wingmen that quit riding

I think there's people that get into hobbies half heartedly and after awhile when the novelty wears off they move on to something else. No big thing as they were never real riders to start with.(real being that they live and breathe bikes). I'm into bikes but over the last 4 years my riding tastes have done a 180. I used to be a bigtime corner carver with trackday aspirations, but as i've gotten a few years older i've slowed alittle and the thought of trackdays have faded a bit. Enough that i went more for the bling/show side of motorcycles.
I didn't slow for any reason, it just happened naturally. I am old enough(34) to have self control and i maybe ride 10 over the speed limit.  I ride, have fun and do what i want.
Of course there's times when you just need to burn out rather than fade away. (Thanks Def Leopard)
Sometimes we all get so tied up into something that we should hit the bench and take a breather.

I just sold my busa. Unfortunately there are just too many hazards out there. The cops have it in for sportbikers. It got to be too many risks out there for me. Like Revils said, i'll stick to the car. At least for a while.

(tourbus @ Jan. 02 2007,13:53) just read revlis's reply & everybody has opinions but a car doesnt even come close to riding a bike, if you think a care is more fun i would deffinatly sell the bike then.

Yeah Everyone has opinions...

Get the right car, and you'd be amazed.

A few of my friends went to cruisers and some even opted for those 80mph scooters. You just never know what going through a persons head.

I've been riding now for 18 yrs. and I too have thought of giving it up. I'm married now with three great kids and a wonderful wife and I would hate to get arrested for speeding at this point in my career. I would definitely lose my job and then the house and then probably the family I don't know but in any case that's why riding is no longer fun for me cause I'm always worried about the POLICE you know what I mean guys, it's hard to do the speed limit when you're out riding.

This is probably going to sound corney but I'll be 60 in July, (man I can't beleave it, time flys when you're haveing fun), but except for the year I was in Viet Nam, I've always wanted to ride. There have been a lot of times when my only transportation was a bike. At this point, I still love to ride as much as ever. Personally I love the long trips and the twisties, and soon the track. Used to ride to work everyday, hot or cold. Now I generally take the PU in the winter. Hot coffee and heater. But I still get out and ride on the weekends and I try to ride to work spring, summer and fall. I've never really thought about not riding. For some though, I guess there comes a time. I'm hoping I can ride for at least another 10 years. But unfortunately my time will come too. I probably won't want to quit riding, but I probably won't have a choice whenever that time comes.

I have rode over 40 years. There were a few periods when I did not have a bike, but I have had one for the most part since I was 16. I like to go fast as much as the next guy, but riding for me is stress reliever. If you are riding a bike the way you should, you need to be concentrating 100% on what your doing. No time to think about sales quotas, your azzhat boss, problems in your relationships etc. For me I don't golf anymore, fish, race cars, restore cars, play in bands. I ride for relaxation. The other thing I love about riding and the busa in particular is the people I meet and the friendships I have made. Although I'm on the older side of most people on the org, I'm young at heart and I find I enjoy being around younger people more than people of my own age or older. I have met some great guys on this site, many the same age as my sons, and without the busa as a common interest, we would have not become friends. If you find that you are taking risks that you know you should not take, it may be good to give up riding before you hurt yourself or others, if you do not have the maturity to correct it. I hope the day never comes when I don't enjoy riding anymore. Just my $.02

All i hear is people worried about the cops.........Can't we all just ride normal?
You don't have to do 120mph when you ride, you don't have to race anyone, you don't have to stunt. You can just ride around.

Just ride normal.  It's easy, i do it all the time with occasional burst of speed.

As far as cars and other road hazards are concerned, these are not new things. They were present before you bought your bike and will be there after you sell it.  Just ride and be smart, i don't see what the big deal is?

While the track is a bit safer without cars and other things, there are still alot of hazards to deal with there so it's not all that safe. Plus it promotes you to run your bike and skill level at a high rate. Is this safer? It's all relative to what you concieve as a safe practice.

At 51 years young there has been times in my life when I just didn't have a bike. Not that I didn't want one just didn't have one. Usually because of a Military commitment overseas......I think riding is either in your soul or it's not..sport, cruiser, whatever..I choose to ride a busa knowing the risk of riding a bike..I just love it

From when i was a little kid back in the late 70's & 80's there was nothing more fun than my dad taking me for ride's on his gs1100l,then when i got my learners permit in high school i went out & bought my 1st streetbike (1978 400 honda hawk) it also brought me great enjoyment, now im 31yrs old, been riding street for 17yrs i still get as excited as a kid waiting for x-mas morning to go riding with my dad & friends. ya i know there are dangers out there, but damn it there are dangers in everyday living. All it takes is a little self control and respect of the machines we ride, its that simple. I can say that i will never quit riding, now whats that weather report for the weekend

mofuggahere, you dont have to tell me about close calls i have them all the time with vehicles, infact i have hit the asphalt do to a truck that turned left in front of me (oct 1995) i have also been ass ended by another motorcyle. i treat every ride as if im invisible,& i always think of the worse case senerio when riding among traffic but hey **** happens. mouggahere, should'nt you be with revlis on a car enthusiast site talking about how safe motoring is or something. just a side note also, i truely enjoy the people who tell me motorcycling is dangerous while they are smoking there ciggarette

I agree with Rev on the car thing - having one that corners makes general driving a LOT MORE FUN! I have the same dilemma on nice days - car or bike. Glad I live in a country that allows me to have such tough decisions

Everybody's different, yet we all share the same experience of life. Yet most of us here have Busa's - but Busa riders come and go. It's not a negative reflection on them in the least - just another part of living in a diverse world. I'll take that variety over lack of, please

And REV, when did you get 600,000 posts? I smell some tom foolery here!

Close calls with vehicles running you down. May change your  opinion here. Maybe not
I've had more than my share of close calls. It goes with the territory of riding a streetbike. I accept that.

Take a break after a near death experience? I've done it. Moments like that make you think hard, but i always get back in the saddle.

Quit riding because of it? No way.

I'm fortunate in that all those I ride with still love riding...we've lost a close relative to a very unfortunate, completely unavoidable accident and I'll admit, it had the hubby and I wondering if we should still ride...he'd love to know we're still riding, and we love it, so we still do...

Mike was talking about giving it up a year or so ago...not sure where that came from and I was worried he would sell his Harley, but he opted to upgrade to a larger bike and is still an avid rider...I can see why so many opt to get out of the hobby/sport, but I'm not there...

My father had bikes from when I was a kid up top about 10 years ago. I guess he just lost his confidence. I rode his Goldwing for almost a year until he sold it. So to answer your question yes.
