Bentvalve down, car turned in front of him,

I visited last night. His new roomie is Elton, a guy who went down on Kent / Des Moines Rd (local road here in a surrounding city of Seattle). It was too wierd having both of those riders in one room, both strapped down, both going through head injury phases.

James is strapped back down. He totally chewed off the thumb portion of his cast. He will be getting a new cast today. He was "grumpy" the whole time I was there and had quite a colorful vocabulary. The only nice thing he said was "please" as he was asking me to unstrap his arm but when I said no he told me to leave because I wasn't doing him any good time good. They had even tried to put a big padded mitten on his hand to keep him from chewing on the cast... didn't work.

I'm sure the nurses are having fun... James and his roommate hit that call button constantly.
OK maybe it's time to start sending his Nurses emails and Get well cards...

Being Surly is good though, a positive sign.

James' humor is quite funny. Last night, as soon as I walked in, in the middle of his nurse feeding him... he looks at me and says, "hey you, why don't you go #### yourself?" I said excuse me... "go #### yourself" then he laughed quite a bit at my reaction. But 10/15 minutes later he didn't even realize I had been there and said, "hey, i was hoping you'd stop by and spend some time with me" then he wanted a kiss... I brushed it off and went along.

James is on pain medication now which is effecting his alertness. James had a new (3rd one) cast put on yesterday. He chewed the 2nd one. From when he was chewing on the first one... when his thumb was finally exposed and he chewed on it, he infected the incision area. Infected so much that they had to hook-up IV's for the antibiotics. But they made the mistake of puting the IV in his left arm... you guessed it, he chewed on it too... the IV is now in the right arm. The infection made his thumb hurt enough that he finally asked for pain medication. It must be some good stuff...

Glad he's doing better.

Sounds like they need to get him a steel cast!

He's definitely improving. We may need to get him a muzzle next.

I'll fess up. I made one of his nurses get all teary. I thanked them for everything they do for their patients. I asked that she pass on the gratitude from Hayabusa.org, and PNWRiders. I know it's really a thankless job. They really need to hear that they are appreciated.

They don't hear it enough! I think I made her day.

I'll be going down to visit James this afternoon. I've been talking to him about bike shopping. Last week he was still trying to sell me his K6. He just doesn't believe it's wrecked yet. It may be time to show him those pics.

Doug

Hey Doug,  the other night, I passed on your comment to one of the nurses about sending them get well cards and emails... she laughed and agreed.

I don't think showing him pics will do much good.  We have told him countless times about the wreck and the condition of the bike but he still forgets.  I think as time progresses and he remembers more, the pics should be shown.

Or better yet, who ever has the pics, should print them out... so that way, even if a visitor is not there to show them to him, he will have a reminder for when he forgets.  I know the nurses show him the pics that have been put up and ask him questions about who is in the pics.

thanks for the great updates.

Were the pics posted here?
Which pics? Pics of the accident? No, they are not posted here. There is only one pic posted up on PNWriders... of the pieces picked up after the accident. I'll copy that pic over here. There was a decision by the guy who has pics of the scene not to post them do to the investigation and waiting for James to say ok and understand what he's agreeing to.

Thanks whitefire.

Can he see the pics we post here? Or how should we send them?

So everyone knows I sent paypal to a board member here that is in direct contact with James and his situation. There was almost 2k in donations and it appears that money may be used to pay rent or other needed bills. The person that I sent the money to is a longstanding member of the site and I trust them unconditionally. They will be setting a bank account up so that the money can only be taken out at james' request.....

Once again, way to go hayabusa.org
