I rode today . . in the latest fortnightly ChristChurch "Voices For Freedom" Pro-Choice March and Rally.
Lots of people there and lots of bikes and gnarly old bikers, mixed with younger and culturally different riders, NO patched riders at all, noticed by their no-show.
My Busa was getting very hot with the fan running constantly and the procession moving at 5mph or slower, then stopping and waiting etc, interestingly the temp gauge on the ol' girl never went past half way, and my radiator is old and probably partially blocked. So, yeah . . but it was obvious that the engine heat was affecting the running , the throttle response was not good compared to when at normal temps. The cooling fan's amps current loading on the battery and charging system was full on as well, with the fan dragging about 1.5V- 1.8V at low revs, and about 1V at 2500rpm.
It was only when I left the city on my way home (30 miles west, small town)
and cruising at 120-130kmh (75 - 80mph) that the fan ceased and the engine cooled to just under half way on the temp gauge.
The throttle response improved a lot, and full power was restored.
Anyways, enuff rambling from me, here's some pics from the gathering, my Busa is clearly visible, as is my mate's GSXR K6.
Also have attached pics of a Streetfightered '99 Busa I had the pleasure of straightening out a few running issues on yesterday at work.
It came in running rough, had dropped a cylinder (intermittently running on 3), number 4 was barely firing. New plugs, compression test (150,165,150,150) and visibly checked spark condition on all 4 brand new plugs. All good. Fat blue spark on all 4. Happy with that.
Checked fuel pressure whilst priming and whilst running, 2.5 bar (36psi).
A little lower fuel pressure than I'd like to have seen, 3 bar (42psi) is good.
Checked spray pattern on all 4 injectors comparing all 4, all looked ok too.
Ran it up and the idle was spot on. So also when adding throttle and quick blips and holding rpms to say 5000 were ok too.
The wiring under the throttle bodies to sensors and also to the injectors and fuel pump had been messed with and there were soldered connections on some wires. I gave the wiring a wiggle and immediately she ran rough, almost stalling.
I tidied all that wiring and restarted it, gave the wires a wiggle..... no running faults at all, smooth as a smooth thing! RESULT!!
Ok, so now for the test ride.... this bike is light, and I mean very light!!
It also has serious torque and power, big bore Wiseco forged piston kit and Yoshimura cams. It is geared low also I think coz man oh man did it wheelie easily in 1st gear, very quick to stand up! Great fun but boy you could get yourself in trouble on that bike!
Pics, Enjoy . . .
