Thoughts on cruisers??

The motors on these are gorgeous and I wouldn’t kick one out of the garage except for the weight, just under a half ton!

Nothing wrong with having 2 types of bikes. I have a Gen I and a C50 cruiser.

They compliment each other very well. One for lazy rides around town, poker runs and rallies; the other for zipping around, sportbike meetups and the like.

I'm a Suzuki "fan boy." I will be updating my cruiser to a M109 this winter when bikes prices are the lowest. As my wife says,"I'm cheap." I only paid $1500 for the cruiser three years ago.

It was $4000 for the 2002 Gen I with 8500 miles, last year.

I had a lot of Harley's but my favorite was my 18 Road King. I was sorry I sold it. It had good wind protection (you can add lower fairings in the winter), handled well for a big hog, and was comfortable. Pics below. It is the lower end pricing for touring models. I added a lot if extras though.

My favorite Harley cruiser was probably my Fat Boys. I had 3 (2005, 2010, 2018). Picture below under the Road King.

The V-Max is considered a cruiser!

Another fun Harley was the Fat Bob. I had an 2018 (bottom pic).

Sorry to hear that Beamer isn’t working out for you Arch??? Didn’t see you post anything about it so I figured everything was gravy. Maybe you shoulda went with your 1st impulse and bought that Super Duke GT?? Or perhaps it’s time you come on over to my world!!! :beerchug: The new H-D’s and he’ll even the new Indian Baggers are pretty damn nice!!! If I wasn’t so attached to my Roadglide I would definitely consider them new Chieftan Darkhorse Baggers

I have a long analysis of the BMW, figured nobody would bother to read it so I never posted it. I would have been happier with the KTM no doubt, but then I would have never ridden the Busa again and I would have abandoned my long trip goals. The BMW has been isolating. People really hate people riding this bike - it is amazing. And drive the bike off the dealer's lot and you lose 50% of it's value. Of course that is true for most high bikes these days.

Everyone on here enjoys your threads and insight so don’t sell yourself short...... There may be an .Org member or 2 that is considering a Beamer that could use a point of view from a fellow Busa rider. Sucks regardless on resale when dealing with high end vehicles. Harley’s hold their value the best of any motorcycle but even then it’s not what it used to be.

There’s an over abundance of used bikes in the market that’s killing the value. Nowadays dealerships are all about selling inventory. So they are willing to wheel and deal on new bikes to boost their sales. Not to mention the way society is we ALWAYS gotta have the newest bestest shiniest thing!!! People always upgrading cell phones, TV’s, vehicles etc when it’s not really necessary. I know plenty of guys who got murdered on a trade in just to have basically the same bike with 1 or 2 new features or 5 more HP....??? Absolute Insanity!!!! Guys going upside down $10,000 dollars on a loan just to have “The New Bike” on the block :banghead:

If you do manage to find a buyer what are you considering next?? You may have to end up taking a loss just to get out from under it.....

I tried the cruiser route, got bored after about a year.

I still ride with the cruiser crowd and the Harley crowd though, but then I use a street legal dirt bike. I can outrun them up to around 80-90 mph and keep up slightly over 100mph. There are only two bikes which can do this, basically the same as below, but plated. It is easier to ride and next to a cruiser with all it's heavy metal junk these bikes remain an absolute blast, they can do anything.

There was a guy who use to come to the Busa gathering at Robbins, he also purchased one and had it a couple of months, then sold it. Just could not get used to it. In general, coming off a Hayabusa we are spoiled with the versatility of the bike, so I think one has to choose carefully before selecting something else.

You can outrun them for what 40 miles!?!? 2 guys I work with have Husqvarna dual sports and they have to fill up 3x’s to my 1......... So there really isn’t a comparison between a “touring bike” and a dual sport. You can keep up with me or outrun me on the highway till you need gas then you gotta stop meanwhile I keep on rolling. Might not seem like a big deal but when your on a 4 or 500 mile trip those extra fuel stops add up.

Owned damn near every type of bike there’s is and a dual sport has limitations just like every other bike. Different bikes are built for different purposes. I ride with those guys all the time whether on my Busa or my Harley and they absolutely struggle on the highway. The wind beats em up and the gearing/motors just aren’t setup for maintaining those rpm’s for hours upon hours of riding. Those bikes get real buzzy/vibrations @ those highway speeds. Not to mention the seat or lack there of.... storage etc

Well I am considering just making it work. Looking at another aftermarket seat. Lowered the pegs, and some helibars (not just raising the bars but super adjustable), and finally an ECU flash to improve throttle response. I just can't see losing $15K when there isn't a real option that I really want. So I have been doing some soul searching these days. I've done one long trip on the BWM and it was ok, maybe I'm just a hooligan at heart and that's how I roll! Just sort of thinking I need to keep things as they are until the Gen 3 comes out. Then make a decision. Of course the BMW will only be worth $100 by then!

You should definitely post a thread about this. I’m curious to know about these issues you just can’t seem to get past?

I know for me I didn’t have any issues going from a modded out bumped up Busa to a big heavy slow H-D. Figured with that Beamer and all those bells & whistles you be happier than a pig in sh*t!?!?

OK I'll find the "article" I wrote and post. I think the biggest problem is huge expectations on my part and in the end the BMW is just not exciting. It's not a bike that inspires passion like the Busa, it's more of a nice convertible with 2 wheels. A convertible would be great, except each time I climb aboard it I'm looking over at a rocket, sort of dulls the charm of the BMW.

I did the Trans American trail on mine, Tennessee all the way to Portland Oregon, 60% dirt 40% pavement. I get around 60 miles to the gallon, range is around 140 miles. My Husky struggles in 6th gear around 50 mph, have to go back to 5th, so cruising on the highway at 80 mph is a breeze. I would not go pavement touring on it though doing a 500 mile trip, the Busa is for that and it fits me like a glove. I just think lugging +600lbs of iron around on a slow bike is absolutely crazy.

Every bike has it's place and purpose. I am not a cruiser kind of guy but respect the fact they exist.

As long as a person is out getting in the wind and enjoying themselves, whatever they are riding gets my vote.

The closest thing to a cruiser I have ever owned is my Gen 1 Bandit

I have my intruder 1400 (always loved Suzuki and the srad had before the busa locked that love in). Recently i have put it up for sale just for the little extra room and cash but that has caused me to get back on and ride it again and made me realize i like the option to just cruise. This one has plenty of torque just not much for top end and better to ride with my Harley crew then the busa as i get tired of doing 60 in the freeway trying not to just run off and leave them.

I had one of those, a 93 4 speed. After I gutted the exhaust and replaced the restrictive air boxes with pod filters and had the carbs done at the Wheelsmith Dyno shop in San Rafael it was a real Harley killer. I loved the torque and highway cruising but with that front end kicked out like it was, cornering really suffered. Traded it for a 1982 CBX.

Mines a 95 last year of the 4 speed, thought about doing the whole uncorking but then along came the busa so i lost interest in that part. Even as it sits keeps up pretty good with the dyna i ride with and leaves the sporty no problem.
