When Do You Put Your X Mas Decorations Up?

I'll put the tree and my village up about two weeks before Christmas...oh, and a wreath on the front door...nothing overboard...

On Dec. 26th, EVERYTHING is down and put away...I have OCD you know  I can't stand having all the new stuff and the house is a wreck, so one day after Christmas, it's all boxed up and my life can resume as normal (yeah, yeah, define normal) LOL

we won't be doing ANYTHING this year.. it is our year to head to St. Louis for christmas...

why put up a tree and decorations if we aren't even going to be home?

But every OTHER year we put it up about 2 weeks before christmas (less time to keep the dogs from peeing on the tree:banghead:)

We used to take this approach Jules. When stationed in Virginia we seemed to always travel back to Houston to spend the Holidays with family. I enjoyed the trees and stuff at family's house but did not have to return home to put the stuff away.

Now with a kiddo, it is more difficult to live by this theory. Ian LOVES Christmas just like his Mommy and always wants to put up the decorations and tree. If he had it his way we would have a Christmas Tree all year round.

I do the outside decorating which I'll start during the thanksgiving weekend. It'll probably take me one more additional weekend to get things complete. My wife handles the inside so I have no clue when that'll all get done.

We'll pickup a tree sometime during the 2nd week of December and then have our annual tree trimming party shortly there after.

For us things really start spinning out of control from the week before thanksgiving until next year. There's always so much to do and not enough time to do it.

and the spiffy 3 series in the drive never hurts.....

No No it's the snow that I thought turned out extra cool... New computer, I don't have my library of photos right at hand just yet. It really was supposed to be about the cold and winter... Though I suppose the tail lights are a bit festive...

Well if you have some time while in St Louis, I know of a few org members that would love to see you guys.

I know what you mean though. When we head back home for the holidays, I usually don't put up the decorations. But we are not going anywhere this year!!!!! I don't do the outside lights, cause well, BW refuses to put them up. So only the inside gets done.

I Start putting up Christmas lights and decorations after Thanksgiving, usually on Sunday after, cause I am hunting till then.

....you know if the Indians would have given the Fathers a donkey instead of a turkey....we would all be getting a piece of azz on Thanksgiving:laugh:

???

Why do so many people us x-mas to say Christmas? Do they not realize they're taking out the whole meaning of the word and the holliday? Or do they realize it and that's why they do it? Sorry for the rant, but it just agrivates me to see x-mas used to say Christmas.

I haven't put up Christmas lights in years. But this will be my GF & my first X-mas together, and she is the biggest X-mas nut I have ever met. So I have been informed that my spot will be decorated and ready to have the switch flipped on Turkey Day. We will see what happens.

Messing with me all she will get for X-mas will be the electric bill !!

Seriously though, I am feeling this old girl, so I just may have to go ahead and light the place up for her.

You old softie.....W now have your number. Christmas is a great time for healing all of the crap of the past year. It's a great time and I enjoy it a lot.
Merry Christmas Southside!

I'm thinking about it now. I have two 3 foot rolls of lights for the outside. I'll probably start to put them up in a week or two (depending on the energy I have). This is the best time of the year. But I really miss the cold and snow. You really need to have snow on Christmas.

I can see several trips to Julian (up in the mountains in San Digo County)to throw some snow in the back of the truck to bring back home.

I've been known to celebrate Thanksgiving out on the beach off Coronado

Merry Christmas everyone

No reason for this quote except that I noticed that I was at 499. So I wanted to see what happened when I hit 500. Does that make me a post ho?

If I had it my way I'd have the tree up as soon as now!! Dave and I don't see eye to eye on the outside lights....however, what I say goes inside the house. It's my ALL TIME FAVORITE time of year. Especially since my birthday is on the 20th.

Just remember that X-Mas is perfectly acceptable and has been used for a long time.

Also remember that Christmas is little more than Church propaganda slathered over a Pagan Holiday that the Church couldn't crush...

The tree, Yule log, lights, feasts etc... All Pagan in origin has nothing to do with Christ or Christians, or at least didn't until the church said it did.

As WWJD pointed out though last year I think, the Christians have chosen this time of year to proclaim as the date Christ was born so there we go, good enough I suppose. Just remember that it's origins are NOT Christ based, should help ya not worry so much about X-Mas or Christmas. One is as good as the other.

:beerchug:

Don't take my word for it... Snopes and Wikipedia

So really you can relax and tell whomever has been telling you Xmas is "bad" that it's actually just fine...

I just leave mine up year round and plug them in the day after turkey day:whistle:

j/k:laugh:

I see a LOT of homes layered in xmas lights year round. Big Homes, little homes, on and on... Wasn't how I was taught but with some of them it kind of makes sense. It's the "icicle" style of lights that I find really really tacky though when left up all year. Just looks.... Wrong.
