Purchased by my grandfather in 1962, used by him and then by my dad. I got it in 1999 with 62000 kms on the odo. Until I found out that the old one had been "turned over" at 1,00,000 kms.
Jaeger odo/speedo on this bike would not run more than 1,00,000 kms and the unit would have to be returned to the DMV for entry into the vehicles history
Yes I still have this bike in India. Recently spent $200.00 on it for complete dis-assembly, painting, chroming, silicon carbide coating on all engine internals, valve replacement, rings replacement and re-assembly
Bike still runs like new and has the same performance figures as it had when it was brand new. AMAZING bike for the money.
You can find 1980s models (the last of the genuine Royal Enfield Bullets before cost-cutting cut into quality) for around $300.00 - $500.00 in India. New ones retail for $2000.00.
1962 model

4 Stroke
1 Cylinder
Carbueretted (Amal)
Front brakes - Drum - never worked
Rear brakes - Drum - the only way to stop this bike
Gears - 4
Shift Pattern - 1 up and 3 down. Discrete neutral return lever (hit this lever to return to neutral from ANY gear).
NOTE: Gear shift lever is on the right side and rear-brake lever is on the left side LOL

Dont mind the oil stains under the bike. These old single cylinder big-bore thumpers were notorious for their high tolerance engineering. Seals would break down on a regular basis and everything was just-so. Very reliable bike though...just top-off all fluid reservoirs every month or so and the bike will keep rumbling along without complaints.
6V electrics from the 60s means that night-riding is a bit of a pain.
