dude just get that damn thing...busa's are the #### there isnt a bike out there that is better than it...just remember you control the throttle just watch out for other people and remember #### happens, the bike doesnt kill people, people kill themselves cause people are ignorant. Everybike takes time to learn just go slow practice your turns oh and whatever you do if you are scared of the bike period dont get it that is the worst thing you can do..i already totalled one brand new busa and im going to go get another one, but it wasnt my fault so who cares....anyways have fun....enjoy the bike and remember you have control the bike doesnt control you!

I agree.

The Busa was my first bike ever, I was just tellin Rhythm last night the first 20 miles were in 1 & 2 gear just tryin to learn how to shift and it was 20 degrees in january.  I bought the bike then found this board and all of the naysayers had me spooked.  I've got about 7000 mile on it and lovin it.  the front wheel stays on the ground, no burnouts or anything like that.  I'll jack it up to 140-150 for a few seconds under the right circumstances but thats about it.  YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THE BIKE AND CONTROL YOUR ADRENALINE.  If you get all gungho on it your in for trouble.  I think your physical size is a big factor when just learning to ride this beast, i'm 6'4 and 225 so it feel really comfortable to me.  you can die on any bike and to say  Busa killed someone is like saying a gun killed them, someone had to load it and pull the trigger.  be safe and take a course in rider safety.
what they said just learn to control that right wrist very sensitive

A ton of respect and maturity is a must with ANY bike, but it seems that it's even more important with a fast sportbike...

MSF class is a great place to start, any riding on something that won't be costly to fix if you drop it and you should be on your way. If you choose the Busa as a first bike, just remember it is not cheap to fix even if you just drop it from a stand still...

Just be smart, you can ride anything...

I agree with everyone else.

Do yourself a favor and start on something else...something cheap.

i got my license on the busa and so did my guy JP me and him took 3 weeks after we bought the bike and we both passed with 2 points takin off and thats our first bikes

And I dont mean to scare you but your days are numbered.

The statistics are not in your favor...unless you are Superman you are just another number like the rest of us.

My busa is actually my second bike. You know your own personal level of maturity and discretion. Take the class and get a smaller bike and later when you feel confortable get one.

Hell skydiving looks cool, but I wouldn't try it.
Agreed. Don't buy the Busa until you have at least 2 years sport riding under your belt. I have also seen many a bunch of gung-ho hardasses buy this bike or a liter bike as their first and end up in the hospital a few times. You don't realize what you're into yet.

I had an '03 R6 first, then I traded it in for my Busa, and i'm still not 100% on this bike yet. I think that should be your route if you truly care for your life. This isn't a macho "Well I can handle it" thing either...heed the warnings.

By the way, I've skydived, and it was the most intense rush I've ever experienced. I think everyone should try it at least 1 time if you have the balls to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

Riding bikes on and off the track for over 30 years and well over 600,000 KM's under my belt. Been riding super sport, sport touring and cruisers the whole time, own a Busa, R1, Road King and a 10R. This bike is defintley not for the faint of heart; it'll eat ya when you least expect it. It's very heavy and power rich, particularily where you would least expect it, at the low end of the spectrum. 1000 cc bikes are just as fast overall and much more nimble. They don't bite as bad without warning. If I had to compare bikes using animals as an analogy, this would be my take:

Any current liter bike = Rattlesnake
Busa = Black Mamba

When this bike bites ya, it'll bite hard and without warning...it's just way too much HP and Torque for a less than average rider. Go buy a 500 or at worst, a 600; 600 will still 1/4 in the 10's but they handle and won't just f-ck ya when you least expect it. 'nuf said

Party on dude!

They must have a hella easy course in IL. You'll be lucky if you can pass FL.'s test with a 600 much less a 1300 and much less than that with 3 weeks riding experience. Most people here, and when I say most I mean close to 95%, have to borrow or rent a 250 or 125 cruiser to pass the DMV course. That or pay $250 for the MSF class and obtain the waiver. Take it on any sportsbike  other than a 250 ninja and chances are you will fail here. Gee, I wonder why they make it so difficult for sportsbikes ... hmmm.

BTW, the info above was told to me by a Florida DMV rep.

Okay, we're all gonna die. Fine.

But increase your chances of NOT dying whenever you can. It's a lot more fun that way!
biggrin.gif

Ergo, buy a smaller bike, learn to ride RIGHT and without bad habits, take the MSF course, improve your chances of living through the experience.

MUCH more fun than lying in the hospital not being able to ride at all for 6+ months or being dead.

Hope that makes sense. I'd rather ride a GS500F any day than be laid up after riding a Busa for 10 minutes or 10 days and having it bash me into the road because I wasn't adept at riding.

I'd like to know where you went to take it. Seriously.
For starters every 1 in like 10 pass this test on their first try. Secondly it's pretty much impossible on a Sportbike ESPECIALLY a Busa, so I'm sorry bud I'm going to call MAJOR BS on that one.

Unless the test you took was given by someone as a stand in who didn't know what they were doing, or they were mentally handicapped. Especially this being your first bike ??

No guys, it's not easy here in Illinois. Trust me.
If you say it happened I want to know WHICH driving facility you passed at. Cuz I don't live far from Romeoville and I would love to know for future reference. Every place I've ever gone it's impossible on a sportbike just due to the turning radius at the low speed you have to go around the cones.

Exactly. I could pass the test now, quite easily but when I first got the Busa? No way.

The testers down here in the sticks are pretty laid back, but I still borrowed a bike to do it. A streetched, dropped Busa for my test? I think not.
A stock Busa w/ only 3 weeks riding experience? I think not either. You ain't gotta lie to kick it.

find board member "chowan" and click his profile.. then click read all posts by this member...

he is a first bike busa owner..

no offense chowan...  You seem like a good guy to me..  but we were all telling you mostly the same stuff before you got yours...

that being said.. there are others on this board that had a 'busa as a first bike and have done ok with it.. so far anyway...  it's a steep learning curve with alot of completely harmless looking curves that turn out to be very dangerous.
Ego's right everyone gave their opinion, warned, and gave me the at a boy, but its up to you ultimetaly. I'm not going to tell you it is a good first bike or a bad first bike. If you choose to buy it make sure your "A" game is on every time you turn that key because this Martha Focker is no joke. If you are not 100% on your "A" game don't let the beast leave the driveway. I have taken my time very slowly which is extremely hard because you get and do everything so quickly on this bike. This is my first bike and everytime I leave my house to ride my bike my 5 yr. old daughter says verbatim "Have a Good Ride and Make Good Choices Daddy". That statement checks my a$$ quick. That's what I think about when I ride. What about you? BE safe and Ride on....

bikes are just like guns they dont kill people. People kill people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ride on playa busa was and is my first sports bike be safe and your love it

There is an old thread dedicated to just this question. It is good reading.

Go crash your brains out on something smaller, preferably a dirt bike. Learn how to work the controls.

Playing in traffic is dangerous enough, learn how to defend yourself before you try to take on one of the toughest guys on the block.

If you really want a Busa for more than just bragging rights, you'll learn how to ride well first. If not, buy your wife and family a good insurance policy.

Best of luck, and welcome aboard

I struggle think of a worse bike to start on.

Say this out loud and if it sounds sensible go out and buy one.

I think I will start with one of the worlds fastest and most powerful production motorbikes"
