Gen 3 SLR Handheld Tune Review

TLDR map was too rich and produced less power than stock.

Service:
Fun to deal with up front. A frustrating 'customer is always wrong and I am always right' attitude when troubleshooting. Also jumps to conclusions, tends to bounce between issues, hard to pin down to a methodical approach. Can tend to gaslight you on deflecting new questions when trying to bottom out a thread. Generally unnecessarily frustrating but with a cool head you can get a troubleshooting job done and gain some clarity.

Take always;
  1. If you have an EU bike with an immobilizer it has different firmware so if going the SLR way worth letting him know you have the little red LED on the key cylinder, he can see this from the .fpf ID file but best to provide a reminder so that you don't have to waste half a day dealing with your bike not starting. If you do hit the immobilizer issue while using a DimSport handheld a full RESET is required and re-ID else you may well end up with a second Mod file sent to you that works but an original that doesn't.
  2. Non start issues can drain the battery so even with a lithium and a high end charger it is still worth waiting until the battery is fully charged before trying to flash as I managed to get a Code [0x3102] error after trying to flash away from a non starting original. This was resolved by repeating the flash after the the battery fully charged.
Tune features:
PAIR issue resolved
EVAP issue resolved
!Hill F1 issue resolved
Did not notice any change in the quick shift timings or performance

Tune performance:
Cannot see any change to throttle mapping or ignition mapping.
Fuel mapping dropped to 11.55 at one point which is too rich
Rev limiter seems to be north of 11,500RPM which is too high
Produced less power than stock map.

I'm not surprised about QS settings. Not even Woolich or SDS2 have that capacity and I'm pretty sure no one other than Suzuki can adjust the QS settings with some kind of software update. Thanks for posting about the (absence of) changes to mapping or ignition. It seems all the tune does is dangerously increase the rev limit with no tangible gain in performance. You've provided a good service letting us all know.

My pleasure still working with SRL, they have offered to take it back and refund, will update on if that actually happens. @Equanimous, are you a vipassana mediator? Also Woolich race tools allows QS timing changes or is that a standalone?

Haha I make the same typo all the time, yep, a meditator. Well, I looked for the option to change QS in my version of the Woolich software and couldn't find it. Are you referring to the Woolich QS hardware itself??

This is the SLR feature sheet for the Hayabusa tune:

I cannot say, but everyone here that has installed the Gen3 Woolrich Quickshifter on, their physical part, has said that corrected the lag between shifts.
Not an ecu setting change.

Yep, currently there's no way to change stock QS settings using software, and I've heard that the Woolich replacement QS is an improvement over the stocker. As I mentioned, I have a Logbox for my Gen 3 and there's no option to change QS settings. You can do pretty much everything else, but not that. From what I can see, any company who claims they have a tune that adjusts the stock QS timing are lying.

six.. when you gonna cut the crap and get a gen3?

=D

When a used solid black with None of the stupid issuses shows up, at a price I can't refuse...so probably never...
But I really don't need another bike, and if I do, it has to be something different, like a TL1kR.
I'm looking at smaller dual-sports for my stepson now too.

Quickshifter Kill times are configurable per gear with 3D maps allowing Kill Times to be set for the full range of TPS and RPM combinations.

Yep, so that's after installing the Woolich hardware on the Gen 2, then the Woolich software lets you configure it. What you can't do is use 3rd party software, whether Woolich, BT, SLR of any other vender, to configure the OEM QS on the Gen 3, as this is buried deep in the ECU somewhere which no one's yet figured out how to access.

Thanks VM, would be great to fix that 1st to 2nd change.. What would you recommend for a Woollich shopping list?

Thoughts on the wideband offering there? Assuming the autotune offered by Woolich is preferable to the Power Commander piggy back system?

What are people using for knock detection / logging / closed loop?
Has anyone figured out a way to tune per power mode? For example build a track, road, tour tune for power levels 1, 2 and 3?
