Cornering skill quiz?

Making sure i've chosen the correct gear prior to laying her over so that i can accelerate through the curve right at or shortly after the point of entrance..so i can "Power Through" the curve..keeping a constant roll of acceleration without upsetting the chassis/suspension...so..answer?

"Making Sure I'm In The Proper Gear"

and these days?..i like to stay a gear higher than i think..takes some of the twichyness out of all that busa torque as i roll it on.

Bill, that is a misconception that most guys have. Exiting corners agressively at midrange RPM is a sure recipe for a highside. Keep your RPM in the top 25% of it's range and you are far less likely to spin the rear out of control. If you are near the top of the RPM range the spin is much easier to manage.

I heard Rossi on tv once a few years back saying that rear wheel spin was much easier to control in the top 25% of the RPM range.

If you are just lolly gagging around it doesn't really matter. It's when you deside to pull your skirt down and spank that fat heifer that you want to be very, very careful with the throttle if you are running low to mid range rpm.

I am one of the guys that's got the video. It really is a pretty decent video and I'd highly recommend it. I just wasn't sure SteveO what you were hunting for.

Yes I'd enjoy the "Tufbusa instructional series" on "reading a knee puck"...the easiest one to read is one that has never touched the ground :moon::laugh:

It's January and in most parts of the country our beloved two wheel machines are tucked away in the garage (I hate that Florida Rat we call Blanca Busa) where they will remain until the sun begins to peek it's warm rays of spring through the trees. (Except for Blanca, he has no trees but does have year around sun)

So, let's brush up on our riding skills via the keyboard. We all enjoy the wind in our face and the view of a twisty back road ahead. Here is the cornering question of the day:

What is first and formost the most important aspect of properly exicuting a corner/turn? Yes, there is one thing that stands out above all others that most cornering gurus will agree cannot be overlooked.

So what is this confidence inspiring gift that makes corner carving a breeze?

control your entry speed

loose on the bars

turn your head and look thru the corner

On the gas

Dude..1st off?..i'm not steering w/ wheelspin like rossi..leastways not all the time..not on public roads..but i do like to crossup the rear a lil on an entrance and leave a lil darky at the exit but i do hafta chuckle whenever i hear anyone say "Pick A Line"... ...like there's dozens to choose from! whereas i only ever have one..the fastest one..wide-tight-wide..turning every corner into as big a radius as possible..makin biguns outta lil ones..so i can carry the most speed into them and create the most speed through them..without running out of gear/throttle..and having to make a mid-turn upshift...thereby upsetting the chassis/suspension..just suptin i've been experimenting with lately and liking it..steppin out of THE BOX a bit..guess i've been too busy riding instead of home watching rossi on tv or watching dvds..or?...reading keith code like it was the king james version!

dont get me wrong...all good precepts for those who are unable to create their own concepts but?..i guess we're all different...some are fast at talkin smack and?..others?..well...we're just fast! :poke:

Ordered Twist of the Wrist 2 this afternoon off of ebay. Never too old to stop learning and after 30+ years of riding motorcycles and bicycles I'm still getting better every year technique wise anyway (my motor has lost a few hp over the years on the road bicycle!) I look forward to watching it from start to finish.

Ride hard and enjoy the view Bill, cause you know we all love you just the way you are! :beerchug:

i don't really know if im right or wrong, but i try to brake before the corner, then maintain speed into the corner, accelerate out. i keep the chassis loaded with a little pull from the engine. is this correct?

:poke:cutting a corner is like trying to get to Carnage Hall.
