Who Rode Today?

Still out riding, first time I’ve been on Big Shirley in two weeks since I’ve been trying to put break in miles on the Z. Took a few miles to get back used to her on that first turn I was like WOW why isn’t this thing turning lol. Compare that to the first time I muscled the Z in a turn and damn near went off roading Lol. But back in the groove now, at about 120 miles so far. I love riding both of these bikes but talk about polar opposites. Found myself really appreciating the Busa after not riding it for 2 weeks. No pics yet at least

I’m about 16 miles due west of the fires now. Sky is rosy and ash has covered everything. Evac warnings have been issued but 16 miles is a long way. May be a long night.

Fingers and toes crossed that it dosent come any closer for you, im sure you have an escape route sorted if need be, seen the news down here with one of the fires by the coast (?) where people were caught out and choppers were brought in to rescue them...

That wasn't one of the coast fires, the helos were needed around Huntington Lake where I posted pics previously. Apparently the fire got between the campers and their escape route and there’s only a couple of roads up there and only one paved road off the mountain to the west. There’s a (lot) of back country up in the Sierras. Some areas require access or camping permits and some not. As you ride you can find several vehicles parked at the various trail heads with no one around for miles. All rough forested country. Such a beautiful area, the ‘tall and uncut’. Hope not too much of it is razed by the fire.

I didn't ride but older my brother came to visit, I told him to take the Bumblebee out for a ride so he did...after a while he came back and said he thought he knew all about what a fast bike was-he said now he does..

Now he'll always think of this bike when one of his cronies starts talking about how fast their bike is.

The riding position was a challenge for him as he normally rides his BMW RT, but said it wasn't bad and the power really was delivered well in a linear fashion similar to his Beemer only a lot more. He said he was bumbling along in 4th gear at one point at around 5k rpm and gave the go fast handle a little twist-he was surprised to see how quickly the speed came into license losing territory...he said nobody needs that much power..

I reminded him of all the silver hairs driving around it Corvettes and the like and how they probably never see their full potential-the same goes for my bike..

People on the BMW K1600 site the are always talking about the big 6 being the best engine in motorcycling. I tell them not even close and they can't believe a meer Suzuki could rival a complex masterpiece like the K. I always say the Suzuki is just 16 valves and 4 pistone and it makes my $30K super machine look like a sewing machine.

I went for a ride today, but not on the Busa . . . the Busa wouldn't want to go where I went today . . . so I took the DRZ.
Covered 220 kms and used half a tank of gas! (21 liter tank)
New Zealand at it's finest, up in the High Country, the mighty Southern Divide!

Cool! but you will need a small dinghy to come over here, our border patrol won't see you slip thru and land in a small cove I can give you the GPS co-ordinates to.
Anyway, you'll get caught trying to leave Port Philip bay heading for Bass straight by the eazgle eyed Aussie patrol boats lmao!
Seriously though, when the borders finally open, you are welcome to come stay at my place, I'll show ya my backyard, bet it's more interesting than gum trees stretching into infinity . . . and you will LOVE the West Coast just on the other side of those snow capped peaks you can see in those pics! Rain forest stretching for 400kms, on a clear sunny warm summer's day it's just bliss on s big grunty motorbike (Hayabusa) !

I got out on my beastie yesterday, our riding season is slowly disappearing....not many days left for riding. As I was coming back home there is a long straight just before the turn off to home...something told me to ride gently...as I came over the hill onto that straight, there sat a cop car...

I gave him a big wave while doing the speed limit, all he did was frown back-what a goof! Probably thought he had his daily quota when he saw my bike.

I then came home and jumped on board my other yellow beastie and spent the next 4 hrs cutting grass.

Our season is fast approaching and my best riding buddy got done by the cops yesterday. 140kph in a 80 zone. That's about 85mph in 50 zone +/-. 5km from home and didn't notice the new sign. That him out now for 12 months. On the spot come and get someone to pick you and the bike up.. New riding buddy time..
