Bought the 14R, still have the busa

Absoloutely!
As many dumbasses who have nearly hit me when I'm riding, and many who never looked up from their phones to even realize it.
I've been street riding since the mid 90's, and smartphones didn't really become the norm until about 15 years ago, at least in terms of almost everyone having one, and a generation of idiots who grew up with their faces glued to them.
Street riding before cell phones was much better, with far fewer distracted drivers.
I also got my Class A CDL and started driving tractor trailers in 2006, through 2015, and the huge increase in cell phone useage while driving was easy to see, and quite literally too, as unless the car windows are black, you can see the phones in most people's hands directly, or in their mirrors, from being in a higher position in the seat of the big truck.
It also took the enjoyment away from driving trucks for me, as I was literally dodging idiots daily, and as a truck-driver, you are guilty until proven innocent in any incident or accident.
Virginia also passed a 'hands free' law over a year and a half ago, where you cannot text and drive, or hold a phone for a conversation, it must be voice activated only through the vehicle.
I had high hopes for this...but it's pathetic.
9 out of 10 cops that I pass, town, county sheriff, state, doesn't matter...THEY're on the phone! Wth?!
There can be no real enforcement or at least consequences for this either, as I see the same amount of people on their phones driving daily.
I never use my phone when I'm driving, and the rare time it rings when I am, I can push a button on the steering wheel and answer it...but I usually ignore it.
It makes me angry just thinking about it.
I was just talking to a guy at work who used be a truck driver and he said all the same things about being able to see people including cops on their phone while driving.

I love the color and would strongly consider another Kawi as well if I ever seek again. How's that bike run temp wise? I remember my 97 Zx11 was a 'shinbone' fryer model. When the fans kicked on it would literally fry your legs. That's why I went with the 09 Busa. It was sooo much cooler riding. Have they improved things?
The heat is ok but I've only done highway rides where the heat is less noticeable. I don't think the heat has changed much from the Gen1 ZX-14 but I believe the Gen2 has two radiator fans instead of just one. I agree, the busa makes less heat. Yeah, the Gen1 ZX-14 cooked your shins when you were at a stop. A full system exhausts helps noticeably and you can see the difference on the engine temp gauge. The temp gauge had 6 bars and mine ran a full bar cooler after the exhaust. It rarely got up to 4 bars. The Gen2 has a digital display of the numeric temperature and I was quite alarmed at how hot it got. I don't remember the exact temp but I think it was over 212 F. That's with stock exhaust though and brand new. I don't remeber the exact number but I do remember being alarmed. I got that bike moving through the air as quick as possible.

I'd love to know what those cannons of an exhaust weighs?
I'll be finding out soon. My Gen1 ZX-14 mufflers weighed 14 lb, 2.5 oz left muffler, 14 lb, 4 oz right muffler and 10 lb, 12.9 oz for the header. The Gen2 busa left muffler was 15 lb, 13.7 oz, right muffler 15 lb, 10.7 oz and header was 15 lb, 5.3 oz. The Gen2 ZX-14R exhaust is probably similar in weight to the Gen2 Hayabusa. You can see they kind of borrowed from the look of the Gen2 Hayabusa mufflers, I wouldn't doubt if they're similar in construction. The header on the 14R looks the same as the Gen1 but I won't be surprised if it significantly heavier.

Yep, and driving my pickup I still see the cops daily holding their phones on the steering wheel, or to their ear.
And 'trained drivers' my ass.
I personally have met a few cops, and have seen first hand that they have no business behind a steering wheel, and I wonder how they ever passed their driving school.
Driving is like most things, it's something that you're either good at, or you're not, no matter what.
I really wish there would be a big crackdown on using cell phones while driving, for Everyone.
Even motorcycles, as the majority of them that I see anymore All have phone mounts on the bars.
My friend's '18 Gsxr1k has one, and the only times I've ever used it is so that I could stop, grab my phone without taking a glove off to be able to get it out of a jacket pocket, take a picture, and go right back to riding.
I like my phone too, just not when driving or riding, and I think it's sad how many people cannot disconnect from it.
Last summer, on a saturday afternoon,
I had a kid(looked late teens, early 20's) come over the line on an F250 work truck, and his mirror smacked mine, F150.
I had the wife and kids with me.
He was looking straight down on the phone.
I turned around and went after him, and he pulled into a driveway of an empty house.
My wife thought I was going to kill him.
I yelled as I got out to "Get off the F***in' phone!!!"
He looked absoloutely terrified, was shaking, and apologized.
I calmed down, explained to him that he could've killed himself and us in a head-on collision.
He said he was just texting his boss, to which I told him in future to pull over somewhere.
I think he realized that his job and driving record were in big trouble, as my mirror was(still is) scraped up, and it broke the flood light on the underside as my mirror smacked the window.
I told him not to worry about it, to thank God it wasn't worse, and to take note to stop texting and driving.
I didn't call the cops(I don't do that, lol)
and went on my way.
Monday morning on the highway on my way to work; who do I pass?
Yep, same guy, head down, on the phone.
I rode right beside him for over a mile, constantly looking over at him.
It was clear he caught a glimpse of me in his peripheral view, and would not look over at me.
He also continued to stare down at his phone, and swerve back and forth.
Had he hit me, I would have pushed him off of the road.
In hindsight, I should have beaten ass and left him laying, and called the cops and told them he got smartmouthed and swung at me.
I have zero use for uncaring, selfish, disrepectful and just plain stupid people...and this young generation is full of them.
Rant over

@sixpack577 when you look at the whole group of kids today, there is a general tendency for them to lack respect for grownups. I think they believe their abilities are equal to or greater than adults. I blame this mostly on technology. LOL I once had a kid argue with me while searching the internet for "facts." There are still a lot of really great young people who appreciate that all they know comes from the older people around them. This gives me hope for tomorrow and I mean "tomorrow"after I'm gone.

I agree, and yes, I am fortunate to know several really smart teenagers and young adults, who have respect, common sense, and a good attitude...they are just unfortunately the minority in society anymore.

After little poking around, I found the 2025 Hayabusa to cost $25k Cdn retail and a 2026 ZX14R Limited to cost $21K Cdn retail.....then you add all the taxes and other costs of course and there's no bargaining...

A few years ago the price difference was reversed with the ZX14R being more expensive.....

How times have changed...
2019 I paid 13k brand new out the door for a Brand new Hayabusa. That's 12k more now....wow!

Back when owning a 'Busa was just a dream, my eye may have wandered...

Oddly it was that last image that ended up costing the most...

The smaller CC bikes are the real sellers and that's where manufacturers spend their time on which makes sense.

That being said, we had better enjoy our large beasties while we can still get them.....
We'll always be able to get them, older ones, sold with few miles on them. There are quite a few late Gen-II's for sale down here in Australia, a lot of people buy them and just can't handle them I think? I'll swap mine out when they have 100,000 on the clock :)

There are a few used ones for sale here as well but the sellers seem to think they are made of unobtainium as they are priced high yet sit on the for sale site forever it seems..

The ad will stay up for 30 days and I've seen the same few bikes on there for a long time.....there's one from the summer and it only drops in price at small increments.

Hayabusas are a hard sell for the most part.....maybe more so here as our riding season is so short.

I've notice that the Gen 3 Hayabusa is not holding its value very well. Basically a used Gen 2 and a used Gen 3 are basically around the same price. Obviously depending on miles.

Oh yes, they want "new" prices for them, like the prices they sold for 6 and 7 years ago. I paid 18,000 aussie for my red and white one which was what they sold for back new, but I did get $2500 of Yoshimura pipes and the double bubble screen. I suppose when you factor in inflation over the 6 years that's ok. people forget about that rampant inflation we live with. Seems like Brazil some days.

Here's an older one with the same km's on it going for 13,000 (Australian)

It's a bit rough around the edges though and has clearly been over on it's side and not fully repaired. I wouldn't buy it unless I was desperate. There are better examples out there.

When a person goes out shopping for a Hayabusa, the main concern is "how fast it can go." I'll also bet most owners never go that fast but they want to know it could go that fast. If Suzuki listened to previous owners who said they want more bottom end, I think they forgot those owners were already owners. They're not going to buy the bike if it's not at least as fast as the previous gen on top. Plain and simple, Suzuki made the Gen3 a beautiful slower bike that everyone expected to be faster than any other. Anticlimax. Wouldn't it be amazing if they made a Gen4 that could top out at 200 mph stock? I'd buy that. It isn't even that much to ask because the Gen2 with a few mods and derestricted should top out at at least 190. ....not that most owners are going to ever do that but don't you want to know your bike can do that if you paid all that money for it? I make an appeal to Suzuki.....please make a Hayabusa that at least equals the ZX-14R in top speed. There is no point in trying to compete with any other bike, the 14R is your only competition and you let Kaw put the jump on you twice. I'm not even sure you're positioned to keep ahead of them now. You voluntarily took second place.

I'd like to see a stock Gen 3 and stock ZX14R have a run together.....

From all accounts the Gen 3 has a stronger mid range and although it lacks on top, I'd wager it would be out front first.

The aftermarket would make the difference most likely.
