Now let me start my first post off right.....

I KNOW JACK ABOUT BIKES!
newbie.gif

Now thats out of the way....

Ive never really thought about a getting a motorcycle too much. I think they have always scared me a bit, and ive never really been comfortable on one before. Until recently....

My buddies best man in his wedding rode down from St Augustine on his new 08 busa. I wound up driving him and his friend to the wedding, as they would be drinking and we all know thats no good if yer riding. After the wedding I take them back, and on the way bike talk initiates. I get kinda interested and say "You know ive never really felt 'right' on a bike before". And the guy with the 08 says well sit on my bike and see how you like it......bad idea. I guess his other friend saw my eyes light up or something, cause the next words out of his mouth were "Im selling mine". Great. Went and sat on his. His is streched, lower gears, lowered suspension, cams, yoshi sleeves, and a couple other little things. 03 20someK on it. Asking $6k with helmet. I sit on his bike and dont want to get up.

He starts it and needless to say i havent stopped thinking about it since. That was 2 weeks ago.

Since then ive got my permit, my buddy has been teaching me how to ride on his Honda Shadow 600, and says hes surprised how fast im picking up on it. (Right after telling me how many times hes made my mom orgasm..... i don't think hed lie to me to make me feel good.) Hopefully ill feel comfortable riding on highways by Saturday. Then ill take the busa for a test drive.

If i like it, ill buy it. I know its not a beginner bike, and i understand that i could really get hurt if i act like a jackass, but as my ID implies, ive done that already and im not about to do it again. I drive a decently quick car, and i speed from time to time(im human). My car handles extremely well and i take advantage of it (its fun)

. But i know my limits, and i never do anything like that anywhere near traffic.

More about me: Im 21, engaged, own my house in central florida, have a brand new car, and the coolest dog in the world.

Looking forward to learning a lot from here.

Generally speaking, the Busa is not a good bike for beginners.

But, there are always exceptions. IF you are more mature than your age and KNOW you not only have good judgement, but you'll use good judgement. The Busa is no problem for a beginner.

Its all in the wrist and the bike will only do what you tell it.

Now, the VAST majority of new riders are not mature enough, don't have good judgement, or don't use good judegement.

So my recommendation;

Buy a cheap 600cc or less bike for $3000 or less. That way WHEN you crash it, you don't lose a ton of money. And being the bike has a much smaller engine, odds are you won't be going insanely fast.

A SV650 is a perfect starter bike.

Honestly ive thought about that, especially since you can get a brand new one for what id pay for the busa. I am at least going to go try and take one for a test drive. I dont really think ill like it but I do think its a good idea.

Not that it matters too much, but i do plan on taking the safety course, and the current owner says that even if pegged in first gear (which i prolly wouldn't even attempt for months) it only lifts up maybe two feet.

Thanks for the Welcome.

When you mentioned the safety course, which is very good
thumb_up.gif
, it reminded me to also mention gear. Gear may seem expensive, but its worth every penny when you don't have the roadrash or worse. And is cheaper than hospital bills

Honestly i started out on a busa and i took if very easy ... granted once you get comfortable you can get cocky quickly but if YOU feel your responsible enough go for it. Also seeing as your engaged be ready to sleep on the couch for a week and be on nooky probation, thats the boat i was in when i bought mine. Until i took her for a ride and she never wanted off. Don't forget just cause its already got stuff done to it doesn't mean its gonna be cheap tires don't last worth a damn and modding the bike is addictive! So be prepared and post pics up even if you don't buy it

Yeah go ahead and buy it. You only live once. Do us a favor and attach a camera so we can see the catastrophic results.

Oh by the way what are Yoshi sleeves???

BlkDrgnZ28; The deal is if i get the bike she can drive my car to work. And ill definitely let you know if i pick her up, Daytona isn't really that far away from here.

CodyYV_13; Another upside to getting a bike. It would cost me nearly 4k to get my car around a 13.5, and the busa runs 9's already

Turbobusa2000; Cant really get my hands on a camera right now, will a mic do? His exhaust was described to me as pretty much just a set of mufflers (Yoshimura), no headers or anything like that, and the kid talking about it said they were sleeves. To reiterate, i meant Yoshi exhaust.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

If i get it, do you guys think i should take the extensions off and put it back to stock length while im learning? I was considering doing that and maybe putting the stock sprockets back on.

welcome.gif
and just be careful while learning. +1 on the gear no matter how hot it is. for me when its too hot to ride comfortably in gear i drive in a/c...

btw im glad to see another American Bulldog owner since that must be the dog you are referring when you say the coolest dog in the world
jump9.gif

well if you get it def put back to stock sprokets back on cause that will cause it to come up less, i know its extended so thats not gonna make it come up as easy but why bother while your still learning, it would make it have a lil less grunt but its not like its gonna be slow at all and as far as the extensions go i have no idea about leaving them on how its gonna ride even thought thats kinda on my to do list of mods for the future

these things dont come with a
easybutton.png
button so dont go showing off and get all messed up, Hell dont hit the throttle to hard , Please get something else besides this busa

I would like to say that I know how you feel. I never considered owning a bike when I was 21 either until I saw and sat on a busa. The busa is the whole reason I started riding. But I bought/owned/rode/sold three bikes before I bought my first busa. Even when I got the Busa I didn't think I was ready for it, I just could not pass on the deal. I have had the Busa for three years now and I love every minute of it. I am extremely happy that I bought another bike first (which I dumped twice in the first summer of owning). Even after three years of ownership I still don't think I am good enough for the busa. There are people on here that have bought a busa for there first bike and done fine, there a lot more people out there that have bought a busa or smaller (GSXR 600 even) and done horrible. Your going to do whatever you want. Just be sure to get full coverage insurance and proper gear. You say the bike is 6 g's. Well it is really 7 g's by time you buy a decent helmet, that fits properly and is not a hand me down (how valuable is your head?), jacket, gloves, boots, pants ect.... One more thing, since you say you do not know jack about bikes. I would be hesitant to by this kids bike any way. First off from what you describe this guy has a couple grand in extra's into the bike, 6 grand seams a little low. It has the potential to be a abused bike. So again you would be better off trying an SV650 for a year or two. I am just saying don't buy this bike on a whim put some real thought into this, seeing as this could be a life changing....or ending desicion. In any case with what ever you buy hang around the board, lots of good information about riding in here. There are a lot of board members here that do not own busas, and there are a lot that are like you that are on there first bike and are trying to perfect skillls to be ready for a busa. But best of luck with any of this, welcome to the board, and early congrats on your first bike. I will be the first to recommend a scorpio alarm if you buy a sport bike. Florida is bad for bike theft. When I lived there I knew a lot off people the wooke up to find there bike no longer lived at there house. Bikes taken out of sheds/garages/pad locks. One was stored in te guys living room and it was gone in the morning along with his TV.
