First gear issues

I pulled the fuel pump, plugged it in outside the tank and heard it cycle. Put it back in the tank, bolt it up and it doesn't prime anymore. Took the pump out again, it primed once and now I'm getting nothing. Time to break out the voltmeter. I can hear the relay cycle on and off so I know it's not something silly like the kill switch acting up.
 
Also any ideas on the vacuum line? I'm more concerned with figuring out where that goes than my extra parts, lol. At least all bolts were accounted for!
 
I think you are correct. I remember it came from that area, but not exactly sure where and curious what exactly it does.

If you still have the fairings off, should be a quick job to remove the radiator bolts one at a time to see which one has the missing spacer. You know you’ll end up doing it so you can sleep tonight. :laugh:

But after doing some troubleshooting, I have a grounding issue with my fuel pump. If I ground the metal of the pump to the frame it will prime. Put it back in the tank and it wont prime. Don't have the pump touching the frame and it won't prime. The wiring of these things are fairly simple so I'm confused what I did wrong when putting it back together. Time to dig through the service manual...

The part circled in red in the second picture is what I have to ground to get the pump to run.

This was perfect! I don't know if I was looking at a different picture or mine was bad quality but I had a hell of a time following it originally. I had a couple vacuum lines routed to the wrong spots, and the fuel pump is now working after moving the ground wire. I didn't follow a manual when I cleaned the pump, apparently I should have!

Now my only remaining issue is the vacuum line off the gas tank. Any idea where that goes? Or are they both just vent tubes? Going to start digging in the manual again...

*EDIT* Found it in the manual, what I thought was a vent tube is a drain tube and what I thought was a vacuum line is the vent tube. So I believe all vacuum line locations are sorted now!

Thanks a bunch for all the help guys. Going to get some lunch, some fuel and then try to start it up.

I'm pretty sure the spacer came from the radiator and I'm pretty sure why I was confused about it, is because it is the only one that was still there. I have no spacers on the fuel tank hold down, and none in the radiator now. Previously the bike didn't even have the radiator bracket installed so it was a bit floppy in there. I'm going to call it good the way it is currently. Still need to decide on what to do about the clutch cover rubber piece.

Clutch cover? you mean shifter cover thingy?

I ran 6 years without one of those
till I realized it was missing after working on someone elses bike
 
Isn't that rubber just the dust seal for the pushrod for the clutch?
