Garbage Kickstand

Operator error my a$$ dude. I've been riding motorcycles for years and this is the first time this has happened to me. It doesn't take a genius to properly use a kickstand. There are way too many instances of this happening for it to be coincidence. You shouldn't have to leave your bike in gear for it not to fall over. There is definately a design flaw in the kickstand.

Sorry that your bike fell over dude...but if you're so experienced, how could it happen to you. Leave the bike in gear and roll it forward :rulez:

What does experience have to do with a poorly designed kickstand? Why are you defending Suzuki for this obvious ***k up? If it's just me then why are there threads and websites showing you how to modify your kickstand to prevent this? I just wish I knew about it before it happened.

+1

Leave it in gear, roll it FORWARD until it stops...then put the stand down

+1000!!! Had owned dozens of bikes over the years and haven't had a bike drop on me yet following the protocol above. :cheerleader:

Where was I defending Suzuki ???

Experience is knowing how to park a Hayabusa...they could have done a better job on the side stand...you could have done a better job on parking the bike. Do the mod, but that will not guaranty that it won't tip over if not parked properly. Many of the people who have posted in this thread have had several Hayabusa's and have not done the kickstand mod...why their bikes (mine included, I've had 3 and put over 100k on them) have not tipped over :dunno: I am sorry that you dumped your bike. Please be more careful in the future where and how you park it :please:

I don't think anybody is denying that there's room for improvement in the design. Perhaps it's not as user-friendly as it could be, but it does work. Well, BA beat me to it... I've not done the mod. No drops either. You just have to be careful with it.

You're right. How could I be so ignorant as to think that parking my bike on a flat surface in neutral after double and triple checking the sidestand (like every other motorcycle on the planet) should stay upright after I walk away from it. Don't talk to me like I'm an idiot guy. I'm not saying the "leave it in gear" thing isn't a good idea. My point is I shouldn't have to. If Suzuki refuses to fix the problem they could at least put it in the manual to leave it in gear when you park it or something. I've owned more than a dozen motorcycles, not to mention I work on them for a living, and I've never had to leave any of them in gear to ensure they wouldn't fall over. But this is my first busa. How else am I supposed to know they roll off that easy? Now, if it happened again, I would take full blame.

Aight, man. Well I'm glad you got it all back together. Now go for a ride and turn than frown upside down.

parking my bike on a flat surface in neutral
Parking them anywhere in neutral asking for trouble.
When I had my ZRX1200 and was a regular on the ZRXOA, people had the same problem. "Terrible stand design", went to great extremes grinding, shortening, replacing with aftermarket stands, to fix the "problem".
Same solution there as here.. in gear, roll it forward, set it on the stand, instant kickstand fix.
Using this method even parking them facing (sometimes steeply) downhill, in all my years, I've never had a bike (including my Busa) fall off the stand.

Yeah. Not much riding left up here in Mass. How's the temps down in TN?

Ummmmm.... it's 43 right now. Cool enough to perk up the horsepower, but not too cold to ride. The high tomorrow is 71, and some of us will be riding the Dragon. :cheerleader:

Never had this issue, on my second Busa over 40K combined. Maybe it's because I read all the kickstand mod threads being posted :dunno:

Sorry bout the drop.

I did the mod cuz my driveway is gravel...Help ease my mind when getting off.

BTW 65 degrees here with a low of 45 tonight...leave a msg..I'll be out till morning!:whistle::cheerleader:

Especially since the 09 prices jumped up $2k just for color changes, that much more money to hit the ground.

The color changes had nothing to do with the enormous price increase. Your beloved busa has actually increased about $3K since election day! Your US Dollar has lost 16% of it's value this year alone and it's continuing to fall. Thank you Mr. Obama and friends, czars, revernds and former employer "ACORN"!

Write your democratic leadership and complain! :beerchug:

Oh, and if this health care bill passes and they add another $1,000,000,000,000 (That's a lot of fu#$ing zeros) to the debt to China, it would not surprise me to see your busa soon reach a MSRP of $20K+? :dunno:

I'm happy you learned your lesson about how to prevent a kickstand tipover. 99.9% of us never have that problem and it's usually new guys that end up with the beast on her side.

Suzuki engineers could without doubt make the busa idiot proof (Don't pucker your panties, I'm not calling you an idiot) but then $25K may not buy it? But then we would complain that it takes five minutes to turn off all the safety systems before a hot start and it would weigh another hundred pounds.

Let's face it, no matter how hard we try, we are all going to have mishaps once in a while whether it tips over in the driveway due to soft surface, kickstand, up on bike stands or whatever!

Just be happy the tip over didn't involve broken bones. Chock it up to experience, put a happy face on and go for a ride! :beerchug:

I know the color change had nothin to do with it. Just seemed a little extreme for the same bike. And Yes, Obama needs to go. And thats the end of that subject, I don't do politics.
