EV vehicles

Let's hope at least some folks somewhere have forward thinking towards progress, rather than reasons to remain complacent.
EV aren't progress in the sense people think they are.....

The same pollutants are needed to manufacture them and in many cases to recharge them....

........and billions upon billions of people on this planet could never benefit from EV...

Human kind has to change the way we think and conduct ourselves......until that day comes (if ever) EV or ICE, it won't really matter in the long run....

We have to ask ourselves.........who is EV geared towards?

Probably along the lines of your dry humor that most people don't get

And there I was, thinking you digressed to:

Copy and paste your post:

"There's more important things to get done...the war on drugs and homelessness need to be priorities over frivolous EV.

If the world wants to look deep into climate change, let's start looking at a more viable recycling and waste disposal program and how to create green spaces instead of pavement and cement."

Then I reminded you of what you posted and the relevance of my reply, which was considered condescending.

Go ride your Busa and come back without sweating the small stuff, while I go find some more dry humor.

Motorcycle is in winter storage so you are stuck with me.......

The sad part is you can't even see why your post was condescending........something about my missing morning coffee which equates to my not being on top of things or groggy to facts....

Which wasn't the case...

I had a dear friend here, who passed from an unfortunate accident caused by someone else.

He use to say:

"You judge the size of a man, by the size of the things which upsets him."

Anybody heard any news about the shale oil revolution lately?
How about the mass transition to autonomous vehicles?
The resurgence in Nuclear power?

Like all these "Game changing technologies" the EV is now down the memory Hole. We've had the global collapse in sales, the collapse of the majority of the EV manufacturers and the radical scaling back of EV offerings from the major ICE vehicle manufacturers. They were only in it for the tax credits and the short term boost to their image anyway, "See, we're going Green too".

Don't expect much more from this Game changer either, the pattern is well established. Ramp up the next great new thing, make a fortune off investment capital and booming share prices and then ignore the mess and move on. A.I. is where the action is now though many of the smaller ones in that sector are rolling over so it wont last long either.

I'm afraid the 21st century isn't going to be canapés and champagne in orbit around Mars, more likely struggling to repay the mortgage and CC. Or living off an EBT card in a homeless camp by the airport.

You think your memory hole has dozed off a little? Maybe just a tiny bit?

Even Stellantis has talked of bringing the Charger back in ICE because that is what their customers want...

It's all about what the customer wants....

I don’t think we will see much of an EV slowdown in Europe.

The tax rebates here, will slow things down. It will be interesting to see what Musk has up his sleeve and how much influence he has on Trump.

I Don't know where you see them selling but it's not here or Europe. US consumers probably, Trump supporters perhaps?

Tesla's sales in Australia have been declining for seven consecutive months, with a 19.4% year-on-year decrease in 2024

Sales could go through the roof, if they dropped the price low enough. That's the thing with Tesla, it's a company so far removed from rational trading metrics it doesn't matter. Tesla has a P:E of nearly 90! Unheard of in any company really. What it means is that it can offer any deal, profitable of not. Remove the US subsidies and the green tax ICE makers have to pay (direct to tesla) and it's out the back door in no time. It's a ponzi scheme basically but the participants, like in all Ponzies, can't see that.

Tesla (TSLA) turns back to free Supercharging, big discounts in Europe to boost sales

Tesla is turning back to free Supercharging and offering big discounts in Europe to boost sales in its toughest market for a record quarter. There’s no hiding it. Tesla is not doing well in Europe this year. According to EU-EVs, the automaker has delivered about 85,000 fewer vehicles in Europe so far this year:

......I have noticed EVs do very poorly in the used segment.......nobody wants a used EV, dealerships here don't even want to take them in on a trade and if they do, they go right to auction and do poorly there...

They might be good for the moderately affluent but aren't viable for a struggling family or college kid or any kid getting their first car.

ICE is going to be with us for decades to come while EV become a frivolous platform for the "feel good" people who enjoy the "holier than thou" way of thinking.

Elon Musk himself summed it up pretty well. He stated, if tomorrow we woke up to no more ICE could be sold, it would take 25 years to be fully EV. ICE lifecycles are high, it would take that long before they are lifecycle out.

That statement doesn't even take into account the inability to build enough EVs even if the magic fairy came along and stopped the ICE from being manufactured.

Elon is a snake oil salesman when it comes to EVs.

All these "super pro" EV people really don't know how much of a carbon footprint EV have.....all they think about is they don't have to go to a gas station or burn fuel directly...

What is failed to be realized is how destructive a Lithium, copper, or other precious mineral mine is or the fact that crude oil is still needed to be sourced to make all the plastic these things have in them....not to mention the rubber that is required and these vehicles eat tires due to their weight....

Then there are issues with roads/bridges from the constant added weight they are being subjected to, I've read Britain and Europe are having infrastructure issues especially in their old quarters as those streets were never designed for the added weight..

All that comes with a huge cost from not only actual financial costs but all the diesel these repair, mining and transportation vehicles use.

I can't speak for everyone but I know that almost everything has a carbon footprint. EV's have a large one but still smaller than ICE vehicles. It's not super close either. Technology is not quite ready yet but numbers don't lie. It starts with the drive motor. EV's use about 85-90% of the energy of the battery and regenerative braking power while ICE vehicles might use 25% (if they're efficient) of the energy from gasoline. This is not to mention tailpipe emissions. Mining, recharging and recycling? Yes, that is the footprint but still no comparison to ICE. As far as plastic, seriously? Have you taken apart any new vehicle lately? If you think EV's have the plastic market cornered. look again.
EV's are not yet ready but neither are they the failure depicted in this thread.

Now you are spouting percentages.....might as well include a graph while you are at it.....

You are still failing to see the big picture of EV.....aging power grids which require enormous amounts of precious and beginning to get rare copper, power grids that are already taxed so the addition of a few million EV wouldn't do it any good.

EV are being pushed on a very small percentage of the human race...the very large percentage are super polluters but what is being done to quell that? Nothing is the answer.....I've just read that there is a huge smog cloud over Pakistan where they burn lots of wood and coal and where 2 strokes and diesels are prominent.......and that's just one large population....you can't swim in any of the rivers in these countries let alone drink it....

Where is the outrage over this sort of pollution? Where Li and acid batteries go to die at the hands of some kid wearing sandals and wielding a sledge hammer while the contents trickle away....

Let's get these countries into a better place before we start playing with ours....even with all the ICE out there, when was the last time we had a smog warning from vehicles? Must have been in the '80s.....

EVs are definitely not progressing in the manner they should be.
