Gen2 HID install

I got same ones.
Your fine..
Dont know why they look yellow ?
Yours look like just a slightly diff model with white base (maybe updated) but mine had yellow over them same as those.
If you look at site the colored ones hvae colored bases. So i would figure white or clear would be white lights ?

They are a little different. I see 2 LED's in mine and see 4 (I think) in yours.

That yellow sure thru me off a little. I guess I'll find out when I get to installing them in about 2 weeks (after Disneyworld and trackday, and before Bash!)

Ok, TOMMORROW I'm going to try this.

Saiid, I've only got one question, you talk about cutting off the 'rubber grommet that the wiring on the HID kit runs thru. In one of your original posts, you actually show the wiring kit with some pointers to the ballasts and the igniters...how about fixing that pic to also point to the rubber grommets you mention? I'm pretty sure I know what you are talking about, but it would help clarify.

Thanks about to PM you also.

The large sofT rubber grommet right behind bulb is what you cut off.
NOTHING ON BIKE NOR ANY PARTS FROM BIKE GET CUT.

If you got any ?'s about the DDM Skydiver let me know... pm me! But I know Saiid has got you covered... I am just providing backup!:rulez::laugh:

PERFECT. Last night I took off the gauges, windscreen, covers, etc. to work on this mod today. P.S. , the 'tab' you have to bend to get the guages unplugged was a biotch to find as it's not shown in the service manual AT ALL. I may have to add a pic of that.

I think it's the other way around ?
I'm doing warbirds job as he's the teacher and I'm grasshopper !
I'm looking at the pics here that i posted and saying to myself
'I don't remember any of that?'

memory sucks when you get old !

Not sure what you refer to ? 'tab'
Yes a pic of it would help future installers

Thanks much! I'm just looking at where to put the placement of the ignitors (the ballast location has been clearly covered) to keep them as far away from the guages as possible to prevent electronic interference. I've even thought about maybe a piece of aluminum foil in between them (if it will stop a WIFI signal, it might also deflect whatever appears to be messing with the electronics some have mentioned. It will probably take me all day to do this as I'll spend about 80% of the time LOOKING at it and 20% of the time actually DOING it...but I'll let you know....

Where I put mine has given me ZERO probs.
I have only noticed my clock reset twice .
And this happened when bike was off and sitting ?
Very weird .
I also am lazy now and start it normal way about half the time.
No probs yet and am loving them .
Don't worry too much about interference as it's not really a guaranteed prob every time .

I'll pm you my cell #
Call if you need help .
Not sure if I can help as I can't remember what I ate for dinner last night but I'll try !

Very nice work. I live in fort Lauderdale by the ocean and could sure use them. Also need to figure where to hide an airhorn.
thanks

200mph we should get together and ride sometime ?
How often do you come this way ?
I rode a bit the other day and saw three Busas new to me here.
As all were posin on a hot sunny day and wearing sneakers shirts and shorts no helmets I just kept going.
Let me know let's get together .

I installed mine on Sunday, and am going to add a little to Saiid's thread. His instructions were VERY helpful, but there were a few items that I thought could use some elaboration.

1. When removing the instrument cluster, the tab to push in to release the plug is on the bottom side of the plug, and can be tricky to find (it's not shown in the manual). Here is the tab:

And here it is again with my thumb depressing it so it will come out of the cluster:

2. Here is pic with cluster removed. I also took off my windscreen not necessary but made it easier to work with and only takes about a minute to get off. On the back of the instrument cluster there are two plugs that have to be unplugged besides the two bolts. I recommend using a little grease when reinstalling so they come in/out better (like what's recommended on the body covers) You can see the two plugs in this pic:

3. While I had mine apart for the HID install, I also installed the marker lights as previously mentioned. The mounts for the marker bulbs are mostly silicone, and you grab one or two sides of the assembly and work out out of the headlight. Here is upclose pic of the mount (in this case the right side):

When you pull out the plug:

IMG_0335%20(Large).jpg

And the bulb just pulls out:

Plug in the replacment bulb:

IMG_0328%20(Large).jpg

And you are good to go:

IMG_0331%20(Large).jpg

When you put the new bulb in, you can see a little bit of yellow thru the headlight, but it does shine clear white:

For some reason, my HID kit is a little different than Saiid's. Mine was also 35W and the bulbs are 6K. The ballasts didn't have that pretty sticker on them, and the High Beam also had bare spade connectors like the low beam. Here is pic of my high beam assembly BEFORE "cutting the rubber grommet off":

IMG_0337%20(Large).jpg

Once you cut the wires out of the 'grommet' (be VERY CAREFUL you don't cut the wires!) it makes more sense. In this pic you can see the entire path from the spade connectors that plug into the stock bulb harness, all the way thru the ballast, to ignitor, to bulb. The ballasts and ignitors are identical, so you don't have to worry about getting them confused out of the box, but you DO need to make sure you trace the correct path to the correct light and bulb when plugging them up after install. This is the high beam:

IMG_0338%20(Large).jpg

and here is the low beam:

IMG_0339%20(Large).jpg

Here is where I put my ballasts (ignitors hanging off to the for at the moment). I also used the right air tube, used that sticky tape that cam with the units to stick them together and one ziptie, then stuck them to the air tube then ziptied to make sure. TIP: Use BLACK zipties when going around the air tubes; I used yellow and you can see it when climbing on the bike it's noticeable and I'll probably redo them next time I have the covers off.

IMG_0341%20(Large).jpg

Unlike Saiid, I did NOT tie the ballasts to the frame; I thought the high-frequency ignitors (has a warning label imprinted on them) would be better kept as far away from the instrument cluster as possible. I also taped/ziptied them to the same airtube futher up front (not pictured).

Next, here is a pic of the low beam bulb still in the mount with the grommet removed. Push in and down on that little metal wire and it will unclip, then the bulb is free to pop out:

IMG_0343%20(Large).jpg

Lastly, here is a pic of the OEM bulb. Saiid has done a great job of stating how to trim the edges off the HID lowbeam collar, but to be clear, the tab of the bulb I'm holding, and the new bulb also, FACES UP to properly seat when reinstalling.

I could repeat this install in an hour, but it took me about 4 because I spend alot more time thinking about it than just doing it. Hope this helps!

Very nice.
Well done add.
Yes I needed/ we needed the addition of marker light pics.
Thanks.
I do remember tab now it was a pita..
Thanks again..

Hi Guys. Can I isntall a on off switch between the oem connector and the ballast??? To turn on the low beam after I turn on the bike. :beerchug:

We will want to see the pics of this addition to add to this thread!

I've been using the "alternate start method" previously mentioned. Seems to work fine just got to remember to do it.
