if I didn't update it.

Many "snowbirds" have ceased going to the US due to the very high cost of health insurance and in Florida, the cost of living/taxes.....

Just before Christmas I was in a box store where an older gentleman was looking over snowblowers.....I happened to be walking by so he asked me if I knew much about them....I was actually taken aback a little because he was an older guy and generally they are pretty knowledgeable about such things.....he explained that for the last 20 yrs or so he, his wife and a group all wintered in Florida but it has become impossible to afford to do so now so they have all sold their properties there...

I helped him pick out a snowblower and then took it home for him in my pickup......it turned out that he lived just down the street from me.

We have a quite a few Americans living here, I had 4 ex-pats in my former unit......

Yes they have found other states to winter in. We have RV parks that cater to snow birds. They have very nice accomodations in these lots. Their entire model is based on 6 month occupants.

P.S. A lot of Americans are leaving Fla due to its high cost of living and taxes.

Some friends of ours bought a place in Yuma Arizona about 5 years ago. We visited them a few years ago and he asked us if we wanted some lemons and or grapefruit. Turns out that the park that they are in is about half Canadians, and they weren't coming that winter because of Covid. I think he told me that they could drive there but not fly there. And the fruit needs to be picked or it brings desert rats in. It was some of the best grapefruit that I've ever eaten.

I don't know if the Canadians all returned now or not.
