BEEN RIDING ON THE AUTOBAHN OR ANY OTHER NO-SPEED-LIMIT ZONE?

IANFILA, I was trying to make a little joke about viol8r's very precise (i.e. 30 thou) correction of your speedometer observation.

Guess the joke was a little obscure, or convoluted, or dumb, or off-color, or...

I can understand how you would feel if you hadn't percieved it to be an attempt at a joke!

KILL THAT DIRTY PETE!

ianfila: I find the bits of yellow tape on the speedo are easier to ID at a glance than the red line marking on the tach.

Importantly, if you use the tape trick, you will know what gear you're in each time you shift.

If you're speedo needle is approaching the third yellow marker at high revs, then you know you're about to shift from third into fourth.

Knowing what gear you're in is useful information on the track because then you can replicate gear use patterns lap after lap.

This trick only works when you're winding the engine up near peak horsepower on every shift.

I took a trip to Montanna back in May of '99 and at that time there was no speed limit per se. The law stated, in effect, the limit to be reasonable for ability and conditions.

That changed when and ex professional race car driver took his speed machine out on the Montana Interstate and clocked about 180MPH. He was ticketed and stated, in court, that because of his training, road conditions, and vehichle setup he was improperly ticketed. He won in State Supreme Court I believe.

Because of this the law was changed to 75MPH statewide. You can look it up if you would like. The story may not be exact but the reason for the change and the speed limit are fact. Since about '95, or maybe earlier, there were no speed limit signs on the Interstate. They are there now.

Been there , done that .
( awwgghhh this phrase is old but never the less true )
Been in Germany several times but I find Authobahns boring........Only thing to do is nail the trottle and no fear of cops ( god must hate us Busa fans for giving us Cops, but he didnt hate us so much that he stopped us from having our busas :) ).
In the Isle of Man on the other hand........Utside the villages of the Isle of Man there are no speed limits. Imagine those tiny roads and no cops who are trying to rip your hart out for just a little speeding.. I must say that going to the island was the best thing I have ever done on a Motorcycle ( no I havent tried having sex on one ( Wanna try A.Seeling ? heheh )).
( maybye the last trip to Sweden where I managed to drive at an average speed of 198 kmh (123 mph ) for about 300 km(186 miles )that was kinda fun too. Oh yeah the speed limit was 110 kmh ( 68 mph )
