Now, don't put me in the nutter or conspiracy group, but I'm starting to wonder if it's mother nature getting a bit pissed at us for screwing the planet so much, (environment, wars) and having way too many people. Mother nature seems to have a clearing of the decks every now and then.

Yeah, she does. AIDS and H1N1 are a couple examples. If people were anywhere as few in number and one group isolated from the next with little travel between the way humans in a primal environment would live an ecologically sustainable lifestyle, those viruses probably would have died out in short order. I do not believe Coronavirus was a natural phenomenon though. For one thing, it's not the normal Coronavirus that has been around since god knows when and another, I believe it came from a lab wether it escaped or was released on purpose. As far as genetic engineering of the virus, I'll wait to decide if that is true or not. If it was, we could be in for some real surprises and probably not good ones.

Heart disease kills 10x the number of people in Canada every year than Covid-19 has total.... but that's not apparently worth destroying the country over...

Hell, drug overdoses far outnumbered Covid deaths here in my province but instead of locking down addicts and cleaning them up, they open more "Safe Injection Sites" and hand out free needles.

Hi Yes that makes a lot know how. Of course shut the country down to keep the few people safe But open up more places to get high, I see how it helped to keep the 911 ODs down. NOT!

You can suck all the covid you want but your freedom doesn't include you deciding to put me at risk. No right extends over the rights of another. A mask protects OTHERS FROM YOU. Not your right to spread a pandemic.
Sucking Covid lol. That cracked me up

No offense but this is a bit of stupid logic. First we do what we can about the flu. We have a shot that if people would get it flu deaths would be very low. So the problem is solved, people just don't get it. Same with drugs, its something people choose. On the other hand, there is no way to control covid so letting it get out of control is pretty dangerous. But beside all that ration;al thinking, it makes no sense to say these people are dying from X, so why try and save these people dying from y?

So why don't you say what you really mean. The people that covid is killing are not worth stopping the economy for.

As pandemics go, this one is very weak.

Using your logic, the people that the Flu has killed over the years were not worth stopping any economy for.
5 Million Cases Worldwide, 650,000 Deaths Annually

You are missing the point. The flu is preventable. COVID isn't. You don't want something we cannot treat to be allowed to get out of control. Is that too difficult to understand?

So let's travel outside the U.S. Spain and Italy, both of which had it bad, mandated stricter controls than we do, and it's coming back in another wave. Despite doing all the things we aren't doing, it is still another outbreak. Would this suggest that mask are ineffective? Or would it suggest that's it's transmitted by a pathway nobody has figured out? Or has it mutated around the mask barrier?

I am not anti-mask. But if it proves to be ineffective, isolation is the only way I see to stop the spread.

Riiiight, just nearly a quarter million people, just in the US. Why care about them?

So about 1/3rd the number that die from heart disease every year down there. I don't see the government shutting down fast food restaurants and putting emergency legislation in place to force people to exercise to eliminate that public health threat.

250,000 lives per year from medical malpractice. Who is caring about them?

Public threat? Since when did anyone get heart disease by standing next to someone? Someone who didn’t want heart disease. Pipe back up when that happens.

Interesting responses to the thread and the poll.

Those who want the freedom to choose are approaching 40%

I believe if best practices, being social distancing and wearing of masks were mandated, the fatality rate per capita would have been a lot lower.

So I am wondering what would have happened if the Administration mandated it? More protests because people lose their freedom and how would the Democrats have reacted?

I can remember when Trump was considering telling the Governors what to do, Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of NY said he can’t do that, it is against the constitution. His words were “He is a President, not a King.” NY has the second highest fatality rate per capita after New Jersey.

This is a tough nut to crack. The virus takes lives, but a poor economy with a rise in poverty may take even more.
