Who Rode Today?

Out for a ride today and went to see my grand daughter...

On the way home I was bumbling along minding my own business when a green Kawi went flying by me..I hesitated then said "what the hay" and took off after him...I caught up and could have passed him at any time but held back staying behind as we were approaching traffic...

We came to a set of lights and I noticed it was a ZX9R. The rider said "I have never seen anything come up behind me like that in my mirrors before" I said "I wasn't near being topped out, I think I was in 5th gear and not anywhere near red line"

I wasn't tucked or anything and I really noticed my helmet doesn't react well at speed...it kind of shimmies from turbulence....I will have to go out on a special road I know and try it out tucked...I suspect the big air intake on the top of the helmet is causing turbulence..

Pic of the ‘big air intake’?

It's in this thread...I never got around to switching out the windshields yet as up to now, I never exceeded the speed where the turbulence was an issue like I noticed last time..

That is a good looking helmet.

My last HJC was stellar but they stopped producing it and I thought the RPHA was an upgrade...

I'm going to try the stock windscreen and see if that helps. I know @c10 advised me he had bad turbulence with his Puig double bubble windscreen..hopefully this resolves the turbulence...

I was in the same boat...having to take shorter rides because of arthritic pain in my hands...so far so good.

If I take shorter rides and be careful as to what I use my hands for before riding. If I shovel, rake, drive the lawn tractor, ride my bicycle, use the weed whacker or anything like that, it reduces my ability to ride the bike.

Dim Sim | Melbourne Icon
pic-dim-sims.jpg

Yes, the humble dim sim was invented right here in Melbourne.

The Dim Sim was developed by Chinese chef William Wing Young for his restaurant "Wing Lee"in Melbourne around 1945.

A dim sim is a Chinese-inspired meat dumpling-style snack that consists of pork or other meat, cabbage and flavourings, encased in a wrapper similar to a traditional dumpling.

Dim sims are deep-fried or steamed* and differ from typical Chinese dumplings in that they are much larger and have a thicker skin. It should not be confused with the authentic dim sum, although the Australian version's name, ingredients and portions were undoubtedly inspired by its Oriental heritage.

Famous South Melbourne Market Dim Sims

Everyone remembers the South Melbourne Market dimmies. The original South Melbourne Market dim sims were hand-made and sold by Ken (Kuen) Cheng. Since his death in 2006, the dim sims have not been quite the same but still sold as authentic* South Melbourne dim sims.

* Poor ol' Ken would be turning in his grave... his (secret recipe) dim sims were never (ever) fried and could only be purchased in bulk with a password which told you how long to cook them.

Australian's refer to a dim sim as a "dimmy"(or dimmies = plural).

Re Picture at top: We searched everywhere for a photo of an authentic Ken dim sim to no avail. Seems odd really seeing we bought hundreds from Ken (yes, we knew the password). There were plenty of fried dim sims, the odd thick skinned dim sim found in many fish & chip shops, but not the large roundish dim sims that Ken made. The photo shown is Ken Cheng and a dim sim as close as we could find..
