GLAD I DID NOT RIDE TODAY!!!
Coming down the 18 at 4am in the cage, I hit a large rock (maybe a stone but less than a boulder) and bent the right front rim. Had to replace the rim and all 4 tires (due anyway in a month or 2). Had I been on the bike this could have been a much different outcome. The 18 is really wearing out the vehicles!
I am lucky I was able to avoid running into it in the middle of the car and was able to steer the car directly over the tire, had I hit it mid section I would be replacing the oil pan, tranny and who knows what else.
I count my blessing on this one.

You (were) lucky. Riding in the mountains I have to constantly look for rocks of all sizes, pine cones of all sizes, critters large and small and in some areas, loose gravel over the pavement. I’d rather ride a dirt road than a paved road with sand or gravel on it. I hardly ever ride at night anymore either but like you, occasionally after dark in the car I still have to watch right in front of me as I drive.

What is that V-twin? not a Vmax is it?
Lol . . Arch, you really gotta brush up on your Yamaha knowledge !
That my friend, is a MT01 pretty cool bike, the guy that owns it is a 68 year old Englishman, he's lived in NZ for years, he was riding with us today but was only a faint light in our rear view mirrors.
On Friday this week he's off to Katmandu and Nepal for a month to ride a Royal Enfield for 3 weeks in a guided tour with 11 other old people, get this . . the whole trip is costing NZ$8K including everything.
That's about US$5K, pretty sweet deal, the experience would be awesome!

Damn Toad, when I saw the ad I thought of you but I musta been looking at Kiwi’s pics when I posted. Similar direction from the equator though. :D
Ha!
Hey . . most Americans think NZ and Australia are joined together anyway lol.
Hey Wuzza, NZ is closer to you than Oz, so if you do get in ya row boat and start pulling on those oars, you'll be stopping at NZ first, so let me know and I'll pick you up from where ever you wash up lmao

Does that air brake on the back end fold down at speed and pop up when you’re on the binders?
No . . but now you have got me thinkin' . . . . air brakes, hmmmmmmm . .
That bag is actually very handy.
I've ridden without it and I don't think it has any air braking characteristics. Much.

Out for a ride today and went to see my grand daughter...

On the way home I was bumbling along minding my own business when a green Kawi went flying by me..I hesitated then said "what the hay" and took off after him...I caught up and could have passed him at any time but held back staying behind as we were approaching traffic...

We came to a set of lights and I noticed it was a ZX9R. The rider said "I have never seen anything come up behind me like that in my mirrors before" I said "I wasn't near being topped out, I think I was in 5th gear and not anywhere near red line"

I wasn't tucked or anything and I really noticed my helmet doesn't react well at speed...it kind of shimmies from turbulence....I will have to go out on a special road I know and try it out tucked...I suspect the big air intake on the top of the helmet is causing turbulence..

I know they are not joined though. But they sound the same and share the same accent... :poke:

....and now imagine it would have been 4 am in the morning and your helmet flew off your head... same time a semi crossed the road in front of you and you were about 100 ft away from hitting a solid brick wall.
What would you have done?
