Harley Junk

Ok, I’m new here this is my second post so please don’t beat me up.  I don’t own a Busa…yet.  I’ve been looking at them for years.   I own a HD.  Yeah, that’s right I’m one of those cruiser conformist.  I love riding let’s just say that in my demographic the HD is an acceptable bike while the image of the sport bike rider is young, wild, suicidal, and rude. That’s mostly what we see on them.   HD has been very successful marketing their bikes to higher income weekend riders.  I have to say I love my bike; it’s kind of a nostalgic work of art.  I don’t care what anyone says riding ANY bike is a blast.  The cruiser crowd is just a different kind of motorcycle enthusiast.    Now comes the embarrassing confession…I’ve been a spineless, closet sports bike lover.   I’ve wanted a sport bike for years but in my neck of the woods it isn’t the kind of bike a middle aged guy is seen much on.   Let me put it this way; when I first mentioned to my buddies that I was thinking about getting a sport bike they looked at me like I had just told them I liked Marilyn Manson, was getting my nose pierced and dying my hair purple.  I know, I know…grow a sack and get what I want, to hell with what other people think.  You don’t have to say it.   To be honest I think there a lot guys like me.

There is a very good reason HD riders make snide remarks about “crotch-rocket cowboysâ€.  We don’t see many sports bikes to begin with and the ones we do see are usually have young immature riders in the saddle.  I’ve seen groups of them on the interstate raising their wheels up at highway speeds, weaving in an out of congested freeways, passing on the right almost clipping the cars as they weave and running red lights at busy intersections.  Generally riding as though they are immortal or the laws of physics just don’t pertain to them; like they can REALLY withstand that hit by an SUV.

I hope I didn’t offend anyone hear, I’m sure there are many responsible sport bike riders out there.  I just don’t know any.   In any case I’m finally going to give into my rebel side grow a pair and get what I want.  I guess I’ll be riding alone but who cares…Eagles seldom flock anyway, right?

The Busa is a very popular bike with the middle aged crowd.  If I was on a 1000 bent over I wouldn't be able to ride for longer than 1 hour.

I was at the Rock store 2 weeks ago maybe 25 bikes 5 were Busa's all guys over 40.

Just buy the thing.  Busa is the King.  Everyone likes the king.  Most harley riding guys ask a question - Is that thing fast?  I say depends on your definition of fast.

I own a Heritage and a Busa - people at work ask how do you decide which one to ride - depends if I'm late or not.

Get the Busa - It will not disappoint.

Well, I'll fess up. There are times when I'm on the Busa that I just love to play hop scotch through cars. Around here it is sort a rule of the road that if a car or bike wants around, you speed up so they can't pass. The Bus accelerates so fast you can be in front of them before they can react. You can see their WTF faces. I usually restrain myself, but every so often...

Most of the time I don't ride that fast, I even let Harleys pass. In fact I'll even wave at them, though most are so rude they won't return the wave. I guess it depends on the community you live in. I'm 58 and I see kids on sports bikes blowing through traffic and it doesn't bother me. They have quicker reflexes than I do and may even be better riders. Bikes don't do much damage to cars, so it's their own necks they are risking. When I was young, I was very similar and I'm still here. Anyway, I guess I'm saying live and let live.

Not making a snide post, just some thoughts I had.

On a more comical note...

I've always wondered what kind of crap I would get if I showed up for one of the HOG Chapter rides on the Electra Glide while wearing my Joe Rocket Speedmaster suit and other racing gear.

I've been on some rides wearing my Hein Gericke winter suit, and got to laugh at most of the other riders as they froze their azz off all "leathered up".  Meanwhile I was only wearing a t-shirt and jeans under my suit.

Hey Jim...

When I bought my Busa and still owned my Harley, I wore my white leather HD coat while riding...

The reaction is hysterical! Guys would pull up to me and yell "hey, WRONG jacket!", then they'd meet me at the next light and say "No, WRONG bike!"

I got a lot of funny looks...but, sometimes it's fun to shake things up a bit...

Hey, you from LA right??
I was up in Newport lookin at some bikes a few weeks back and all the older guys were into Busa's.
The young guys want those cheaper crotch rocket stuff...not a REAL bike like the Busa.

As far as quality goes it is built in America so low quality is not a surprise. (Anyone owned a Chevy knows why) and the Jap's are superior when it come to this stuff, cameras, motorcycles, cars, electronics, sucks I know but thru.

I have a 05 Busa and I love riding for shorter rides around here but if I am going for a 1,000 miles in a day I pick my Road King. Can easi;y do 1,000 miles in 14 hours. Did put 17,000 miles on the harley this summer and no problems so far.

Well Kawa, it's one thing to run your mouth from the security of hiding behind your computer to a largely sympathetic board. If you feel so strongly about some of the things you said like Harley riders being posers, faggots and fruitcakes, why not show us what a pair of cajones grande you claim to have and stop by your local Outlaws clubhouse and tell 'em how you feel about them and their bikes. You might be riding a mans bike, but I doubt the person riding it is man enough to back up his words with action. I think you are the poser.
