HID install w/ pics

**** aint got no igniters! Whats an ignitor? The ballast does it all...???

Proof is in da puddin:

ignitor is built into the ballast on the standard ballast kits. The slim kits have a seperate ignitor.

Each their own... I opted for the Keep it Simple and reliable. The clumsy time delay relay fits my needs for that. You can't see it so looks don't count, it's in a pretty sturdy plastic package, just put a little tape over the adjustment hole and it's pretty well sealed for any water, besides it's tucked down in the wiring harness so it's more protected there as well. Nothing to forget, like turn in on or off. I'm confident it will be less maintenance in the long run, how long will the indicator LED last. Heck you already have a relay in there. But that works for me...

I will venture to guess that u dont even need a delay or switch. My navigator has hid's, no delay, no switch. You turn key ON, lights come ON, crank and lights go off, release starter and lights come back on. No timer, no switch.

I wanted the switch so I can black her out if necessary. You know, just in case! LOL

Besides, how hard would it be to replace a $6 switch? The reason for the relays is because the original wiring grounds are thin as hell. By installing relays, you are removing that load from the inadequate factory wiring and placing it on a dedicated 30 amp circuit. I have a degree in computer/electronics and could have built a timer circuit myself but did not see a need for it. To each his own.

BTW, Did not mean to offend anyone regarding the timer. It just looked odd to me in that clear box. If I was producing them, I would bed the whole thing in either urethane compound or epoxy so as to make it weather proof. Just thought it looked funny.

ok so here's the difference and I don't have a real good pic of it but the little black box is the ignitor that runs inline with the slim kit wiring.

FWIW, the delay box/switches primary use on GenI busas is because on most models the bike keeps the headlight on when engine cranks, which can cause the HID to mis-fire, thus requiring a shut down and restart. These bikes aren't like modern cars and even some newer bikes that kill power to the headlight system during engine cranking.

Secondary uses for the switch are of course, the 'black out' or 'sneak in'. LOL

See, maybe that is what I didn't get. I have a 2006 Busa and when cranking, she does shut the headlight off. Thus I saw no need to install a delay. Thanks for the explanation!
