hayabusa for first bike

well.....i appreciate the honesty and the quick responses. But i will be buying a bike in the august or september timeframe. What do i need to do now to get me ready for a "Busa" or the mighty CBR. ONE MORE THING...PEOPLE SAY A BUSA WILL KILL A GUY EASY.....I DON'T SEE HOW IT COULD IF YOUR PROPERLY PROTECTED, OBEYING THE SPEED LIMIT, AND NOT HAVING HEAVY HANDS ON THE THROTTLE, OR THE URGE TO DO STUNTS FOR THAT MATTER. WITH ALL THESE PRECAUTIONS IN MIND...HOW COULD A BIKE KILL YOU???

If you make a 3 second error on a lesser bike, you might be doing 30 to 60 mph.. same error on the busa could have you at 80 to 100 mph... You now have a lot more weight to deal with and I can pretty much promise a smaller, lighter bike is going to slow down A LOT faster and a lot more forgiving of poor judgment calls..

Drop your busa 1 time, costs can easily hit $1000 just for dropping it in a parking lot (and this is not uncommon)

You have already made a choice here would be my guess and so no amount of explanation or dramatic appeal is going to sway you... All i have to say is make sure your ducks are all in a row before riding (insurance, living will etc)

If you can go pass a MSF class with the Busa (and I would bet the price of the class you can not) you might stand a better long term chance of keeping the bike in one piece..

After last season, I am tired of seeing all the "rider down" threads and this year. (and many were far from newbies) but guys that the bike jumped up and bit because as great a bike as it is, it will just as quickly bite you..

Let me just say this, I personally experienced seeing a guy not having any business on a CBR1000 for his first "sports" bike. I even mentioned it to other riders after having ridden with him. He had even ridden cruisers before but not sports bikes, and he was a responsible 40 year old who use to ride bicycles professionally so he had some athleticism on two wheels. He wasn't doing anything crazy, like trying wheelies down the highway, but casually took a turn incorrectly (30-40 mph, didn't go in hot) due to not being experienced with that type of bike and being able to make the necessary adjustments his wheel just went off the edge of the road and he went into some guide wires and he ultimately hit his head on the telephone pole and died. BTW, he was fully protected as could be head to toe.

BusaCruise, whom I ride with on occassion, was right behind him and the guy died in his arms. There's a post on here about it somewhere.

Just saying if you ever get into trouble on a bike you can't fully control and have confidence over it could cost you big and to learn how to ride on the top HP sportbikes of today is crazy IMHO. Personally I went from a 100 to a 250 to 600 before the Busa and I can honestly say that all the mistakes I made (scars to prove it) and experiences I had on those smaller bikes have probably saved my life a couple times on the Busa which I now feel 100% in control of after riding it almost two years.

GOOD LUCK w/ whatever you decide.

why would the msf course cost too much? i thought it was aroudn 250
? I was saying I would bet the price of the course he could not pass it on the Busa... most guys have a handful on the bikes they provide

I had many years of dirtbikes before I ever got near the street... The dirt bike skills are invaluable as it teaches you "instinctive reactions" Most of the close encounters I have had, never left time to think about an "out" I just did it out of reflex reaction..

Is anyone else sick of people asking this question?

MSF + a used 600 something... = a great start. Do that for a year or two and then move to the Busa... But can you survive with a busa as a first bike? Certainly - if you know how to ride a sportbike. It's all about controlling the wrist and the busa is way better behaved than a current 1000. Sportbiking is not dirt biking or cruiser riding. And learning in the middle of traffic - well - you better take everything in MSF literally.

Ride away and pretend no one, can see you - ever. Just get goin' and good luck!!!

I agree with Mr Bogus.... If you are dead set on getting a Busa you might want to make sure you know what your getting into first. The bike is bulky and heavy and has more power than you would think. NOT A BEGINNER BIKE. Make sure you at least take the M.S.F. course. I would also suggest that since this is a first bike for you try to find a friend that has a sport bike maybe a 600cc and try this out first. You might be surprised at how much power that has. If you are smart you will listen to everyone and learn to ride first on a smaller machine and work your way up to the Busa.....

Wearing gear protects you from road rash and will cushion your noggin but it is not a suit of armour nor does it posess magical powers. People get killed wearing gear as often as not, you just have a better chance of surviving a crash with gear....

Good luck........

Here is a rather dated but still very relative thread to people thinking about a Busa as a first bike... Link to thread

Still doubt this advice has saved more than 1 or 2 guys but then again, 1 is enough for me...

im a busa first time owner and it is a lot for a first bike but with patients and restraint its doable but don't get surprise if you come into situations too hot or at the price of tires you'de go through on this bike than from a smaller 600 but your an adult do what you want to do and don't ask permision your gonna do what you want anywase

That, Randy, is exactly what all these new guys need to read. Someone needs to copy and paste or linky it or something everytime someone says those famous "thinking of getting..."

Yea i talked to so many people who want to ride a hyperbike for theyre FIRST (DANGEROUS) street bike i dont even care anymore. Its the same story over and over. All i have to say is sport bikes riding carries a H I G H F A T I L I T Y R A T E!!!

Why would you suit up on the #1 killa as your 1st bike.

If you do the do, please get life insurance for your family if you die/severely injure yourself. Its an ignorant choice to ride such a fast bike with absolutely no exp, atleast do a wise thing by getting ins.
