Gen2 HID install

Funny thing about the "optional start" method...

When Acura came out with the newer TL like in 03 I think I can't remember, when the alarm went off the factory HID's went off and on with the alarm like flashing low beams would on any other car.

Is it that much harder on the bulb and ballast to have that happen?

Could be but I would say I now start 50/50 old way/new fangled starter first way.

Sometimes I just get tired and start it up.
Dont have that many miles (about 2k) but still no probs here so far.

I'm installing my HID kit right now (trying to anywayz) and I can't get the gauge cluster to come off. I took off the two bolts at the bottom, but it seems like it's connected from the top/behind the gauges (the bottom swings out, but the top won't). What did I miss???????

Put a little grease or something on those plugs and it will come off alot easier next time...

Okay, about to do the install and here's a question;

It's best to disconnect the battery first... right? I was going to anyways but thought I'd ask.

And my marker lights;

you don't have to. it's a good idea tho. i do when working on a customer vehicle.

I haven't read (or don't recall reading) anything pertaining to disconnecting power... but thought it couldn't be a bad idea.

Thanks!

Now I've got all the panels off and windshield off, just working on the cluster... see how she goes!

Cant hurt to disconnect power.
And the marker lights are fine.
They have a yellow cover for some reason but glow white.
If they had yellow bases they would be yellow in color.

Man, so far the biggest challenge was getting that pesky plastic cover off that's right over the cluster... but I'm in!

Yes all the crackin' and poppin' really sounds bad but is the way it goes..

When you get it all back together there will be a 'rise' to the panel that goes on top.
The two will not meet perfect.
Drove me crazy.
Lucky I take so many pics of my bike cuz I had a before shot to prove to myself it was not perfect before I took it apart.

See pic.

Gotcha on on points cause it for sure would've drove me madd. Jaysus, I nearly tore my hands up getting those running lights in... Should've waited for my 11 yr. son to come home!

Now, time to unpack the HID's and see how bad I can muck this up! ;-)

You can do it!

Yeah, it hurt my fingers to peel those running lights out. Running light bulbs are correct.

I hope so too! ???

Just seems daunting right now. Had to skip out for a bit and I'll have another half an hour or so before other duties come calling...

What I don't complete today I'll finish tomorrow morning.

Re: Blanca's new Granny Blinders....

No issues with start up . Tim explained to me how to go thru the motions of starting without lights being on.
I believe you turn killswitch on then push starter in and hold it.
While holding starter button down turn key on and lastly draw in clutch to start bike.
This was the HIDs don't light until the bike actually starts and there is no power drain .
Again great tip from my new bestus fwend WarbirdII.

My goal is to separate myself from all the others by standing out during daytime.
Too many people look right thru me.
Hopefully now with both beams on during the day folks will notice me a little more.

I read somewhere on here that the newer bikes, 2005+, kill the lights when starting. Is this true? I know when I have key on and press starter my light goes out and comes back on..

Re: Blanca's new Granny Blinders....

As soon as I get my tax refund i'm buyin 5000K for both! I'm so stoked.

Anyone do an install with this set on a Gen 1 ?

Yes it's very easy on a Gen 1... pretty much the same as the GenII except Gen I removes the nose a little different. Very easy install. I did mine last night.

For the price to me it doesnt really matter anymore. At first I was worried but now I start it normal style more than half the time.
When I remember or am paying attn I push on killswitch then hold starter button in. With left hand I flick key on and then draw in clutch. This will keep your lights off until she starts.
Hold the starter in after she comes to life for a couple seconds and all will be ok.

HID is the best mod I did to my busa. Here is a shot of my gen1 with the kit installed in the front plastics.
