EV vehicles

Sounds like a plan, unfortunately labor costs would be the killer. Unless your Rolls Royce your cars need to be made like cookies on an assembly line. To take random ice cars and retrofit them would be a nightmare, least wise if you wanted any range and needed to install a large battery.
Not necessarily, eliminating the fuel tank and exhaust creates quite a bit of space, Also, it's not just for random cars, but for some of the more desirable vehicles. That's why there are companies doing that conversion now.

Everyone is on the bandwagon of conversions. Electrogenic is one of the big players in conversion kits in the UK.
To electrify the classic Mini Electrogenic’s kit comes in at just £15,000 (US$18,800) plus VAT. A lot less than some other conversions.

MINI ELECTRIC KIT.jpg

Powered by 20kWh of brand-new, densely packed OEM-grade batteries, also pre-mounted on the subframe and all wired in, the electrified Mini offers 80 miles of in-town range. The Euro Type 2 charge port is also pre-mounted and can be accessed via a range of bespoke replacement front grilles. The Mini kit will be offered via Electrogenic’s fast growing global network of installer partners from Autumn 2023.

Full cost for a mini kit+install was $40,000 pounds about a year ago. Plus the cost of the mini of course. It looks like this mob are converting heritage cars mostly. And that makes good sense too, why would anyone spend 50,000 thousand dollars converting an ordinary old car. Obviously all the components are quality Chinese manufacture.

This conversion is cool, an old MX5. I drove one once and it handled like a dream, but was Gutless. This outfit is doing it a lot cheaper too, only 26,000 pounds for the kit+install and around 7~8000 pounds for an older MX5 in good condition that you bring to the party. Low miles = good condition generally.

Just as a comparison, a used 2019 Mazda 3 with 20k-miles on the clock will set you back around 14,000 pounds at a UK dealer. I would consider this as the sort of ICE car an average worker might buy if they didn't want to go into too much debt. And it has it's benefits of course, in the cold UK winters you can run the heater all day as it's not consuming electricity but waste heat off the engine.

Fun Fact. The average car on US roads today is about 12 years old.

Hi. You put 2 words togather that do not fit China and quality.

You must be fun at parties. We get it, you're anti EV. I'll be sure to tell all the EV owners I know to stop liking them so much and all the conversion companies, many of which have been in business between 10-40 years, that they chose wrong. Hopefully they don't ask why.

:poke:Personally, I think I can have a lot more fun putting an ICE into something, rather than trying to convert something else to an EV.

That said, I just helped my neihbor with his solar project. We purchased two totalled Tesla's for a song, scrap value, and installed the batteries with his solar panels, plus all custom controls. If we tried hard enough, I think we could have built one fine Tesla out of the two, for under $4k. One had the front damaged, the other the rear. Insurance don't blink an eye to scrap these cars as totalled.

Preaching to the choir here man. In the late 70's I was right in the middle of a buddy's 289 Pinto. Engine came out of a wrecked Fairlane if I remember right. As far as fun, I tend more towards practicality; not sure where to put the groceries on that lawnmower.

LOL, sorry I can't help myself. Weren't you the guy who didn't know that power is measured in Watts?
You really don't need to be a butthole. Probably none of us are as well versed as you in electronics. I know enough to know that amps are in the calculation for figuring wattage but it's not nearly as simple as plumbing, where poop runs downhill and air needs a way out.

I remember you describing a project like that, I was entranced. I’m not a fan of the local utilities company and would love a setup like that.

But, but, doesn’t he know everything?

You think you're annoyed because Oz22 is being arrogant, but that isn't so. Oz22 is not being arrogant; he is merely being precise. You are properly ashamed that you have not researched these subjects, and so in your shame you are annoyed at Oz22 because he is not guilty of your sin."

Jimmy’s down! (A little Seinfeld humor)
Seriously researching and understanding the intricacies of the conversions are two different things. Your opinion is tainted by bias. I personally love the science behind internal combustion, one just needs to appreciate a viable alternative.

So the EV does have a future, that's good news, and a cool project. Sounds like you striped the cars down to extract the packs, was there much effort in that?

I'll try to keep some of my posts short and simple so Red and Wuzza can get their heads around them.

WuzzaCBXRider isn’t ashamed or annoyed or arrogant or sinful.

He is also not the Shell answer man.

I have no problem understanding your posts and your sarcastic comment is noted. Understanding what you’re saying is not a problem nor is poking gaping holes in it. You’re new to this area of the forum. There are several members in the org that have long and vast experience in different fields. It’s not a good place to spread yourself so thinly, but it’s a great place to learn.
