Honestly, just how bad are the cops at the Gap? Are they cool if you act normal or are they out for blood?

How far is Pigeon Forge from the Philliips? I want to hit up the Huck Finns when i'm down there sometime. They've got some killer Catfish on the menu.

From what I've seen and heard in recent years, their heaviest enforcement presence is on weekends, and/or after a bad wreck(s), and also when they hear about a big car or bike event in the area. A lot of bike tickets are written for "crossing the center line". There's always a cop or two in the area but they can't be everywhere at once. I don't think they are out for blood at all but rather target the squids that are present in most bike crowds. They know that much of the local economy is dependent upon Dragon visitors.

It's about 85 miles via Cherokee/Gatlinburg. It might be shorter via the Dragon and Townsend, TN. Check Mapquest to be sure.

The best time to ride the Gap is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Normally, as WB said, enforcement is a knee jerk reaction. With larger rallies threre you might see increased enforcement or after a string of accidents.

For my friends that have already been this year, the LE presence has not been heavy. There are some place you do not wanna speed/cross the center line.

1. From Robbinsville to the Gap, there are several straights that are oh so inviting, must....resist.....the temptation...

2. This one is for you guys coming down the Great Smokey Mountain Express way from the Waynesville/Cherokee area. This road is heavily enforced all the way to bottom of the mountain. Watch your speed carefully here.

3. 28 to Fontanna village. This road is a little less patrolled that the GSM Expressway. I recieved a warning ticked here on this road.

4. On the TN side of the GAP at the bottom there are more looooong straights and very smooth pavement. Blount County Deputys can always be found here.

Overall the Gap and surrounding roads are not heavily patrolled. Just use a little common sence and pick your places to act like a hooligan.

so has anyone noticed that the 10day prediction is rain on thurs/friday?

Dont put any faith in a 10 day forecast. The weather here in the mountains will change on the hour ever hour.

Hey GMbusa, I should know tomorrow if I am 100% in for the lines/pads deal. Will give you a call @ the number you PM'd me if its ok tomorrow afternoon?

Don't know if I posted the link or not but I'm still going to be there on the noted date. I picked up an Aerostitch suit to be more visible.

See you there (one more day and I'm on vacation, woot!)

we'll be lookin for ya. I'm going to draw up some maps and stuff to leave at the Phillips Motel and CROT for anyone that wants to join us and is running late. I'll post some info here for eveyone to comment on, as well as some "general" times that I think we could stick to pretty easily. That way if folks want to do their own thing (ie sleep in) they can just grap a map and meet us at some point on the route.

Are we still thinking about trying to head over to Hooters for lunch on Friday or Sat? If so, can someone please post the address.... or at least the town its in?

Sounds good to me. I think it is Hooter's Of Alcoa located in Maryville, TN.

Wow! And I thought "I" was organized...! I want to shake your hand when you get to the Dragon. Awesome planning. I hope the weather and wacko-drivers cooperate with your objectives. I'm envious.

Well, I should be easy to find

The planning pages are just compilations of previous planning. One of the biggest issues when doing a long distance ride is propper planning. I figure I have it all worked out. As long as the weather cooperates (I'm hearing that there may be snow going over the Rockies, crosses-fingers), I should be able to complete this handily. Snow might shorten the trip to a straight run south to 10 and then east and going for my BB2000. And completing the trip will get a BB3000 (gotta print more docs).

In any case, I'll certainly be at the gap.

k, I'll get some maps done in the GPS software and post some of them with a suggested time line. If everyone approves, I'll make copies that we can each have and leave some at phillips and crot for anyone that wants to find us. Of course that means we'll have to try and stick to the schedule as best as possible

I have a Garmin GPS so I can save the route and post it for anyone else that uses the same stuff if you want
