Why no help?

Man, there must be a WHOLE LOT of crackheads down there.

You ever been to New Orleans?

Let's just say...it ain't rare.
No, always heard it was a hole.....never felt the need to visit.

It seems obvious to me that most of what I had heard was the truth.

thats not true. but when you put it like that, how can someone not think your racist? hmm?
Can you point out what he said that is considered racist?
You seem to think along the same lines as I do, but since I didn't put is so nicely and most everybody knows I'm white, I'm considered a racist.
Not just my opinion, but anytime somebody just comes out and says "**people think I'm racist**" that is an indication of their racist thinking..........................

The only reason that was said is because someone on the board accused me of it. Anyone that knows me knows I'm not a racist.

I think he may have said that because I said that I was getting tired of hearing the cry of racism whenever a black man is in a bad situation.

I didn't read all the posts in this thread. But I felt I would add my comment.

When I first heard about Katrina. I did not give it a second thought. Heck east coast gets nailed with bad hurricanes and storms all the time. I was in Beaufort South Carolina when Hurricane Hugo came through.

I remember everyone making a big deal out of it, looked like my condo in Port Royal would end up being flooded to my second floor. Grabbed the wife, the cats (left the fish, figure flooding wouldn’t hurt them much) and head out of dodge.

Hugo came and left, went back to port royal, no damage.

Yeah I think there was some damage in Charleston. Etc.

My point is, I don’t ever in my life ever remember anything happening like this on this large of a scale.

I did not take Katrina Seriously until last week, I was at work and our admin department had the news on showing all the devastation and I was like DAMN!!!!!

And then I think it was just yesterday I was looking at pictures of the Area and seeing for the first time how the entire area is under water, and entire fricken city submerged!!!!

I am 43 years old and have NEVER seen something like that here in the United States!!!

I live in California and for me, I am thinking that something like this disaster is really incomprehensible by most people unless they are living through it now or have lived through something similar.

This shid just doesn’t happen in the United States on this magnitude.

Until now

And like I read in some of the previous posts. Unless you are prepared and have pre planned for a disaster of this size, it takes awhile to get things together.

You cant just crap busses out of your but, you need to find companies that will pony them up for you and companies are looking at the bottom dollar, if they send this many buses to take care of this disaster, they will be losing money in their normal business.

Not saying this is right or wrong, and not saying companies didn’t and wont do it. But I am sure they have to think about it, discuss it and get approval from those in the company that have the power.

And who in the he11 would have ever thought that fricken UNITED STATES CITIZENS would start raping and murdering each other and shooting at emergency crews?

What kind of crap is that? Any mfers that are shooting at emergency crews and raping people and killing people, they deserve to fricken die.

Ok, I can understand taking food from a grocery store. But how does raping someone solve the problem? How does killing someone solve the problem?

Sorry y'all, but if I am going in to offer help and support to people and I start receiving ground fire from someone and I was not expecting it nor trained for it nor equipped to deal with it, I am out of there until it gets under control.

Bottom line is there is a lot of arm chair quarterbacking going on from both sides. And we just need to stop trying to place blame and just fix the problem.

Get er done.

Guys............Solidad Obrien and the network she works for would sell their soles to make the Bush admininstration look bad.  That's an excellent example of left wing media CRAP!!

The invasion of Iraq wasn't planned in 3 days. Give me a break!!

I have customers that are in LE,  military and the reserves, they were moving before the storm hit.

It's a catastrophe, things of this magnitude take time.  Reconize the left wing media BS!
Ditto.

I made a few comments about the looting in N.O. and was very quickly accused of being a racist. I told the person in a PM that I have been color blind all my life in spite of growing up in the Deep South. No matter what color you are when you are born, what matters to me is what you make of yourself and your life. Overcome whatever gets in your way and make it on your own. Stop blaming your lack of education or experience or morals on everyone else. Minorities and low income people have many programs that will give them training and college. So there are no excuses. Except being lazy or lack of motivation.

I don't see it as a race issue but i'm sure alot of people do . I would consider it a poverty issue. I do believe that if they were rich people they would be a little  bigger priority.
Do you think rich people would be in that situation??
They wouldn't have risked staying in town.

I think in my opinion Bush dropped the ball on this.  I ultimately believe that Bush should bare the responsibility with the mess-ups down there, along with the rest of the government.
So you think the gov was the ONLY ones who knew the hurricane was coming?? Maybe they kept it a secret, or better yet used satellites to strengthen the hurricane...

The people who live there knew for YEARS that this was coming. They were rolling the dice.

The mayors of New Orleans knew for YEARS that this was coming. They also rolled the dice.

The govenors of LA knew for YEARS that this was coming. Also giving the dice a toss.

And you want to blame only Bush!! What about Clinton?? Bush senior?? And all the previous Presidents??

They all rolled the dice and lost...

Is anyone better off than they were before this moron took office? I'm not thats for sure (and I wasnt a clinton fan). Everything this guy has done hes screwed up and for the first time in my life, I'm embarassed by my president.

Frist let me say I am not defending Bush, I am just responding to this sentence.

Really, everything??
He sure has a lot of money...
He was voted as Pres. of US twice...

everything...

Its statements like this I really disslike  You are EXAGERATING.  Not telling the truth.

Sounds like the news channel...

Next time say, "I think Bush really messed up with the way he handled Katrina"  "I think Bush really messed up with Iraq"

Didn't mean to be harsh...

If you're talking about President Bush, then yes, I am better off.

I don't think it had anything to do with him being president just as those not doing as well can't all blame it on the President, those of you blaming everything on the President obviously have a preconcieved hate for him which makes your comments worthless to the rest of us.

When a natural disaster like this hits you are on your own.
If there's a group of people all in one place you are collectively on your own. People in other areas banded together and helped each other without waiting for help to come. We should learn a lesson from this. You're going to be on your own for a couple of days, be ready to do what you need to do to survive, and help others. If the "big one" hits out here, I'll be walking down to the drugstore to get my Diabetic meds, some food and water and orgainizing with my neighbors to help each other.

And who in the he11 would have ever thought that fricken UNITED STATES CITIZENS would start raping and murdering each other and shooting at emergency crews?
What I'm about to say I don't intend as cruel, but, for a 43 year old man who seems to have been around the block more than a few times I find it hard to believe you're painting yourself as so naive...

Go to any ghetto, or any major inner city, under an emergency situation or not, and you'll see one in the same. Absolute human garbage. It isn't a black, white, yellow, brown, red or poverty thing and it isn't the situation driving their actions, it's truly what they are.

A friend of mine spent time in Somalia. He said he'd rather go back to Somalia and deal with the sammies than to Troop in any major city in the US under an emergency declaration.

Disheartening.

in this situation, the worst of the worst are left behind, and it's unfortunate that regular folk get stuck with them. bad things happen just like everyday life, but more extreme because the odds are in their favor.

I consider myself someone who would help others out AND provide for myself vice kill someone to take what they have.

And yes I am 43, left home when I was 15, I have slept in busses as a teenager, joined the Corps when I was 21, served 10 years in the corps, been over seas. Have slept in deserts with heat and scorpions, have been in South Korea in the winter sleeping in tents When it was in the single digits outside and having to wall a mile to the shower tents in below freezing weather just to take a fricken cold shower.

I consider myself someone who HAS and WILL to the best of my ability put others security and well being before my own when needed.

I work with the military now and have for 8 years as a civilian and 10 years before that as a Marine, Most of my friends are either in the military or law enforcement.

I am surrounded by class act people that by all accounts do on a daily basis put others before themselves.

So go ahead and call me naïve, because you are right. I guess I don’t associate with scumbags like those who are raping people and killing for survival.

If that is being naïve then I guess I would have to be proud of it.

Guess that was one reason I stopped bounty hunting. In order to track down killers and drug dealers and other freaks I had to become friends with their friends and just kind of felt dirty after awhile so I had to get out of it.

Kill em all and let God sort them out.

Great story about the resiliency (and humanity) of some of the people in the French Quarter, and how various people came together to form "tribes". In the midst of all of the looting and crap of that nature, this is a nice break.

Hold on now, don't misunderstand me. I'm not calling you naive because I know better. I don't know your complete bio, of course, but I've read enough of your experiences here in the forum to know you've been around the block more than a time or two. I said I couldn't believe you were painting yourself as so naive.

Being as you've worked in bail enforcement and have friends who are LEOs I know that you know what I mean by 'human garbage'.

As long as we're clear on the distinction, it's good.

Poor people suffering is HILARIOUS!!!

Apparently, the First Grandmother thinks this whole Katrina thing is pretty funny, and a situation ripe joking....

http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp....1054719

NEW YORK Accompanying her husband, former President George H.W.Bush, on a tour of hurricane relief centers in Houston, Barbara Bush said today, referring to the poor who had lost everything back home and evacuated, "This is working very well for them."

...

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: "Almost everyone I’ve talked to wants to move to Houston."

Then she added: "What I’m hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed with the hospitality.

"And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (she chuckled)--this is working very well for them."
I suppose that I was foolish for thinking that this was one place where rasit points of view were not expressed.
So, which are the racist views? Is any talk about a group of people where the majority is black a racist discussion just because the people discussing it are not black?
Here's an example of what I meant by racist. Your response about how tired you are of black people blaming things on being black is blatantly racist. If what you think is racist, then saying what you think is indeed racism.
