I've thrown facts at you many times with articles. You dismiss them basically doing the same thing you accuse me of. I could go around and around with you and others on here until I am blue in the face!
Hey, if I am blue in the face does that make me a minority?
Ok I'll Bite:
Pandemic: The first shot across the bough was Legionnaires Disease in 1976. While this did not rise to pandemic levels it did make it clear that a mysterious virus (LD was bacterial) could wipe out humanity in reality, not just in the movies. Bird Flu, HINI, and Ebola followed and made it clear that disease was a more clear and present danger than nukes. Obama made an infectious disease task force a cabinet level position, with the task of monitoring the world for outbreaks to trigger the earliest responses possible. Obama even called COVID would hit and said it could be 5 years or 20 years but it will happen (5 years was 2019).
Trump dismantled this group when he got into office, simply because Obama did it. Worse than that, Trump refused to take the many warnings he had seriously and did nothing. Even worse, a virus like this takes a national strategy and there is complete disengagement by the federal government. Trump's only concern was restarting the economy, a critical part of his reelection pitch. So without enough testing, without organized tracking, he convinced the people that this is killing black and brown people and ignore it. So out everyone went, without masks and now we are back where we were in April in NY, NY, Had we kept isolating and focused on PPE's and testing, we would be possibly looking at being 80-90% normal now with low infections. If you don't believe that, countries around the world are doing this successfully while we are the 7th worst in the world fighting this virus. Making America Great huh?
While the Dems are not happy this virus has hit, it was inevitable that something would expose this guy's complete incompetence that couldn't couldn't be covered up. There is no spinning the Trump Flu Failure. Its objectively one of the most expensive failures (both in lives and money) by a president in history. So while many will fool themselves by saying Trump would have been a success had it not been for the virus, the truth is Trump has gotten away with a string of ill advised decisions and the virus is the first real challenge to his ability to run the country.
Stock Market: When you look at the stock market its not how high it is as much as how much it has gone up. After Obama's initial rocky start (he was handed a crashing economy), the market headed up for most of his 2 terms. While Trump has seen a market rise for his first term it's been a wild ride. The worse part is these huge swings have been due to silly tweets by the president and erratic economic policy. Bottom line if I got into the market at the beginning of Obama's second term, I would have seen more gains than I would in Trump's first term.
Socialism: It's crazy but the virus is a real time example of why we need to be at least partially socialist in our system. People are going to be wiped out because of the medical bills they incurred due to this virus. It could threaten the banking system again if the mortgage defaults rise again. So much of fighting a threat like a virus require a socialist approach. I'll just leave this here as I could write a book on this topic. Bottom line is we need a certain level of socialism in our system to keep it balanced.
Healthcare: Speaking of Socialism, Trump didn't promise to get rid of healthcare he promised a "better, beautiful system that would cover everyone for less money". He has not in his entire first term offered any detail on this new system, he only keeps working as hard as possible on taking away what little people have. As amazing as it is, in the middle of a pandemic the Trump administration is in court trying to take people's coverage. Amazing.
Trade: Trump is using tariffs because it is the only unchecked power he has to impact our relationships with other countries. He can impose Tariffs with the stroke of a pen, no congressional approvals. It's very destabilizing to the system to play with one aspect of it without a strategic plan. Trump has ruined long time relationships that helped make America the economic power it is. So Trump is willing to be a socialist if it's necessary to quit the people he is screwing (fun, Trump paying the people he is screwing to be quiet). Family farms are destroyed, now they live off a total government handout and failures are way up. It can't get much crazier than this, as the trade deficit has GONE UP under Trump! So all the noise and damage and things are worse. NAFTA was due to be renegotiated anyway, so his claims to forcing that issue are bogus. Those trade deals always have review periods built into the deal.
Fiscal Policy - Debt - GDP: Trump's tax cut was a $1.3 trillion give away that was supposed to push the GDP to 5% and historic sustained highs. Trump has struggled to hit 3% and has even lagged behind Obama's 2.8% in his last term. All of that is from Forbes and Washington Post numbers
before the COVID collapse. Trump is running up debt like no one before him. No one has ever run up the debt when the economic was at full tilt. This is playing with fire, as there is no way to stimulate the economy should something like a pandemic cause a problem. Essentially, Trump is running the country like a crazy person with a credit card spending until their limit stops them. Your kids are going to pay for that tax cut and all the wonderful times you're enjoying now, be sure to tell them "Daddy robbed you baby, love you". By almost all criteria, Trumps economic performance is questionable when the consequences are factored in.
I could go on and on . But I think the president has been exposed as an empty suit and most of America has been slapped out of their trance by Trump's incredibly incompetent performance leading the country through a real threat.
