Career Choice and the Busa

My female chirpractor is a Harely biker...

And I know some of the biker rallys we've gone to.. those guys in the black leathers and ponytails were doctors and lawyers. That's really the majority of people that can AFFORD to buy a Harley.

Me = IT Manager... If I went by the stereo type of my profession, I'd be camped out somewhere waiting for the new Star Wars movie tickets while watching anime' porn on my PDA.

Do what makes you happy! (as long as it's legal)

BS

i know so many docs/nurses that ride I can't even begin to count them all.....I've heard the BS about "organ donors" as well.....they are usually referring to the idiotic hardley riders that drink a case of beer at each of the 10 bars they hit on bike night.

I'm a classical pianist and teach piano. Ride my bike in full leather to teach, too.

Go figure.

What you do in your spare time has nothing to do with your job or how you do it. You know the old saying, "Success is the sweetest revenge."

Ok, I have an '04 Busa (Black/Gray), it is my first bike, and I am learning to ride it. I am going to medical school and practicing in the private parking area. I am the only one in this med. school with a bike. Recently, as I was just getting the hang of the bike, a couple of students came up to me and said that bikers are not respected in the medical field. Just want to know what others think. What are the common stereotypes about bikers? P.S. my comment to the peeps was, if it is between the busa or med. school, I choose the busa (I think I lost some friends here with that comment though)!!!
My wife's a nurse and rides....most of the doctors and nurses she deals with are fat, smoke, drink,.....f them.

The docs that don't ride only see the squids donating organs. Ride but don't be a squid. BTW, why are you listening to the oppinion of "a couple of students?" They don't know any more than you do about the medical field. If you want to know about your field, talk to people who have been in the field for 10+ years. Anyway, it sounds like they have Busa envey.

I would definitely choose school over a bike. I am basing my statement on financial reasons.

As an enlisted Marine, I was the only guy riding (at the tie a Kow ZX-11) back and forth to OCS up at Quantico. Man, I caught hell from everybody. I would get all dressed up for our liberty inspection, then go back to my wall locker and don the gear. To this day, I occasionally get comments from our command about the example I set for younger Marines, especially since I am currently an instructor. My reaction? I wear gear, every time I ride, I have full coverage and I try not to ride like a complete squid. Bottom line - I think I set a pretty damn good example. Oh and I have 13 tattoos too, ask me about that example. Bottom line, screw 'em. If they make generalizations about you without regard to who you individually are, they aren't worth your time. What sort of example did you set/how did you represent the medical community before they saw you on your busa?
I agree with two previously made points:
1. I'm not sure that I would drop med school for the busa......
2. I think the anime porno on the pda comment is fully as hell!

Dude if you like riding F**K what anybody thinks or has to say especially in the medical and law fields.....A lot of rich kids who look down people. You can't navigate through life basing your decisions on what other people think.....Keep the bike and keep your career. Good Luck

the people I know that work in the ER call all bikes "Donor-cycles"

I ride because I love to. To hell with people who try to put you down for your choices. Take a look at some of their past times and you will find questionable acts for most people. We just ride ours!

The only people I know in the field both ride bikes, not sure what they are talking about. Good thing you get to pick your friends and all that counts are the grades.

Welcome to the board.

Keep in the field and make them even more jealous that you have time to ride and study!

I have worked in the medical field for 15+ years and catch hell every Monday from my bosses! They always say something like "Glad to see you made it through the weekend on your murdercycle"
However, I know of several doc's AND their wives that ride so.....just be safe....have fun... forget the comments from people who just don't know what fun they are missing!!!!
