...oh right, this was your thread on the great reset.......we get carried away sometimes around here.....
You are correct in your post.
Sadly
The once proud people of aboriginal decent have been abused and neglected for years and years-sadly by their own people as well...they are a society within a society. Many experiments were conducted at how to best help them. Canadian taxpayers spent billions upon billions on projects to better the lives of indigenous peoples. We sent contractors to build entire communities for them, sent in Drs, Dentists, teachers, civil engineers, IT techs, advisors on how to establish their own self governing bodies, etc, etc...
Some communities flourished while others fell apart, some of their own leaders absconded with millions of band dollars leaving the entire community in a state of disarray. We as a country have given them free secondary education, no tax payments, first right of refusal for government contracts (after the government sets them up in a business) and still they seem to not all flourish.
It has been many generations since the battle was fought between indigenous peoples and the government of Canada. Somehow the government of the past decided residential schools were the way to go as many non-indigenous people were already in them. Since that time, all surviving residential school people and their families have been economically compensated and a formal apology has been given to them. Trudeau even pardoned 5 historical chiefs who were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of white settlers...
I really don't know how much more as a nation we can do for indigenous people. We have millions of immigrants/refugees arriving each year who don't understand (or care) about why we are doing what we do for them as they lived in their own hell before coming here.
I'm Metis, I have a card, I don't even know where it is and have never even removed it from the letter it came in.
