Well boys, it hurts but I’m still kickin!

Tuesday morning they removed the top lobe from my right lung. The Doc said that when inflated the piece he removed was about the size of my hand. I was hoping to go home today but there are still bubbles in my drain tube. BTW, this ‘tube’ is just slightly smaller than a garden hose, no foolin, coming out of my right side between my armpit and my waist. Anyone want to discuss pain? Manoman! The right side of my chest feels like a Harley is parked on it and the (exhaust) pipe is also quite painful. Bandages are changed 4 times a day, day and night. Of course the nurses wake me @ 3:30 am every night to check my vitals….Hoping to go home mañana but I won’t know until then. All in all a pretty crappy experience I must say. Deep inhales are kind of impossible right now but I’m working on it. Still hard to get enough air behind a cough to bring up anything productive. For all you kids out there, don’t smoke! Suppose fifty+ years of non filter Camels had anything to do with it?

Well I made it home but (with) the 3/4” tube coming out of the lung. I’d post a pic but wont until someone wants to see it. It’s pretty raw. The doc initially said he wouldn’t send me home with the tube but decided he would as long as I return next week and even then, if bubbles from the lung are still present the tube has to stay in. My worry and his is that my chest cavity will fill with air but I just couldn’t take staying in the hospital any longer. The next few days will be hard. The pain is twofold, the pressure on the upper right side of the chest is quite severe and the area on my side where the tube exits is an open hole and very sore. They gave me dilaudid and some oxys to take home. In the hospital I got them intravenously. When I cough the tube sounds off like a small horn! I’m not really laughing, just the emoji.

I’m Glad to hear you can at least be in the comfort of your home. Praying that things get better soon and pain lessens quick.

Hi. I know that ho rsepittles [do not laugh to hard] are not fun. As I have spent a lot of time in them. Sometimes it is better to suffer it out for doctors to be close at hand. Short, stabed, 23 broken bones and my 1 kidney started to fail one time.

Shoot Wuzza , I remember you mention something about being a former smoker , hope you get a clean recovery now that this procedure has been done . I understand the cigs addiction as well , been free of them for 9 years , coming on 10 now . I keep an eye on this post .

Thanks Paul. The pain is incredible and the pain pills fade around 3-4 hours even though the directions say to take them every 6. Can’t wait 6 hours. I still have air bubbles coming out of the chest tube sticking out of my side so the lung hasn’t completely healed yet. As soon as they disappear I can have the tube removed. My daughter counted five incisions on my side and back with four of them closing. The 12 gauge sized hole the tube is in will be sutured when the tube is removed. It’s a PITA changing the bandaging at the end of the tube. My daughter did it for me but she went home yesterday. I was told not to lift anything over 15 pounds. Ha! As if. Perfect riding weather here too dammit!
