2021 Pashnit Touring on a Hayabusa

Why do you ride up dead-end paved mountain roads?

To see what's at the end.

Highway 36 is a very long road. My write-up broke the 140-mile length down into several chapters. The ride from Highway 3 to Wildwood is one of the most energetic. Lots of new repaving and attempted road straightening. Ironically, the road straightening made the road even more knee drag faster as the original footprint was retained, but the road bed was rebuilt and the pavement is all new. This section bumps over 5000 feet and is very fast.

I considered heading to the Natural Bridge we visited a short time ago along Wildwood Rd, but we skipped it. Next time.

Smaller group. We lost two on this ride, as Luc & Phil opted to ride a different route, and headed off to ride a longer 350-mile loop. They wanted to ride Highway 96 and the Forks of Salmon and a stretch of road we call The Racetrack from Cecilville to Callahan at Highway 3.

We already rode The Racetrack earlier in the season, so we opted to meet up with the guys later

Highway 3 Hayfork Pass is a low 3645 ft pass that all motorcyclist's love. It's knee-drag twisty up and twisty down. A decade ago, anytime I needed some action photography, this was the place to come to get the shots. Wide open views and lots of run-off.

It all leads to Weaverville. 17 years ago we used to go to a place called The Sawmill for good eats. Seeing as how there's a lumber mill across the street, that seems fitting.

The place was closed for many years, a vacant building. But it's experiencing a huge revival. Place seems busy all the time. And they have my favorite Root Beer.

It's called Tangle Blue, which is a mountain lake north of Weaverville.

We were here a couple weeks ago at this same overlook, and the smoke was so bad, we couldn't see anything. Good news, smoke is not there anymore.

No smoke, or rather it's not as bad

No water in Trinity Lake, but one thing at a time.
